TRM Verified Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 I hadn't considered that. Deal is now off the table. Sorry min, that's what you get for being yella. At least I'm not the flake now.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 FWW I think this is a good non-deal for min. Sure, Correa would be nice this year, but Stanton is going to put up epic slash lines for years and years to come.

It was never even close to being a thing. The MLB equivalent of this conversation is discussing if the Jays not signing Darvish was a mistake.

You offered it, Boxy accepted, and then you tucked your dick in and ran away. I guess you could say that this was... about 6 inches from happening?

TRM Verified Member Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 I just want to say I am officially putting Joe Ross on the block. I have two very strong offers for him that are reasonably close to closing. Ideally, I'd like him to be a part of a package that lands be an impact bat. Please send me offers if you are interested ASAP.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Would have been a pretty good trade for both teams. Boxy would have committed himself to Crawford something he seems more comfortable doing than anyone else and RealMin would have gotten the better player.

Laika Community Moderator Posted August 6, 2015 Author Posted August 6, 2015 His MiLB peripherals were very mediocre though, for a prospect. I don't know if 39 MLB innings is enough for me to move my needle on him. Projections think that he's a league average starter, but with a K/9 that starts with a 6, rather than a 9. IMO his value isn't substantially different from that of, say, Nate Karns.
TRM Verified Member Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Joe Ross's peripherals are out of this world. Nothing better than a good old fashion North prospect hype for your assets value. Laika Community Moderator Posted August 6, 2015 Author Posted August 6, 2015 Luis Severino looks pretty filthy. FeatherD should probably call him up to help cement his playoff position.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Is someone going to move an impact bat to gamble on Ross though? I can't see it.
TRM Verified Member Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 I someone going to move an impact bat to gamble on Ross though? I can't see it. In short, yes.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 In short, yes. I'm looking forward to seeing the return, because I'm not really understanding the hype just yet. Mediocre minor league career with no real prospect hype. I think Kiley McDaniel called him a back end starter in the bigs in the preseason, and I'm not sure anyone was higher on him than that. Then 39 innings later he's returning an impact major league bat? I mean, the numbers are great, but 39 innings. Would be pretty unprecedented for people to buy in this early when it comes to making a legit trade for him.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 This is how elite starting pitchers happen these days though... last preseason, nobody was saying that Keuchel, deGrom, Arrieta, McHugh, etc. were going to be front end starters in the bigs and here we are. Pitch-level stats stabilize very quickly. Joe Ross did have some prospect hype too, and he does throw mid-90s with three legit pitches and decent command. He might be really good. I get that he MIGHT be good, and I can certainly see wanting to get in now, but 'impact bat' sounds like what you'd give for the finished product after a lot more innings of certainty.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Joe Ross is so boring compared to Stanton and Correa. Can we get back to talking about those guys and perhaps someone double dare Min to make the swap?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 I'll give you Richie Shaffer for Joe Ross.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Luis Severino looks pretty filthy. FeatherD should probably call him up to help cement his playoff position. Meh possibly. I hate the idea of burning a keeper spot on him when I can just wait and call him up next year -- but he might force my hand.

On offense he features a leveraged swing with strong bat-to-ball skills and the raw strength and approach to take balls out of the yard to the opposite field. While there's some swing-and-miss in his game he shows strong contact skills and the ability to bring a good majority of his power into games. The bat will play, and while it still requires ample projection the raw ingredients of an average-or-better defender behind the plate are present. His athleticism is apparent in his lateral movement, and his receiving has taken a step forward this year. The total package of a bat-first profile with average defensive chops can play to a Role 6 ceiling if it all comes together, and there's plenty here to suggest an above-average backstop when all is said and done.
