I really don't understand this Pillar leading off pushed ********. I really don't.

 

I mean, his only above average offensive tool is speed, and chances of him having the green light while the big bats hit are not high.

That's why I wanted Revere batting 7th, to utilize his speed last year. He rarely ran.

Pillar seems to be the only want who wants it. The middle of the order hitters want to be middle of the order hitters. It's a baseball culture thing and not really a battle worth fighting.

If his new leg kick adds .030 to his OBP I'd probably be fine with it.

Really? He just gave a soundbite last week saying he doesn't care where he hits. It made sense moving him down and Revere up when Benny was hot and Tulo was cold, but I've never heard him say he wanted to move down into the middle of the order.

Is Gibbons dead set on those four guys hitting #2-5? It just makes such an awkward lineup, with Martin hitting way down in the 7th slot and a largely inferior guy leading off. It's more annoying than anything.

At least platoon them there then. Hopefully Travis can come back soon and supplant Pillar in the undeserved most plate appearances position.

I guess the idea is to not disrupt the middle of the lineup while Travis is out (though that's probably going to be for awhile). This whole belief in fixed lineup spots (and rigid bullpen roles) is all very Cito Gaston like. Gibbons used to run different lineups practically every day in the old days.

Gibbons is at least pretty quick to make changes if something isn't working. Even if he gifts Pillar the leadoff spot it will probably only last for a couple of weeks, BABIP dragon willing.

So not only a picture of a cat's ass, but a picture of a cat head on a human body with their hands shoved down their pants. It's possible someone could get the wrong impression.

Well Travis, Martin, Colabello, and Tulo all project for wOBAs in the .326-.334 range. If Pillar can improve his true talent into that range then maybe it's defensible.
