If they play like this against Finland, they're toast.

That was ugly. Too cute on the power play. STFP! Goalie wasn't really pulling anything out. I feel for this kids. They lay it all out.

With these tourneys though...you just have to get in and hope you gel/peak like KC in the playoffs (f***ers). We have lost to lesser teams in the final a few times.

No I'm Canadian. Just not a hockey guy

And I'm not a speedskating guy, but I don't find enjoyment in our best Canadian speedskater getting pumped in a high profile tournament. Guess I just don't see what's funny about my country getting beaten.

It's funny because Canada is pretty much the only country that gives two shits about this tournament.

Lol the best part is all of the sponsors on the rink boards are Canadian companies like Tim Hortons, Esso etc.. even when it is in Europe.

If you're talking attendance, then ya...but in terms of the actual tournament itself, and the prestige that is associated with the IIHF World Juniors, that's not even close to being true.

I'm going to assume you're not a hockey fan...otherwise you would've known that.

I definitely used to be. I started the damn thread lol. Lost my excitement.

Also, no, I don't have the 2nd most posts ITT. Many, many posts in here have been deleted by heilO2.

thanks for your undying absence of fact.

world juniors are a big deal in a lot of countries as far as hockey goes. USA doesn't really have a big interest unless they win, but the European countries love the tournament. Swedes, Danes, Fins, Czechs, Russians, Germans, Swiss... show every minute of every game. They show all the build up tournaments as well.

In 2012 it was on the 10th page of the Russian sports page that they lost to Sweden in the Finals. It didn't make the cover in Sweden (albeit there was the Euro draw the same day). This tournament is 90% TSN hype.

define big deal

I have drunk swedish friends that will call in the middle of the night to tell me how sweden kicked Canada's ass- not so bad when the games are on early evening this year, but when they are over at 4am it can be a bit of a bother.

Canada v Sweden had over million people watching on new years eve in a country that only has 9 million people.

why does no one watch the U18? Just as many big name pros played in that?

TSN doesn't make it a giant event.

I'm odd. I lose all Nationalism when it comes to hockey. I did pretty well betting against Canada in hockey in the past.

I completely understand many of my classmates who can name 3rd liners on almost every CHL team loving this tournament, I also can understand people who just love hockey and want to see entertaining hockey as it's that. But I know so many people who never watch junior hockey, and suddenly are repeating Bob McKenzie about the building of the Canada team being an issue, and not leaving their house cause the game is on.

Funny, many of these same people became sudden die hard Jays fans this year too.

u18 gets shown here. They have a tournament for U15 swedish players and under that is on TV every year. every swedish player who has made the nhl has played in that. it's called TV Pucken. Swedes love their hockey.

U20 is interesting because it's the players who have either just been drafted or are becoming draft eligible. It's a fun showcase of players who will be in the NHL soon. The NHL use it for a large part of their international scouting. it's the American Idol of hockey. Instead of traveling to every s*** hole rink you have the best players come to you and try out.
