Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Also, it's gauche to talk down a player you clearly tried to trade for very recently.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Meh, he came up as a starter and pitched over 100 innings 3 times in his minor league career. Why should I be so concerned with a reliever who throws 85-90 IP per year rather than an ostensibly durable starter who throws 180-200 IP? The guy is built like a power forward. He is used exactly how an elite reliever should be used. Used just like Eric Gagne.

He is used exactly how an elite reliever should be used. Reliever abuse typically comes from pitching on back to back days, getting hot multiple times in a game, etc. Stuff like that that impedes the body's recovery process after the stress of pitching. So it's not wholly relevant that he's pitched a lot of innings before as a starter, a role in which usage is highly regulated and recovery is scheduled.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 8, 2015 Author Posted December 8, 2015 Also, it's gauche to talk down a player you clearly tried to trade for very recently. I haven't had any Betances discussions! Ask BTS. I was thinking about offering Gordon but wasn't sure. I figured I'd ask the experts. Unfortunately, none of them have responded...
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Used just like Eric Gagne. All pitchers break. Eric Gagne was a straight-up god, steroids or not.

I figured I'd ask the experts. Unfortunately, none of them have responded... I don't think Gordon fits BTS' needs at all. BTS is retooling on the fly and leaning young with an eye on sustainable competitiveness without selling out for the near future. Carlos Rodon would be a much more desirable asset for a team in his situation.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 8, 2015 Author Posted December 8, 2015 Used just like Eric Gagne. Seriously, how the hell is Gagne not at the top of Betances' "similarity scores" on BR?

The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 All pitchers break. Eric Gagne was a straight-up god, steroids or not. He was. He was also brought up as a starter, so you'd think pitching 80+ innings in relief should be nothing. After 3 years of it he broke though. At the ripe old age of 29.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 True, BTS loves massive 4.6BB/9 walk rates Walks aren't a category. K/BB is a category, and Betances' K/BB is above average. Edit: Oh you mean Rodon. f*** you.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Also, all Muslims are terrorists. Woah there Mr Trump.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Rodon's 1st half BB rate was 5.56, 2nd half was 3.70. He had some early jitters and then really settled in and was a boss down the stretch. 2.1 WAR in 140 IP as a rookie starter is nothing to scoff at.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Woah there Mr Trump. I'm only going to tell you this one more f***ing time: it's WHOA, not woah!

Laika Community Moderator Posted December 8, 2015 Author Posted December 8, 2015 That is spurious conjecture. Nope. "Most alarming was the finding that a pitcher who regularly pitched with his arm fatigued was 36 times as likely to be in the surgery group (odds ratio = 36.18)" http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3435945/

Then again I'm 30 and not a well-conditioned athlete.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Pretty sure I've never been told this. And besides, who has time to sound things out. I feel like sounding it out is how you misspelled it in the first place.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I'd trade one of my OFers in a deal for him. You're one of the few people in the league who rightly see Rodon's upside and have repeatedly tried to buy in before he breaks out. Kudos. I don't really see Adam Jones/Carlos Gomez as a big enough upgrade on Jacoby Ellsbury to do that though.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 If you wanna save your dodgeball career you should probably get some surgery done on that. I actually tore my rotator cuff or popped a capsule or something playing flag football with Nox and Hurl, which nearly ended my dodgeball career. I couldn't sleep on my right shoulder for almost 2 years.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I was looking over projections the other day and couldn't help but notice the similarity between Adam Jones and Mark Trumbo.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I feel like sounding it out is how you misspelled it in the first place. Everytime I see Whoa I imagine a bunch of soldiers yelling it. But I know what they yell is spelt different.

z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Trade Rodon to me Dinger. I've been missing him since I sold in LOD.
