SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 Mid-Season Game: Biggest MLB Surprise: Michael Morse. I drafted him in the initial draft, but traded him away. Traded a pick for him before this season and it has worked out great. Biggest MLB Letdown: Josh Johnson... that bastard. I'm going to have to spin the wheel again, using a 20-man roster spot on him, hoping he can stay healthy next year. Him or Josmil Pinto, but I feel that was more of a playing time issue. Biggest MiLB Surprise: Nobody was a big surprise to me. I guess Polanco being THAT good? Biggest MiLB Letdown: Jon Schoop. I was really hoping he would put it together a bit this year. The O's gave him all the time in the world, but he hasn't capitalized. Morse was such a steal, well played
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 I would have drafted Judge if he was available when my next pick came up. I liked him too. I have been asked about him at least 3 or 4 times in ongoing trade discussions. I believe the Silver Fox asked for him in our Sano/Gallo-Edwin deal. Really excited about him, can't wait til he's hitting bombs off Sanchez
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 Biggest MLB Surprise: Dellin Betances. Giving me #2 SP numbers, just starting to collect holds. Didn't expect anything from him and he's been my best RP. (Honorable mentions: Jose Abreu, Daniel Murphy) Biggest MLB Letdown: Clay Buchholz. He's been absolute s***. Nothing like he pitched like last year. (Honorable mentions: Cliff Lee(DL), Brett Lawrie) Biggest MiLB Surprise: Jesse Hahn. Acquired him last offseason for cheap just to fill out my prospect roster. Pitched good in the minors, pitched even better in the majors over 6 starts. Biggest MiLB Letdown: Mark Appel. He's started off the year bad, got sent to extended spring training, and was bad after returning to A+. Was expecting him to rise through the minors quickly.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 Biggest MLB Surprise: Phil Hughes and Wily Peralta - both have been a huge boost to my rotations thus far, never expected them to have pitched this well to start the year. Especially Hughes with his sick K/BB ratio. Biggest MLB Letdown: Shelby Miller - was hoping he'd take a step forward and be my No. 1 starter (kind of like how Teheran did this season), though hasn't worked out. He's still young and has a great arm, though really was counting on him to be my best pitcher. (Honorable mentions: Mike Minor, Carlos Beltran) Biggest MiLB Surprise: Robbie Ray - looks like he could be called upon again if the Tigers need another starter. Plus he was the big piece in the Fister trade so that tells you something Biggest MiLB Letdown: Travis d'Arnaud - ugh
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 mlb surprise Marlon Byrd has been a great get in the Waiver draft. I think he his OPSing over .800 with 18 bombs. Without him my outfield would be in shambles. mlb bust Nobody that i am really upset over. I would have been expecting a better fate from A.J Burnett. And Aaron Hill and Cain which i dealt off had been absolutely non-existent before getting rid of them. milb surprise J.P Crawford. I know it is early for him but he has had a great season in Low A and now we will see what he can do in High A. Lindor has been outstanding however i kind of expected that out of him milb bust Nobody I can really complain about right now. I was hoping Alfaro would Rip up A+ more then he has but he has not been too bad. Brian Flynn. I DON'T want to talk about it.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 7, 2014 Author Posted July 7, 2014 Looks like I have the best farm out of any 100-win, division leading team! #TopOrg #1Org
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 7, 2014 Author Posted July 7, 2014 A rebuilding team could have Anthony Ranaudo for very little. Ex., we swap 3rd round picks.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 7, 2014 Author Posted July 7, 2014 Biggest surprise: Jake Arrieta Biggest disappointment: Danny Salazar Between these two dick-bags, I probably have the biggest SP disappointment and the biggest SP surprise of 2014. I guess it kind of cancels out. Salazar's peripherals are still pretty f***ing intriguing, and I don't think 80 innings in 2014 is enough to say "hur durr he's too hittable". It might be a small fix that he'll be able to make, and/or he might just be getting stupid unlucky. Biggest MiLB surprise: Stroman, Harvey, Renfroe, Manaea, and Nick Williams haven't really surprised but they've done virtually everything I could have realistically hoped they would this year. Getting Raimel Tapia at the end of the first round this summer was also a nice surprise. Biggest MiLB disappointment: I was bummed when the Yankees gave up on Jose Ramirez as a starting pitcher.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 MLB surprise: Johnny Cueto. I expected him to be a good starting pitcher who chipped in across the board, but I didn't quite expect the ace he's been. The sheer number of innings Cueto has thrown of dominant ratios has been outstanding and a big part of why my starting pitching has been among the the league's top three teams. All of my pitchers save for Homer Bailey (whose peripherals are fine and I still believe in) have been great. MLB disappointment: Brian McCann (and Joe Mauer before him). Neither have done anything this year and it's sure frustrating. I still like McCann long-term though and will likely ride it out. ------ Nothing really to report on the prospect front. I traded just about all my 2013 prospect draftees and cut loose or promoted the rest, keeping top Brewers hitting prospects Tyrone Taylor and Orlando Arcia as they've been hitting at a decent clip relative to their age and are said to be in the ~110-150 range of overall prospects. Then I loaded up with 10 new prospects that I fancy.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 MLB surprise Jon Lester - I acquired him thinking he'd be a solid SP3/4 type and he's been a legit #1, and could hit 6 fWAR this year. MLB disappointment Jedd Gyorko - That sack of s*** was supposed to be my long-term 2B option, and instead tanked my offense for two months before getting injured and ultimately traded for a late 2nd rounder. Honourable mentions: Billy Butler, Mark Trumbo, Wilson Ramos, and Chase Headley have all provided me with sweet dick all. MiLB surprise: Hunter Dozier has established himself as a clear top-100 guy, and could be ready to step in at 3B for KC next year. MiLB disappointment Not really any. Hak-Ju Lee has been bad, but I didn't exactly have high hopes for him anyway.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 MLB Surprise - Evan Gattis I thought El Oso Blanco would be good, but not the beast that he has been. He carried my team for a month. MLB Disappointment - Allen Craig I still expect him to hit for average with an OPS around .800 going forward, but he was a sinkhole in my lineup until I acquired Moss. Honourable mention goes to James Shields, Ian Desmond, and Choo. MiLB Surprise - Marco Gonzales Tore up the minors and still has a bright future as a 3/4. MiLB Disappointment - Miguel Almonte He was okay, but he didn't take the step forward that I expected. Still a borderline Top 50 prospect as per BP.
