This thread on twitter, and an "analytics" writer from The Athletic who is arguing that points are a better evaluation method than more advanced stats, have me looking at EvolvingHockey's WAR for the 2019-20 season.

 

Phil Kessel, who is getting paid 8 mil for next 3 seasons, has been the worst forward in the league this year. lol!

 

In a similar trade, PK Subban who is getting paid 9 mil for the next 3 seasons has been the worst dman in the league.

 

Tyler Myers and Jake Gardiner, who both signed long term, 4 to 6 million dollar free agent deals last summer have been below replacement level in the first years of their contracts.

So, I know it's only the ASG and therefore nobody really gives a s***, but apparently Brad Marchand didn't make the team. Holy f***, how does that happen? He's 4 points behind the scoring leader.

Honestly, peak MLB was when some teams were using analytics and others were still using saves and RBIs, and the fans were better at evaluating talent than most FOs.

Kovalchuk signs with the Habs for $700k. It's a 1-year, 2-way deal.

 

Probably one way. If he doesn't make the team he bolts it back to the motherland.

Leafs are hot but can't shake the Bolts who are right behind them and have several games in hand. 6 points back of the Bruins as they're stumbling a bit right now. I'm gonna laugh if they finish 3rd in the division again this season.
