That really sucks for him, but that was just a freak accident. He already was losing balance and blew a tire, and with his speed, a light obstruction tug by Manning was all it took.

Oh well, guess we can give up our Matthews dream. We all know the Oilers are gonna tumble back down and win the f***ing lottery again.

almost like playing young guys in a man's league, like McDavid and Nugent-Hopkins, exposes them to injury risks.

Damn that sucks. Wonder if he is out for the season. I have tickets to see the Oilers vs Sens in early February so hopefully he would be back by then!

Hard to say if he will be back by then really, I think it took Kane about 12 weeks to come back from his collarbone fracture last year.

McDavid injury is a gut punch for hockey fans. I can't even imagine myself getting back into hockey now for at least a few more months.

Not sure why there's so much Tank talk this year, the benefits of tanking are smaller than ever based on the new draft lottery rules. If the Leafs finish dead last, they do have the best chance of any team to draft Matthews, but they are still most likely to end up drafting 4th.

Not sure if I need to recalculate the odds after each subsequent pick, but to keep things simple:

(1-0.2)*(1-0.135)*(1-0.115) = 61% chance that the last place team drafts 4th.

Am I looking at this wrong? Seems like teams should just play and work hard on developing the players and the system and let the standings fall wherever they may. If they end up being only the 5th worst team or something like that, so be it.

I would like to actually see a live draft lottery show, instead of just coming out with envelopes of where the nhl wants these draft picks given out. And the Last place team still has the best odds of picking 1st overall.

Tanking isn't just about picking first. Would it be nice? Sure....but picking Top 5 is still great.

Seguin was 2nd overall

Price was 5th overall

Malkin was 2nd overall

Kessel was 5th overall

Toews was 3rd overall

Johansen was 4th overall

Backstrom was 4th overall

Hedman was 2nd overall

Do you get stars from the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th rounds? Sure. But the lower you pick...the lower the percentage that you're going to hit. That can't be argued. Tanking is about math...it's about percentages. Putting your team in the best position to get as high a pick as possible and be able to add the best talent available. Yes...there are no absolutes...this argument has been made a thousand times...."LOOK AT THE RED WINGS" Whenever someone brings up the Red Wings, you can name 15 teams who's star players are Top 5 picks.

Give yourself the best chance to add the best talent. It's up to the scouting staff to take advantage of those opportunities.

What is Detroit doing?

Just a hunch, but I think they're closing in on an extension for Abdelkader.

Aren't you a True Red Wings fan?

I don't care nearly enough about hockey to call myself a fan of anyone.

Same. In fact I haven't watched a full game this year. Still trouncing Nick in Nox's league, tho.
