Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 What I am dying to know is what led you to post that imaginary character TWICE 15 minutes apart. My guess is that copious amounts of alkeehal are to blame for your goldfish-esque memory lapse.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 We should vote on pre-season 25-man roster rankings. I'm just too lazy to coordinate it. I'll do this if everyone is willing to provide their rankings for the 20 teams. I don't mind compiling it. I would do MiLB as well but some people may not want to spend the time ranking both. Should we green light this?
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I'm in! One question though. Should we rank the rosters on total value, or based on how good they are at the moment. Obviously they'll have different ranks since some rosters will have young players who won't be great in 2014, but will have a lot of value based on the future.

Just rank them however you want to balance that s*** out.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 (edited) Okay I posted it on the DDL boards. I'll also copy it because some people visit this thread more frequently: Hey guys. BTS proposed the idea to collectively rank all the teams to form some sort of league power rankings. Lets give it a try! Glance over each of your opponents' MLB dynasty rosters and rank them 1-19 from best to worst (don't include your own team in the rankings). The factors you use to determine which 25-man rosters are best are left entirely up to you. When you're happy with your rankings, PM them to me on this message board. I'll then add up all the points (a first place vote = 19, second place vote = 18 etc...) and post the collective rankings in a week or two. I know some people might be too busy to fill out a list, but try and find the time if you can. I'm hoping to get at least 15 lists. The same process applies for MiLB rosters as well. Look at the opposing 19 MiLB farms and rank them 1-19 based on how on you value them (best to worst). Again, I know it's time consuming, but everyone will appreciate it if you can fill a list out. Like I said before, I'll wait a week or two to maximize the number of lists I receive. If I have free time in the next couple weeks, I'll even spice it up a bit. I'll write tiny blurbs highlighting the teams' strong players/prospects, strengths/weaknesses etc. Thank you in advance to everyone who participates in the league power rankings. Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 (edited) Wait I'm thinking we should just exclude ranking our own teams aka ranking the other 19 teams only. Wouldn't that make more sense and remove any bias? EDIT: Okay I edited my previous post to make it 1-19 so we can exclude ranking our own teams. Edited March 8, 2014 by Fearthedoc
TRM Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I honestly, when I first glanced at you saying we were only ranking 1-19, assumed it was because Boxy's team didn't need to be measured and it was foregone conclusion that Boxy would be 20.

Hahaha poor Boxy. At least he likely has a good farm ranking to look forward to.

I want to post all 20 to see if boxy puts himself in front of anyone. I will give everyone a ranking out of 100 35 on hitting, 30 on pitching 20 on youth in majors 15 on farm
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 This will be depressing. You're #1 to me
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 8, 2014 Author Posted March 8, 2014 Tried this for a few minutes but it's pretty f***ing hard to rank the middle of the pack ~10 teams. The worst couple are obvious and I think the order for the top 5 or 6 isn't that hard, but outside of that everyone is similar.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I have Dinger and Boxy ranked. Everything else is a bit more difficult. Boxy doesn't even get the freebie everyone else gets by ranking himself last.
TRM Verified Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 The tricky thing is the open-ended criteria. I'm just ranking in order of my expected finishes for each team this year, but who really knows if that is how everyone would do it. It's totally fair for someone to discount my team, for example, because the pitching staff has an average age of 37.
TRM Verified Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I'm knocking you down a couple of notches because of the age of your team. Still top-6 somewhere though. Yup. Totally fair. For me, I'm just ranking solely on this year. A traditional "power rankings", I suppose.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Im gonna rank teams on how I think they'll do in 2016
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I'm not actually typing out numbers the way hurl is, but I'm doing it somewhat similar. In my head I'm breaking it down to something like 70% weight on right now, with 30% weight on the future. That way I'm mostly focusing on right now, but will also add/subtract value based on youth.
TRM Verified Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Im gonna rank teams on how I think they'll do in 2016 Luckily, Boxy will still be an easy slot-in for 20th!
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Luckily, Boxy will still be an easy slot-in for 20th! 19th. I can't rank myself.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I'm trying to put everyone in tiers. That way I can open 3-4 rosters in tabs, compare them, rank them. Then I close the two higher ranked tabs and bring in two new ones to compare them against etc. Njh is right, the middle ones are tricky.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 19th. I can't rank myself. He's factoring in that we'll be kicking you out of the league by the end of 2015. You can include JFaS in your rankings.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Well I guess I better start a fire sale then... Trade Block Note: Willing to move players for cold hard cash.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Im gonna rank teams on how I think they'll do in 2016 I'm ranking based on how they'll do in 2026. You guys are lucky I can't rank myself.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I'm ranking based on how they'll do in 2026. You guys are lucky I can't rank myself. Fun Fact: Mike Trout will be 34 for the start of the 2026 season.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Fun Fact: Mike Trout will be 34 for the start of the 2026 season. He's getting up there in years. You better trade him now while you can still salvage some value from him.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 He's getting up there in years. You better trade him now while you can still salvage some value from him. I know right? I already tried offering him for Dominic Dune but I was rejected immediately. Maybe I'd have better luck offering him for The Chinese Guy.

Laika Community Moderator Posted March 9, 2014 Author Posted March 9, 2014 How long did the initial DDL MLB Draft take to complete? Pretty much the same length as your typical 20 teamer on Yahoo. We set the clock a little bit longer so I think it took a good 3 hours, maybe 3+.
TRM Verified Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 3 to 3.5 hours if I remember correctly.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Wanted to confirm ow are we handling Diaz? He isn't in the database right now, but when he is, if he starts in the minors is he only draft eligible?
