Fired or better job lined up?

Well Fangraphs probably wasn't paying him very much so.... both?

Posted
Why would they fire him? He did good work.

Isn't he the one that the community hated or is that another guy? I'm not well versed on their writers besides Cameron and Cistulli.

Everyone thought his lists were terrible.

From reading the post, it feels like he decided that the extra exposure wasn't worth all the heat that he and Fangraphs were taking from the larger baseball community, for both the quality of his lists and how Fangraphs handled replacing Kiley. I doubt that Fangraphs leadership stepped in here... the lists were what they wanted and he was open to adapting. I'm interesting in seeing if Fangraphs will engage a wider base in finding a new prospect lead.

When they call him "lead" prospect analyst don't they actually mean "only" prospect analyst? 30 lists with write-ups on pretty much every guy in the system is too much for one guy. What's he getting paid, like 30-40K a year?

No they didn't, and he saw most of the players first hand. What you mean is "he didn't conform to my preconceptions/what every other publication said."

It was refreshing and I loved how he ranked guys where he thought they belonged regardless of what uninformed fans thought about it. I, for one, will miss him. He was awesome.

He pissed off people with his Atlanta list in particular because he completely forgot about Austin Riley. I am pretty sure people grew a liking for him as he went along. I didn't see a single negative post towards him in the comments of his farewell.

A real shame, imo. I hate baseball sometimes. He was far better than a stubborn prick like Keith Law.

It's really crazy how much weight Law's list has. He doesn't see any of these guys enough to scout them properly but he still gives way too much weight to what he sees in these micro samples. Ignoring for a moment everything that's wrong about Law, no one could make that approach work.

GD is not being a mensch, where are the damn PRs.

I did them last week and he got upset. I can do them when I get home, maybe 1:30-1:45?

Doesn't matter to me who does it. I forgot North canned GD, so maybe he doesn't care to do it anymore. Crunch em out if you get home and they haven't been done yet, that would be greatly appreciated.

Idk I did them last week before my Monday class and GD gave me s*** for it so I'm trying not to step on his toes.

Nvm, he's below .450 xW%. Still "Bad."

I'd be doing a bit better with average over hits (I know you will take this as a complaint or slandering of the world's greatest fantasy baseball league, but it isn't) because my hitters are good when they play but I'm not getting enough PT to make headway right now. Hopefully I can get Moose back soon.

You have an interesting team that isn't a collection of shitbags and NAs, that's a good start. There's enough there that if things break right and you draft well and maybe make a win-now trade or two, you could be a playoff contender next year.

Having Winker, Benintendi, Bregman, Bird, Reed, Appel and maybe Hoffman or Zimmer on the team next year will definitely help. Probably will have to make a deal for pitching, though.

Posted
Berrios and Matz is a good start, and Hammel is a solid contributor who could stick around or be traded for good prospects. Super Nintendi should be a nice boost next year and Reed should debut any time now. Lol @ Appel

maybe a little aggressive on Benintendi... guy is still in high A

Nope, just got promoted.

I hate to go full z3r0s but holy f***, Bregman has a 190 wRC+ in AA with a .279 BABIP, lol. I guess he's got some pop after all.

20 HR is probably the upper limit for him, but he looks like he's going to hit for average and walk plenty. Could be the next Zobrist.
