Cap hit doesn't really mean much for Buffalo right now. Since they are under the cap Kane making 3 million instead of 5 doesn't really mean much for them. They get one of the more talented players who is only 23 and still has potential to be better.

 

Cap hit on a long-term commitment will always matter in a league with a cap!

 

This isn't like baseball where straight $/WAR analysis is essentially useless for a team like the Dodgers.

Sure it "matters" but of all the teams in the NHL salary matters the least for Buffalo. Kane will be a UFA by the time most of Buffalo's young players finish their entry level deals. Buffalo is paying guys like Moulson and Gionta just to get above the floor and front loaded their deals to be better trade assets down the line.

 

If Kane was making 7 million for the next 3 years Buffalo would still do this deal because for them its about acquiring the talent.

Seems like 90% of the crap Kane takes is similar to what we saw during Seguin's last season in Boston. How did that turn out?

Kane is garbage man, I watch him every game. He's fast and plays hard, and that's it.

Seguin is a skilled scorer, Kane is not.

I liked Bogo though, I don't know why they couldn't just leave Bogo and Meyers out of it. Don't know enough about Meyers to comment, but seems Buffalo was really high on him.

Myers has devolved from an elegant moose on the ice to just a moose.

 

Kane is absolutely not garbage though, even he does spam the opposing net with crappy wristers. Despite playing with pretty questionable teammates throughout his career, he's driven possession consistently and has scored at a reasonable rate (especially when you consider his puck skills are pretty meh).

 

Seguin > Kane, sure, but Kane is still a top 6 fwd in this league.

I always thought Enroth was a solid goalie, just played for a terrible team. Reminded me of Goldberg from the first mighty ducks movie when they were still district 5.

I'd say yeah he's a decent 2nd liner, but people talk about him like he can be elite. He just doesn't have the hockey sense to become an elite. He has the tools, but won't put it together. I enjoy him as a player because of his passion and heart, but he's nothing special, I have no problem dealing him, nor does 90% of the Jets fan base. In short, he's decent, but greatly over rated. The people that think Buffalo won definitely over rate Kane.

 

Two prospects, Stafford and a first is not a bad return. Sure Stafford wouldn't have cost much, but he can easily take Kane's place down the stretch. Chevy is talking about resigning him long term as well. I think Stafford finishes the year off strong too and becomes a favorite in Winnipeg.

I don't think it'll be as far apart as you think it will be. Plus it was obvious the players were tired of Kane's s***. Stafford will fit in a lot better. I bet Stafford puts up 20+ next year.

The Toronto Maple Leafs tanked even earlier this season and have scared off a lot of viewers. Leafs regional ratings on TSN are averaging 630,000 viewers in Ontario this season -- a drop of 13 per cent from last year. On Sportsnet, Leafs games are averaging 569,000, down 22 per cent from 2013-14. That diminished interest translates into fewer viewers on the early Saturday night game, which then translates into fewer viewers sticking around for the late game.

good. maybe rogers won't take hockey fans for granted for much longer. I love that more people watch the Leafs on TSN than Sportsnet. If viewership continues to go down, maybe the suits will actually give a s*** and fix this f***ing disaster of a franchise.

Report: Shanahan authorized to rebuild Maple Leafs; Kessel, Phaneuf not in plans

Team president Brendan Shanahan, who is believed to endorse the idea of a major overhaul of the roster, received approval from the Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment board to initiate such a process in a recent meeting, according to Cathal Kelly of the Globe and Mail.
