BTS Community Moderator Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Another save last night for Jim Johnson. He's not giving up the closer spot this season.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Another save last night for Jim Johnson. He's not giving up the closer spot this season. How exactly did he get the job? Did Vizcaino just s*** the bed? I'd be all for acquiring a low end closer and sneaking him past the off-season cut if there was a reasonable chance of him keeping the job.

I'd be all for acquiring a low end closer and sneaking him past the off-season cut if there was a reasonable chance of him keeping the job. Vizcaino got hurt, Johnson took the job and played well. Vizcaino is back and not pitching well, so Johnson keeps it. No chance Johnson retains the job into next year though IMO. Purely a save play for contenders this year. Also, he's been traded to njh: my 4 and 5 waiver picks for his two 3s.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 d'Arnaud. Available for pitching that will help me next year I'm struggling to figure out Travis D'arnaud's fantasy appeal at this point. He's 27. In theory, he should be peaking offensively but if this is his offensive peak than he's just not going to provide value in the fake game (real game might be a different story but that's irrelevant).

Yeah I've tried really hard to convince myself to trade for d'Arnaud and just can't find the thought process. I even offered some stuff a couple of months ago that I'm glad was not accepted because old Yadier is simply better on the roster right now.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Looks like I got in on Triggs in both leagues 12 hours before his FG article.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Jim Johnson is a solid back-end save collector in our little racket. Maybe not a reliever you want to roll with every day, but in a tight week where you really need saves, you can bench one of your better holds guys and roll with JJ for the category play. There's definite utility there, I've been abusing him in BORED since he got the job.

I'm not trying to disingenuously torpedo someone else's asset. I still have residual attachment to the guy and my catching isn't great so if I could find the appeal, I might do something. I wish I could see more there than I do.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 24, 2016 Author Posted August 24, 2016 He's fine, I'm just laughing remembering the response I got when I tried to sell him to NJH last year. For others: April 11th, 2015. Me --> I actually have a bonus RP already so I have less than no interest. You'd have to pay me to roster Jim Johnson. Your thoughts? ---End Quote--- You --> I'd be concise: Lol @ BONUS Frieri!

I'll like him more in the offseason I think.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 I'll like him more in the offseason I think. Why?
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 24, 2016 Author Posted August 24, 2016 Why? Well... more wiggle room on the roster; don't have to make room for him. Fresh season would be upcoming for Darno.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Instant Gattisfaction! Welcome home, you one-trick pony.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Instant Gattisfaction! Welcome home, you one-trick pony. Surprised you were the only team in on him. Just hit 20-HR, and that's after missing time and then starting very slow after coming back.

I traded him because he lost C eligibility, but now that he has it back, he's an asset again. He's also been on fire over the last month. Easy keeper for me.

That's huge in a league where legit contenders are starting guys like Nick Hundley and Yadi Molina.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 24, 2016 Author Posted August 24, 2016 Catching this year is AWFUL. The position is essentially flat after the top ~4 names because everybody sucks. I don't remember the position ever being so thin. Even Posey has been mediocre.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Sal Perez' OPS has been in a free fall for almost two months now, he's been killing me at the position.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Dealing him within like 4 hours probably had no impact. He's been shopping Gattis and other pieces for weeks now, IIRC.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 He's been shopping Gattis and other pieces for weeks now, IIRC. Correct. I first posted that I'd like to move him on August 11th. I got zero inquiries.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Mm perhaps, my memory may be altered from the painful dickstomping you're administering. All my ratios this week are pug fugly, it sure isn't a runaway.

TRM Verified Member Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Anyone got any cheap relievers or perhaps a depth SP available?

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Anyone got any cheap relievers or perhaps a depth SP available? Adam Conley and Tony Barnette.
