Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 I don't love Pence that much, but I am pretty impressed to discover that he's gone 20/70/70 in 7 straight seasons with wRC+'s in the 120 range.

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Yeah I'm not in love with Pence's skills either but he racks up counting stats and never gets hurt. The needs matched up for me and I thought the value was fair. We have to be constantly adjusting our brains to the run environment. I went into the offseason thinking "I'd love to get a 30 HR, 100 RBI outfielder," but there were only four of those guys in 2014 and I wasn't getting any of them lol. Pence's 20 bombs seem a little meh, but they were good for 17th among outfielders and his 106 runs were good for 2nd. He's a productive, durable player who I'll plug into the lineup in April and forget about.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 I'll never forget what Pence did for me in 2013. He was the sole reason I won a championship. I'll miss you Hunter.

I didn't end up needing it since I swept the hitting, but Cueto (and my other two-starts, Price and Carrasco) had quite the championship week this year: 2-0, 14 K, 1.13/14.00/.207
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 3, 2014 Author Posted October 3, 2014 Alex Gordon or Hunter Pence?
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 Alex Gordon or Hunter Pence? Yeah I was thinking this morning that they're very similar. I'd probably take Pence for the extra R/RBI.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2014 Posted October 3, 2014 They're pretty much interchangeable for fantasy purposes. Pence is a better bet to give you 25/90/90 but Gordon is a bit younger. Overall it's a wash.
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 4, 2014 Author Posted October 4, 2014 People do realize Liriano pitched the second half this year, right? I won't argue that he was s*** the first half, missed time with injury then tried to pitch through it and vomited up a 4.27 FIP/3.73 xFIP over 76.1 IP. Second half healthy = 86 innings of 2.98 FIP/3.11 xFIP. <--THIS is the guy I'm trying to trade! I actually meant to msg you about him a week ago. I guess I didn't.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Pence for me I take Pence as well, not really a toss up for me. His type of consistency is remarkably rare.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Updated my trade block. If you guys are looking to spend picks on some pretty s***** players, I'm your guy! I have a lot of cuts to make and a few guys who are mildly interesting. If Silverdumn could give me back McKinney for lake, that would be swell as well.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Jeff Goldbum in Jurassic Park was the best haha
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Dammit Boxy, what kind of juicy messages are you hoarding that I need to hassle you to clear your PMs every other week? Dinger sends me nudez
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 5, 2014 Author Posted October 5, 2014 Who is supposed to own pick #61?
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 it might be worthwhile setting the sheet up with a =countif formula for each pick and player then conditional format it to change colour if a player or pick appears on the sheet more than once. It would be fairly easy to do and would prevent issues like this from being discovered long after whatever deal moved that asset.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 That would take like 5 minutes, great idea.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Just a heads up i have been getting some offers on Votto. Not saying for sure that i am selling him but there have been some very intriguing offers. Now the next 2 months are going to be very busy for me with my wedding on the 25th and the honeymoon and such in November and work mixed in. Best way to get a hold of me would be to message me on proboards then it comes right to my phone. I rarely notice PM on this board.
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 6, 2014 Author Posted October 6, 2014 (edited) I guess #4 overall in the waiver draft for Rosenthal is fairly interesting. Could be complete shite for Gibbers, or it could end up being a home run. I have no idea how many sexy IFA players there are this year, or unowned relevant MiLB prospects that have touched AA. Haven't done any research. I mean, I'd probably trade a reliever, even with Rosenthal's projections, for someone like Alex Guerrero. Edited October 6, 2014 by Laika
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 The waiver draft is almost always garbage beyond the top 3.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 The waiver draft is almost always garbage beyond the top 3. Maeda, Tomas, Olivera, Kang. 4 guys who could be very useful right there.
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 6, 2014 Author Posted October 6, 2014 The waiver draft is almost always garbage beyond the top 3. What, Eddie Butler doesn't float your boat?
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 The return will be much clearer as the off season unfolds.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 What, Eddie Butler doesn't float your boat? Derek Lowe, best case scenario.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 I dont think there will ever be a waiver draft as good as last year's (Tanaka/Abreu).
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Tomas and Maeda say different? Those guys aren't Tanaka/Abreu though (Cy Young candidate before he got hurt & elite bat in his prime). I don't like the return for GP, although as he says, something could unfold.
