Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Bruins have something to say about this So does FLA
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 I just want a Leafs vs Rangers Eastern Conference Finals. Please. I have that in a bracket.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Every year I watch about 5 full hockey games and many partials. Then playoffs come and I watch a bunch...and realize it is truly terrible hockey in the playoffs
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Every year I watch about 5 full hockey games and many partials. Then playoffs come and I watch a bunch...and realize it is truly terrible hockey in the playoffs I must say I don't love how the playoffs become a completely different game. I myself prefer the wide open, skill based game that the NHL has developed into. I don't love that they put the whistles away in the playoffs and allow all kinds of penalties to slide. I don't think any other sport seems such a drastic change in their game come payoff time.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 The other thing about NHL Playoffs is how much it slows down the later series. You can tell by the end teams are just exhausted and the games are a lot less thrilling. The first round is usually the most action packed. But yea the entire Season NHL plays open, fast, high skill games. The playoffs become way more physical everything is slowed down and more methodical. Usually the most physical team wins.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 That's what I find odd about the NHL playoffs as well. It basically turns into a different game.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 The playoffs are better though. You guys sound like coping Leafs fans.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 The playoffs are better though. You guys sound like coping Leafs fans. I think it's way better hockey.. Who doesn't like less ref interference and more physical play?
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 The playoffs are better though. You guys sound like coping Leafs fans. Actually disgusted that you just called me a Leafs fan.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 I think it's way better hockey.. Who doesn't like less ref interference and more physical play? It's the grossly inconsistent officiating that infuriates people the most. You want to let everything go? Fine. You want to call everything? Fine. But calling things that aren't penalties and letting things go that are blatant, is a joke. That's the problem. Figure it out NHL.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 The playoffs are better though. You guys sound like coping Leafs fans. I certainly am not that. But I am a very casual fan. There was a point during the Avs and Kraken game where it was so fast and back and forth. I thought "this I like". Then I realized it was 4x4. Shortly after it went back to a stupid scrum every whistle
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 Imagine complaining about playoff hockey... The Bruins were sublime tonight, perfect road game. They're going to be tough to beat.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 Kings win in OT, again. Hmm... or did they? Yup!

What do you expect when the Stanley Cup Finals are being played at the end of June? NHL Playoffs are fun, especially during the first round like you said. You'll definitely have a lot of thrilling games. But yeah, you can tell as you go into the later rounds teams do become exhausted and the games are slower paced. It definitely is more of a physical game.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 You guys, the NHL playoffs are SUPPOSED to be grueling. That's why winning the Stanley Cup has more significance than winning the major trophy in any other major north american team sport. You're missing the point is and just fundamentally not understanding the sport / history of the sport if you think the nature of the games changing as the playoffs go on is a bad thing.

JG34 Verified Member Posted April 23, 2023 Posted April 23, 2023 That’s a game that the Leafs haven’t been able to win in the last few playoffs.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2023 Posted April 23, 2023 Big win for the Leafs. Was watching the game and they definitely pulled out a tough grueling win. Hope they can take care of business in Game 4 and come back to Toronto and clinch in Game 5.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2023 Posted April 23, 2023 The B's got a stranglehold on the series now, as do the Canes as expected.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 Stars tie the series up, Oilers need to do the same tonight. Hmm... or do they, Wild just scored? What a save by Oettinger, just saved their ass!!!
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 (edited) Oilers are in deep s***. Aaand their right back in it. Edited April 24, 2023 by Spanky99
