Because there are different reasons why you forge emotional connections with teams. Geographic proximity, so you're familiar with the team and organically get attached? Maybe you've moved and still cheer for the team from the city you started in. Family allegiances...your dad, grandad, cheered for Team X and you grew up with that being the team in your household. Lots of different reasons.

Or there's a player you like on the team, or you gravitate towards a good, well run team.

Spanky said that a new fan should cheer for the Leaves and then said he was joking. I was trying to understand why he thinks the Leaves are a poor choice for a new fan. I mean, I know why but wanted to see his thought process.

For those wondering:

- shittiest dumb poop brained fans in hockey

- only people that go to games are business execs to impress other business execs

- s***** team that never wins anything ever and hasn't since like 1969

- name is grammatically incorrect

- boring uniforms

I'd pick SJ, TB or Boston if I hit my head really hard and started to enjoy hockey.

The Leafs have 3 elite forwards, an elite goalie, and one borderline elite Dman. They are a viable team to cheer for when you strip away bias.

Has Andersen ever even had a top-10 save%?

Don't @ me with fancy fake stats about his save% on shots from 3 feet below the right circle or some s***.

Remember when you said he'd be playing in the AHL, lol???

Yeah, I was wrong. He's a mediocre NHL goalie.

Then batting average and rbi's mean lots too if you don't want analytics.

For those wondering:

- shittiest dumb poop brained fans in hockey every fan base has morons

- only people that go to games are business execs to impress other business execs it's extremely expensive, but demand is demand

- s***** team that never wins anything ever and hasn't since like 1969 '67. But that'll make it that much sweeter. Red Sox and Cubs fans hung in there.

- name is grammatically incorrect Grammar has no place in sports. R's BI.

- boring uniforms Clasically elegant

We all have different criteria.

If he’s so good why does he always lose in the playoffs?

Isn't Save% like using batting average to decide how good a hitter is?

Would Goalie Point Shares be kinda like WAR? Because Anderson lead the league in that stat.

Calculate the shots against adjustment for each goalie. The shots against adjustment is equal to (shots against per minute) / (league shots against per minute). For Hasek this is 0.5092 / 0.4494 = 1.133

Calculate marginal goals against for each goalie. Marginal goals against is equal to (1 + (7 / 12)) × (shots against adjustment) × (minutes played) × (league goals against per minute) - (goals against). For Hasek this is (1 + (7 / 12)) × 1.133 × 4220 × 0.0421 - 147 = 171.71

Calculate marginal goals per point. Marginal goals per point reduces to (league goals) / (league points). For the 1997-98 NHL this is 5624 / 2132 = 2.64.

Credit Goalie Point Shares to the goalies. Goalie Point Shares are credited using the following formula: (2 / 7) × ((marginal goals against) / (marginal goals per point)). Hasek gets credit for (2 / 7) × (171.71 / 2.64) = 18.6 Goalie Point Shares.

Seems like a lotta ******** to me.

Like looking at Wins-Losses for a pitcher. It's a team stat.

It's like saying Kershaw sucks cause he can't get it done in the playoffs.

The whole team needs to show up and do their part. Leafs, as a whole, haven't been good enough in the past couple of Game 7s.

Maybe the leafs need a new core then if their group is too soft to step it up when the going gets tough? Or at least bring in some quality veterans to provide a tough presence and protect the soft stars.

It's a legitimate question. I think it's way too early to make wholesale changes as their core is mostly under 25, but yes, if they don't show some growth soon, they do need to consider moving a key piece out and bringing in some fresh blood. But even before that happens, I think they'd axe Babcock and give another Head Coach a shot with this group first.

Well, this measured response ruins my fun.

So Eugene Melnyk is currently being sued for 900k by a casino who says his bank didn't honour a cheque he cut them, and for 700k by whoever financed his jet because he allegedly hasn't paid his bill. I'm pretty sure he's also still being sued for $1B by John Ruddy and a fighting a 1.55M wrongful dismissal suit from the Sens' former CMO.

Well hopefully he is forced to sell the team. Perhaps the most embarrassing owner in north american professional sports, and one of the saddest franchises.

Just hoping he misses payroll at some point this season. Bettman won't stand for that.

lol... Geez what a huge douchebag... Matthews knows her from working in his building. Toronto sun is already crucifying him, look at the headline on the youtube channel...

HALF-ASSED APOLOGY: Matthews regrets focus is off team

https://torontosun.com/sports/hockey/nhl/toronto-maple-leafs/reaction-to-maple-leafs-star-auston-matthews-disorderly-conduct-charge

News broke Tuesday afternoon that Toronto Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews is facing a disorderly conduct charge in his home state of Arizona after an alleged drunken incident in May.

A female security guard in Scottsdale told police that on May 26, outside Matthews’ condo building, someone tried to open her locked car door. She told cops she jumped out of the vehicle and confronted Matthews and some pals and was told by the Maple Leaf that they thought “it would be funny to see how she would respond.”

She says Matthews then walked away, pulled down his pants, bent over and grabbed his butt cheeks (his underwear stayed up).

None of the allegations have been proven in court. The Leafs released a statement saying Matthews was cooperating with the police.

There has been plenty of reaction on social media, with speculation that the alleged incident could cost Matthews the Leafs captaincy. Some people say it was just a joke, while others say it was sexual harassment. Tells us what you think in the comments below.

He really can't say too much at all. Not sure what kind of apology people are looking for considering the legal aspect of this that's ongoing.

"I'M SO SORRY. YES. I DID IT ALL."
