I identify people by their differing skin color all the time, as in " yeah that's person X, the brown guy next to that white girl in the blue shirt." I guess I'm just not an easily offended pussy.

I think its different being in person and saying "the black guy" then putting it in print in the newspaper.

reimer was pretty decent last night

I was impressed with a lot of young Sens forwards. If management was smart they would trade away Greening and let some of those young kids replace him. Lazar and Hoffman are probably better than him anyways.

I can admit it, I bleed Blue and White, hasn't been fun, like the new direction, and will root as I toot, GO LEAFS GO!!

As well, the team is full of SAS.

YES! Can't wait to see Komarov in action during the season. The dude is like a f***ing honeybadger on the fore-check

This is a good thing right? It sure looks good.

SAS is a statistical analysis software that anyone could purchase and use (I use it at school). It is probably the most used software in industry. I doubt the Leafs get any significant advantage from being their official partner though. But yeah, it's definitely not a bad thing, yet at the end of the day it's the personnel doing the studies and modelling that matter.

SAS is essentially far more expensive and less user-friendly software than R.

If Orr or McLaren make the starting roster on opening night, I will refuse to watch.

With the analytics team they hired I doubt they would make that decision. Could maybe see one of them being a guy on the inactive list who they carry and play the odd game here and there but thats it.

R is the bee's knees.

dplyr, tidyr and everything created by Andrew Gelman ftw.

SAS is an expensive s***-stain of a platform that would already be phased out if some large companies weren't so wrongly terrified of things developed in the public domain.

"Dickhead IT Boss: Well, lets see here Bob. R is being rapidly developed and supported by a gigantic community that has the sharpest thinkers in Bayesian Analysis/ML/DM creating extensions for it with supporting peer reviewed academic literature. It's also in a language that will seem pretty familiar for any developers we want to train up on it."

"56 Year Old Middle Manager Bob (wearing a wrinkled Mike Weir golf shirt that's at least 8 years old): All true but I heard it's free. We can't possibly trust something like that can we?"

"Dickhead IT Boss: It is!?! Oh that can't be good. We better stick with SAS. I can't possibly think of a better use for this $10M we pay in licensing anyways. So really, R wouldn't even save us any real $."

"Bob: I think we really dodged a bullet there."

How good do you guys think MacKinnion will be. He showed some Crosby esque flashes last year and trained all summer with him. I think he he will be top 5 , if not this year than next. He and Mcdavid could become the next Sid and Ovi.

top 5 may be a bit ambitious this year in my opinion. would love to see that though, he's an exciting player.

He also has the supporting cast. Duchene O'Reilly Landeskog and Johnson are all impressive. I could see them becoming what Chicago has been the past couple of years.

That's pretty much the argument I've been presented by the higher-ups who support SAS over R. Even though I mostly worked with R (mainly because it's free), they tell me that I have to re-learn a new, more expensive and less user-friendly program in SAS in order for them to accept my analyses. It doesn't help that I've rarely used SAS since it's so expensive. I've even asked them why they don't just save money and use R, and their response is always the stupid, "We just can't trust an open source software that's free!" Honestly, I think the only reasons why they go with SAS over R is because 1) they are delusional into thinking that SAS is a safer program to go with just because its programming is "checked" more often and 2) they have had a long business relationship with SAS & prefer the status quo over change or are currently in a licensing contract with SAS.

Going to need a better coach and management for them to be anywhere close to Chicago. They just signed Brad Stuart for another 2 years today.

Why is he fighting in a pre-season game when we need him to be healthy, ffs

Clarkson has been punched too many times in the head for him to think rationally.
