Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 Freddie Andersen with a 47 save performance. Leafs win 2-1 in shootouts. He stole 2 points for the Leafs tonight.
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 Why does Babcock insist on flanking his franchise player with grinders all the time?
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 Why does Babcock insist on flanking his franchise player with grinders all the time? Seems similar to baseball managers putting s*****/fast players in the leadoff spot Giving playing time out based on talent should be an obvious thing to do...

Meh, he just moves em around, same as he did with Team Canada, but best players(that night) get the ice-time.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 havok has never got that. He's just tinkering as we go, bro.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 Why does Babcock insist on flanking his franchise player with grinders all the time? His theory is that there isn't enough puck to go around for three skill guys on a line. He believes every unit needs a "puck retriever" ie hard worker to do all the little things in order to free up the skill guys to do their thing. Hyman in particular is a guy Babcock has claimed to be one of the league's best forecheckers and retrievers, which is why he sees him as a fit to play with his skill guys.

It isn't all about talent in hockey. You need to have the right mix of skill sets on each line. Pendleton outlined it. You can't have three guys on a line that all like to have the puck. I go agree that Brown and Hyman aren't the right combination, but I also don't think that Matthews, Marner, and Nylander wouldn't be most beneficial either. I think one of those two should replace Brown. And it'll be Nylander. Dudes been struggling, and Babcock wanted to put him on a line that doesn't have the tight defensive matchups all the time to try and open up the ice for him and boost his confidence back up before reuniting him with Matthews.
JG34 Verified Member Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 I'd probably trade Burns for that kid.(Get at me JG34) But I want an elite winger for Scheifele!

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 Blue Jackets win 5-3... Panarin 5 primary assists, impressive.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 Go Leafs Go... win B2B baby! No Matthews, hope that isn't the same injury as earlier.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 McElhinney's standing on his head, so has the Iron, lol.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 Leafs... McElhinney stole 2 points.
JG34 Verified Member Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 Leafs 5-0 without Matthews in the lineup
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 Leafs have been very lucky the last little while. This type of s***** play is going to come back to bite them in the ass.

Are you actually watching the games? Puck possession? Shots on goal? The goalies are not going to continue stopping everything at this rate. C'Mon. You're better than this...

Carrick or anyone on the Marlies is better than that pylon. Once Matthews comes back, just staple Nylander back on his wing and put Hyman in a role more suited to his strengths (3rd line checking with top PK duties). Right now the breakouts are what's really ailing this team. The only way they know how to breakout is ringing the puck on the boards/flipping it out and hoping that they gain possession in the neutral zone. Outside of Rielly, most of the defense has been disappointing. Gardiner and Zaitsev need to step up and play like they're capable of playing. All that being said, it's impressive that they have the record they do despite the fact that they haven't played well at all over the past month worth of games.

Hmm... just checked the League's team corsi and fenwick 5x5... they've dropped considerably over the last 10 games, nothing too drastic but they need to clean it up. All teams go through it, at least we're winning.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 Big Buff week to week, sucks for you Jets fans, and the Nucks lose Baertschi with a broken jaw, this after just losing Horvat, they're f***ed.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Ruh-Roh... no Matthews again tonight. Go Leafs Go!!!
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Another s***** game for the Leafs but goaltending can't bail them out. 4-2 loss.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Kyle Turris on is exit from Ottawa: "It's tough because I think management did want to sign me, but I think that the owner didn't. And that was his decision." I've suspected all along that no effort was even made to keep Turris. This team will remain a dumpster fire until Melnyk sells it.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 There is a rumour around Ottawa that the team is already sold. Franchise needs an overhaul from the top down.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 There is a rumour around Ottawa that the team is already sold. Franchise needs an overhaul from the top down. Saw that. It would be the best thing that could possibly happen. Everything needs to be gutted, from the owner down through the front office.
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Another s***** game for the Leafs but goaltending can't bail them out. 4-2 loss. Babcock can start by not playing that pylon Polak anymore. Then he can move Komarov to the fourth line, and stop handcuffing his best offensive weapons. This team has an abundance of speed and skill, but they've resorted to a a boring and ineffective dump and chase brand of hockey.

Hopefully if it happens he's closer to a Yzerman than a Jeter.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 No Matthews, again. Must be the same injury as before... f***!
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2017 Posted December 15, 2017 Saw that. It would be the best thing that could possibly happen. Everything needs to be gutted, from the owner down through the front office. They should start by moving the team out of Ottawa. I think it might be wise to move the Senators to the Bahamas, a starving hockey market just waiting for a team. Every time I think of Ottawa, Dany Heatley is the first thing that comes to mind.
