It's weird seeing a Game 7 occur the same day as a Game 1 of the next round.

 

That's pretty odd. I always thought they just waited until the first round was done.

Laine's performance in the playoffs is making scouts talk that there's more competition for 1st overall. They say it's still 80% likely to be Matthews, but it wouldn't be outrageous if someone took Laine.

 

There's no competition for #1. It's Matthews all the way.

 

Laine is clearly #2, but any talk about him challenging for #1 is just talk...and it's cause they have nothing to talk about so they're just saying s***.

 

As a Leafs fan, I'd be ecstatic with Top 2. I can live with 3rd...and I'd be heartbroken at #4. Not that I don't think they'll get a solid prospect...it would be just so Leafs.

Leafs are going to pick Tkachuk if at 4. IMO he is the safest bet, has the highest floor. If I had the first pick though I'm probably taking Laine. Size, shot, IQ and the way he dominated the finish league, he is going to be a stud.

Mackenzie came out with his latest mock draft. 2/10 scouts now take Laine, the rest take Mathews. I think Edmonton takes Laine if they cant find a deal beforehand.

Then you draft Matthews and trade a centre for a winger or defenceman. Again, why choose a lesser asset when you can draft a more valuable one.