torontofan Verified Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 MLB surprise Nelson Cruz - He gone! MLB disappointment Ryan Zimmerman - He's been hurt pretty much the whole year. MiLB surprise: Hard to say, Nothing too impressive maybe Courtney Hawkins having a bounce back year. MiLB disappointment Jameson Taillon - TJS hurt his value.
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 If anyone is interested, I am willing to pair Robert Stephenson + Lincecum for an upgraded SP
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 MLB Surprise: Pollock I guess? Ugh MLB bust: I guess Justin Smoak. I had hopes. MiLB surprise: Jose Berrios has been an absolute beast while young for his level. MiLB disappointment: Dom Smith has been pretty s*****.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Interesting trade: Georgia Peach gets Oswaldo Arcia and Soler Gryffindor gets Quintana I think I prefer GP's end of the deal but it's a nice need for need trade between two teams building for the future.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Wow, how did I not realize how good Quintana has been? When I first saw the trade in my email I thought GP destroyed, but it looks pretty even now.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 I've got numbers for top 50 prospects per team. We Krush Dingers - 5 per BP, 6 per BA Gryffindor - 5 on each list Bye Week - 5 per BP, 6 per BA Burrito Boys - 5 per BP, 4 per BA The Butt Stallions - 5 per BP, 3 per BA (insert clever name) - 4 on each list The Lyon Tamer - 4 per BP, 3 per BA The War Puigs - 4 per BP, 2 per BA Jurassic Kats - 3 on each list ISO Horny - 2 on each list Twist and Trout - 2 on each list Georgia Peach - 1 on BP, 4 on BA The True Cardinals - 1 per BP, 2 per BA London Slayers - 1 on each Taijuan On! - 1 on each Triple Hawpe Brewed! - 1 on each 2nd Leg to Stanton - 1 on BP Los Osos Blancos - 1 on BP B. Inge Drinking - 1 on BA BALCO Pharm Team - NONE! Jesse Winker making both lists and after a super slow start in Pensacola, last night brought his wRC+ to 105. Even while struggling, still walked at a 14% rate, as a 20 year old in AA.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 He's a solid dynasty SP3 type. I would expect his HR rate to regress a bit (in the bad direction), bringing his ERA back into the mid-upper 3s.

I would expect his HR rate to regress a bit (in the bad direction), bringing his ERA back into the mid-upper 3s. Looks like closer to a SP 2. Good source of Ks, nice K/BB and I dunno, if he maintains the K rate he could end up with an ERA around 3.30-3.40. I'd pay that price in the BBDL.

I don't really see his K/9 staying above 8 with his below average SwStr and 50 grade fastball, but I also haven't ever watched him pitch so maybe I'm not giving him enough credit. As a win-now team I would do that deal, but long-term, I like Soler as the best asset changing hands here.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Yea I see him as a 2/3 type going forward, which is basically a top 50 pitcher in this league. Even with the HR rate regressing, he should still put up solid ratios across the board over 200 innings or close to it, with double digit win totals. Also free ups a prospect slot to use at the deadline
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 He's probably a safer bet than a lot of sexier names, like Shelby Miller for example.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 He's probably a safer bet than a lot of sexier names, like Shelby Miller for example. Miller is so overrated.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 8, 2014 Author Posted July 8, 2014 Miller is so overrated. He looked like a pretty sexy piece at this point last year. Lots of young arms hit year-long bumps in the road...
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 I felt that pain in PL. His K/BB especially has been awful
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Anyone want Josh Collmenter? I'd move him for any kind of MiLB pick...
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Anyone want Josh Collmenter? I'd move him for any kind of MiLB pick... I'm trying to decide whether Josh Collmenter is bad enough that you should be publicly mocked for shopping him. At the very least you're toeing the line here.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 ERA <4. Most years had a K/9 of 8 or more. Winning record. K/BB rate over 2. He'd be one of the top 5 pitchers on the Waiver Wire.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 I'm trying to decide whether Josh Collmenter is bad enough that you should be publicly mocked for shopping him. At the very least you're toeing the line here. Always err on the side that's most enjoyable
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 9, 2014 Author Posted July 9, 2014 He'd be one of the top 5 pitchers on the Waiver Wire. If he wouldn't be the best, then he's essentially worthless.
