Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Not a bad idea. I agree that a race to add Edwards the day he comes eligible is a little weak. Why don't you guys just allow people to move guys to the NA/DL slots and continue the draft in the original order until those extra vacancies are full? Then you can do whatever and there won't be a mad dash to add people, etc.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 If you're trading for Abreu's side, no. NO. bad. e: lol poor Boxy, that one did make me laugh though. #19 likes to talk more than anyone else, it seems.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Good for you! Someone took him in the redraft lol. I would never brag about owning Micah Johnson.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 There is no such player as Michal Johnson. There is a Michael Johnson, in the LAD org. However, jaysblue drafted "Michal Johnson from the White Sox," so we can probably assume he meant Micah.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 There's this guy, who jaysblue has: http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=sa599345&position=2B And this guy, who No49 took: http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=sa621496&position=2B Why the hell would I draft Michael Johnson? lol
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I love silver's idea about locking unowned sub-AA players til the June draft. It makes the June draft more significant.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Oh wow. Lol. Well that's unfortunate.

Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Ugh I knew realmin would steal Ellis from me at that pick.
TRM Verified Member Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Can someone please explain to me what the hell is going on? My inebriated state is having trouble comprehending it.
TRM Verified Member Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Ugh I knew realmin would steal Ellis from me at that pick. I'll trade you Ellis for the title? Haha! But seriously, funny you were thinking him and thinking I would take him. I guess it was obvious I needed a catcher though.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 It sucks that there's an org guy named Michael Johnson in the CHW organization, I do think jaysblue intended to draft Micah. I guess it is what it is.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Can someone please explain to me what the hell is going on? My inebriated state is having trouble comprehending it. jaysblue took a player but typod his name and took someone else. North took that guy.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Jaysblue drafted a guy named Michael Johnson. He thought No49 took his player but really N049 drafted Micah Johnson. Actually he drafted "Michal" Johnson, which is neither Michael nor Micah.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Jaysblue drafted a guy named Michael Johnson. He thought No49 took his player but really N049 drafted Micah Johnson. I put down Michal Johnson, spelt his name wrong - meant Micah. Then someone changed it during the draft to Michael Johnson.

Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 If this is what happened you had like 8 months to bring it to people's attention. Pay attention to who you're drafting people. Yeah it would be different if it happened in this draft.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 If this is what happened you had like 8 months to bring it to people's attention. Pay attention to who you're drafting people. Sorry mate. Simple mistake typing his first name wrong, especially when making my selections on my phone since I was up north at the cottage. Also, under the commissioners notes, I think the last names of prospects just appeared, so it had 2B M. Johnson under my team. I didn't realize it in the spreadsheet until now since when I went through the waiver draft results and saw No49 took him. Plus it's hilarious that there's also a Michael Johnson who was in the White Sox organization and that he played 2B as well lol. Just googled that now.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 So proposed new rule; Prospects who finished the year below the AA level (and therefore an not eligible to be added to a MLB roster) and has not reached the MLB may not be added to a teams roster prior to the MiLB draft. This allows people to take Eddie Butler types in the Waiver draft (which I think we want) but avoid a clunky mechanic to determine who gets CJ Edwards types when they are added to the AA roster at the start of the year. This keeps the crop of high minor prospects more attractive for the MiLB draft. Darryl's what do you think? If you like it, do we vote on it?

Laika Community Moderator Posted March 6, 2014 Author Posted March 6, 2014 Not really sure what to do about this Micah Johnson thing. I think it's fairly clear that jaysblue meant to take Micah, but there's no way of knowing that and it really is the same type of goof as Spanky accidentally drafting the wrong Peralta. He said Michal, it was interpreted is Michael (a prospect at the same position in the same org), and he didn't speak up about it until now. Seems like a fairly inconsequential player so I think we'll just step aside and see which one of jaysblue or No49 is the bigger man, and is willing to sacrifice the bum. If No49 gives him up then he can make another rule 5 pick right now.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Neither will be relevant ever so the point is moot Yeah it's unlikely that I own this guy for very long. Had Jaysblue owned 'Micah' he would've been a strong cut candidate for the June draft so it's unlikely much will come of this. It's very strange nonetheless. I read an ESPN article about Micah two days ago, checked if he was unowned, then waited and drafted him. Little did I know there was a secret controversy surrounding him lol. Jaysblue is said to own 'Michael' on Proboards too.

I don't think it should be considered for this season, next year would be fair though. Part of why I traded so many prospects this offseason was my intention to be very active scooping prospects who reach AA for my MLB team. Plus, all of the 2014 MiLB picks have been traded with the current prospect rules in mind; they'd have been traded for more value had people known the prospect pool would include these guys. No 2015 MiLB picks have been yet traded yet (nor do they yet exist) so I think changing next year's rules is fair and would give everyone enough time to adjust.

I don't disagree, but what is the mechanic then? Do you really like the 'race' to be the first guy to pick CJ at an arbitrary time the day of / day after he plays his first AA game?

I really disagree strongly that the potential availability of a guy or two like CJ Edwards would have made people value their draft picks more highly. Actually, I'll go as far as saying that it had no effect at all.
