Laika Community Moderator Posted July 31, 2013 Author Posted July 31, 2013 Some enviable young pitching depth in Boston right now. Doubront (MLB; league min) Allen Webster (MLB/AAA) Brandon Workman (MLB; inspired me to post this by going 9:1 on No49 tonight) Matt Barnes (AA) Anthony Ranaudo (bounce back year in AA) Henry Owens (A+)
TRM Verified Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Brandon Workman (MLB; inspired me to post this by going 9:1 on No49 tonight) HAHA. Poor No49. Turned himself into the league villain.
TRM Verified Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 You bastards jinxed me talking about my OF. Rios got hurt. I've hardly had a healthy OF all year, for what it's worth. Holliday, Stanton and now Rios.
torontofan Verified Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Good point, Dinger is out. Torontofan has a similar outfield to yours: Cespedes, Cruz, Aoki, Ross. Cespedes is somewhat of a high-reward wildcard like Hamilton. I tend to think Kemp's poor play this year is shoulder-related, so expect him to return to at least 2009 form next year. Maybe not best-player-in-fantasy, but a multifaceted star in his prime. He's more than three years Hamilton's junior too. I like my outfield and think it is solid, even after trading Kemp. Going to have a bit of drop off with Cruz's upcoming suspension, but I like having Urrutia now too, was happy to grab him with my last pick in the draft.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 who needs a good OF...I've ran with the worst OF in the league all season. I might have some Choo interest, but a temp 1B is my biggest priority right now.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Gomez = Only guy with 15+HR and 25+SB on the year; Last year post allstar break - 14HR, 26SB What, you guys dont think Ibanez is a true talent 40 HR threat going forward? He's probably only a 30+ HR going forward.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Hey guys, Unfortunately, The Dude has abandoned his L1 team. He has not been online since Jun 27 and is not setting lineups. So effective immediately, I am seeking a replacement for him. Here's the deal: - I'm looking for someone from L2 or DDL to take ownerhip of the team and set lineups/make competitive transactions for the rest if the season - If you can guide the team out of relegation, you keep it for next year - If the team still gets relegated, you will be 1st on the shortlist as a replacement GM if a non-promotion spot opens up (always one or two every year) - If I don't have any takers from L2/DDL, other solid bros will be considered as well
TRM Verified Member Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 And first place is mine! (By tiebreaker)
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Prospect blockbuster just went down. Acquired myself another Cuban to go along with Puig so he wouldn't be lonely..

z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 I know I've brought this up before, but a seasons worth of working on both Fantasy sites compels me to raise it again. I think we should have a league poll to switch over to the ESPN site. My primary reason for suggesting a move is mostly aesthetic... the site is just much nicer to look at. Lest you all think I'm vain, I'll follow that up by saying that, there is an increase in functionality that comes with sites that are "prettier". I think the site has a better layout and makes the site more readable. I also like some of the little features such as; - probably pitchers for the day being identified on your team page (so you don't have to go looking for that information, even if its just a click away) - recent player ratings being more available - more attractive AND functional trade block (not pictured below as the trade deadline is over) I've included a few pictures in case anyone is not familiar with the various page layouts. I think we should at least have a vote on it. Thoughts?
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 hmmm... those are really small.... either way, the point stands.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 I can't see moving to ESPN for minor aesthetic reasons. We all have long track records on Yahoo and its nice to keep those archives intact. The only way I would consider moving from Yahoo is if ESPN incorporated a fully integrated keeper/prospect/future pick tracking system that removed a lot of administrative legwork for us.

What archives are we talking about on a first year league (or do you mean personal achieves?). I guess it really depends how minor you think the aesthetic changes are. As someone who is active in leagues on both sites, I can tell you its painful working with Yahoo in comparison.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 I'm talking about your personal performance history and trophy cases, etc. I've used ESPN before and I didn't find it substantially better. I also know for a fact that most GMs in this league are in multiple Yahoo leagues, so moving to ESPN would cause those owners to have to use two interfaces going forward, a major annoyance. I'm in 5 leagues, and I want all my leagues in one dashboard, I dont want to have to use both ESPN AND yahoo, which is what would happen. I don't really think it should be a votable issue as it could cause significant upheaval among the league GMs.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 If there was a vote I would choose Yahoo. Mostly because I have all my other leagues on Yahoo and it's convenient having them all in one spot.

The latter is already covered by Yahoo, on the off chance you didn't know.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Just to clarify, are you referring to the hitter-pitcher matchup, or are you talking about which of your pitchers start on each given day? The latter is already covered by Yahoo, on the off chance you didn't know. Where about? on ESPN there is a little PP (probable pitcher) beside the name of any pitcher (on your roster or FA page) if they are likely to start a given day. I know you can click on your pitcher and see when there next schedule start is on Yahoo... is there an easier way?
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 7, 2013 Author Posted August 7, 2013 The only reason we'd ever switch to ESPN would be if they had a system where we could track all of our prospects and picks, season over season, and essentially consolidate our league home and proboards. Assuming that isn't feasible and it never will be, I just can't see it being worth the hassle of switching over. I'm in my first ESPN league this year, and I don't see it as necessarily better than Yahoo. It has some advantages but also some disadvantages. I really don't like the league home on ESPN, I don't like the DL management process or the trade offering process as much as I do in Yahoo, among other things. It's better than Yahoo as displaying certain information without having to click for it. For example, on your team page, every player has their status, daily pitcher matchup, recent statistics, and research statistics all displayed without having to click anything. In Yahoo you just get status, game time and team matchup (not pitcher), and % started (useless). Much more info at your immediate disposal in ESPN, and that goes for the FA listings too.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 If a pitcher is starting on a given day, a ^ appears next to their name. If you click on the Opponents tab on your My Team page, you can see all your SP ^s for the next 5 days or so.

They're just clunkier than in Yahoo. i.e. Drag and drop DL management is much better than having to click "manage DL" and move stuff around.

A couple things I don't like about ESPN are that the DL management is frustrating and that it doesn't show on your line-up management when players get scratched (as yahoo uses the x or ^). Sometimes they will have it in the player notes that they are out of the line-up today, but lots of times they are not updated in time before the game starts.

torontofan Verified Member Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 No, I played 2 leagues last year and it was somewhat frustrating on occasions. This year I only have a draft and hold league, so don't do line-up management.

torontofan Verified Member Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Has anyone ever played fantasy baseball on FleaFlicker or Fantrax? Was thinking of moving a league with my friends to something new next year, just wondering if anyone has tried either of these sites.
