TRM Verified Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 On a non-draft related note, I'm looking at shopping Howard/Cuddyer. If anyone is interested, lemme know. Not exactly sure what I am looking for. Probably a SP/Closer/Picks/Prospects, or some combination depending on what is being offered. Lemme know if interested.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 I have a rules question: At what point do picks with expired windows expire? I have the 98th pick. How long after my window expiring would I be forced to pick, or else give up the pick entirely? A week?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 If you still haven't made a pick a week after your window expires, you better be in ICU or you're kicked out of the league.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 If you still haven't made a pick a week after your window expires, you better be in ICU or you're kicked out of the league. So it's a judgement call made by the Darrells then, no strict deadline? Not trying to be difficult btw.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 As soon as the last window expires, we'll open up FA, so it's a moot point. If you think you're going to sit on pick 98 for a week while everyone else's rosters are finalized in the hopes of grabbing someone who becomes relevant late in Spring Training, it's not going to happen.

How long after my window expiring would I be forced to pick, or else give up the pick entirely? A week? Specifically because you asked, twenty four hours. Pick 98 will disappear in 24 hours if you haven't picked someone. And as dinger said, moot point. Free agency is open at some time shortly after the last person picks anyway. I'm thinking midnight after the last person makes their waiver pick, everyone can start adding dudes if they want. I might not bother putting every free agent on waivers.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Okay, that makes sense. One more question: What is the definition of "played" as it pertains to a prospect having played at AA or higher (and then becoming eligible for MLB rosters)? Does it apply the second a prospect steps onto a AA or higher field, the second the first pitch is thrown with him in the lineup, or the second the game is over (and the statistics are 'official')?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Yeah, we probably don't need to bother with waivers after the draft. There won't be much to claim, and it would probably only benefit teams with late waiver spots anyway, since teams with higher waiver priority aren't going to use it for what's available.

I actually meant to address this at some point, so thanks for bringing it up. I guess we need an arbitrary rule. Definition of played = he does enough to register 1 in the 'G' column on baseball reference. So getting in as a pinch runner or defensive sub would suffice. If a player gets promoted to AA and does enough to register a game played ('G' on BR), then they can be added as soon as 3 AM on the next calendar day PST. So 6 AM EST on the next calendar day after the day the AA game in which the player played began. These times were picked so that all games would probably be over.

What very specific prospect could you possibly be talking about. I just can't C Just who you could be talking about.

There's actually a whole whack of guys. The first days of the MiLB season will be a frenzy. I actually meant to address this at some point, so thanks for bringing it up. I'm going to have to sync all my clocks to Yahoo time

JFaS, we should add the same to BBDL rules.

I'll be interesting to see how eager people will be to use roster spots on fresh AA guys when they aren't slam dunk top 100 prospect types.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 I'll be interesting to see how eager people will be to use roster spots on fresh AA guys when they aren't slam dunk top 100 prospect types. There aren't many talents that I'd waste a spot on. I'd take a guy like CJ.E, sure, but I'd value an SP7 over most else. But, my NA slot will also likely be filled with Bauer or Bradley Jr., so that factors into it.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Does anyone have an NA spot they expect to be vacant heading into the season? I'm honestly interested.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Does anyone have an NA spot they expect to be vacant heading into the season? I'm honestly interested. Mine will be occupied by future batting champ Tommy "The Star" La Stella until Dan Ugly loses his job.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Does anyone have an NA spot they expect to be vacant heading into the season? I'm honestly interested. I'll pick up an NA guy once the waiver draft ends, but will probably drop him once a better prospect becomes eligible.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Jaysblue picked David Hernandez. Good pick since, 2/10/2014: Hernandez may be a candidate for the closer's role, MLB.com reports. Stupid Arizona, man I hate them! Don't they have Reed lol?
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Would you trade Wily Peralta for Lorenzo Cain in a salary dynasty league?
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Would you trade Wily Peralta for Lorenzo Cain in a salary dynasty league? No. Peralta has more upside. Cain is pretty irrelevant for fantasy.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Don't they have Reed lol? Reed, Putz, Zeigler. I don't understand why they would go with anyone other than Reed though. Makes no sense.
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Reed, Putz, Zeigler. I don't understand why they would go with anyone other than Reed though. Makes no sense. Nothing makes sense in Arizona.

Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Nothing makes sense in Arizona. True they made that clear after their decision with Delgado.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 4, 2014 Author Posted March 4, 2014 He's ineligible to be taken anyway. We were talking about popping prospects during the season as soon as they hit AA
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 We were talking about popping prospects during the season as soon as they hit AA Oh my bad. I should read the whole page before replying.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 4, 2014 Author Posted March 4, 2014 Would you trade Wily Peralta for Lorenzo Cain in a salary dynasty league? I think they both suck, so I would just take whoever fills the bigger hole on your team. With Peralta, I think you get a 4.xx FIP pitcher that, if you're lucky, Lucroy frames into a 4.00 ERA guy with a middling amount of K's, and below average (for fantasy) OBPA and K/BB. You can get similar pitchers on the waiver wire throughout any given season. Lorenzo Cain could go 10/20 with a 100 wRC+ (think .260/.320/.400), but those are mediocre numbers and CF is not thin in fantasy baseball right now. Honestly, I think you can get more for Peralta than Cain, based on the fact that Peralta is young, seems promising, and SP can get pretty thin in deep leagues. I would continue to shop Peralta but look for something a bit better.
