letsgobjs Verified Member Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 How long of a losing streak would the Leafs have to go on for Nonis to fire Carlyle? You'd have to think 10, 11 games.....right?
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Bozak is playing pretty good..
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 As a jets fan I was never a big fan of Noel, however he is a lot f***ing better than Paul Maurice. I am not a big buff fan he creates way too many turnovers and odd man rushes for the offence that he creates. I was hoping that when they brought the team over they should have blown it up from week one and did their own thing. The only thing to get excited about is Trouba who looks like he can be a stud in this league and Scheifle who looks like he could be a decent 2nd liner. Other than that blow it up. Montoya or back up is way better then our starter Pavs and we are paying him like he is a top 5 goalie. Frustrating time to be a Jets fan. Wish we would have got Phoenix instead lol.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I'm not a fan of Noels overplaying with marginal players (James Wright, Chris Thorburn etc) and his underplaying of young players (Burmi, Peluso etc). His use of Pavelec on back to back nights was straight retarded, when everyone and there mother knew that Pavelec sucks on back to back nights (and every night...). He never held veterans to there mistakes, hence why Byfuglien was out there the shift after giving up bad goals everytime. Pretty much the only thing to look forward to are prospects and the eventual blow up of the current roster. Fun fact: Chevy has yet to make a player for player trade. All trades he has made have been player for draft pick, or draft pick for player. Halfway through season 3 now....yikes Also: lol Lol that's about right. I don't think that Buff should have ever moved to the D but the thing about it is he is a bit of a lazy player and it really shows I really want to see a blow up this trade deadline. Mainly Buff, Wheeler, and Little. I think they would get you a better return. It will be interesting to see how Paul Maurice does in Winnipeg however I am not expecting much. I never noticed that he has never done a player for player deal. Interesting. Hopefully he is very active come trade deadline because they team they have now is not going to do anything. And I hope Wright hits the waiver wire as he is way overplayed and does not provide anything really.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Perfect buy for any other team. Justin Upton style. Byfuglien is apparently a horrible defender, which is why people don't like him at defense (I'm a Canucks fan, so I don't see him very often to weigh in myself). I think his best value might be at forward with the ability to play defense on the PP, or fill in on D if someone goes down with injury during the game or if the team is down and needs some extra scoring punch from the back end.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Heh, it would have been nice to get your original team back. As for Paul Maurice, may God have mercy on your soul. Not just that but I love how that team is built. If they had some money to fill some holes they would be a very very good team. Also Tippett is just a f***ing genius.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2014 Author Posted January 13, 2014 Because of how much it depends on your linemates and competition. Are you gonna detail your process ever? PPP could definitely use a fanshot of this if you ever have some spare time.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 *nerd list* Kunitz, Vlasic, and Hamhuis all in the top 20... one would think that you were a Stevie Y apologist.
Nox Verified Member Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Teasing out the effect of teammates and linemates is a legitimately hard problem. I can't think of any non-bayesian approach that's going to do a respectable job. The analysis I've seen leveraging legit looking hierarchical bayesian models actually highlight some pretty interesting things. (DMen have almost no effect at even strength, thus are being vastly overrated by the market right now). The biggest issue with this stuff though is that you need an ungodly amount of computing power to run the necessary monte carlo sims. (hours per season sim of which there are many in an effective MC)
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 I was at the game and it was probably one of the most fun games I've been to in a while. Spectacular game. Buff looked pretty good upfront the only thing being if he can play with that kind of intensity all the time and not let is laziness come through like in the past.
Nox Verified Member Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 The worst part is that nobody called him out. If somebody made that same post here he'd be labelled a pariah and probably need a new account. You almost need a new account for re-posting something from that board, regardless of context. Sadly though, I get the distinct impression that a good number of NHL GM's don't take years of control into account when making decisions.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 I'm trying to google, but does anyone know the average 5 on 5 time per 60 minutes in the NHL (or where I can find this)? It doesn't help for right now, but it looks like http://www.hockey-reference.com/ is coming soon Stats aren't really populated yet for it.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Just for shits and giggles, I'm going to post a redonkulous ticket I played on Pro-Line.... PHI @ BUF- Tie NJ @ MTL- Tie CGY @ NAS- Tie TOR @ BOS- Visitor NYI @ FLA- Visitor OTT @ MIN- Home 5 dollars pays- 11742.40 Hah....WOOOO!!!! Lol, go Spanky! On the plus side, you probably have significantly better odds of that happening than winning a similar amount in other forms of lottery.

Yea, as far as gambling goes, a feel like there are many, many worse ways to spend $5.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Heh, I put one, instead of won, I'm dumn. yeah your dum
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Anton Stralman = most underrated player in NHL WHO??? seems like the appropriate comment to make here
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Anton Stralman = most underrated player in NHL Or, you know, massively overrated by CORSI.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 I missed the BUDS goal? I'll break it down for you: The puck went into the net.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Possibly, but for two straight seasons? Why not? Even if it's not just luck, there could just be something in his skillset that Corsi crazily overrates. Corsi is basically just the +/- of shot attempts, right?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2014 Author Posted January 15, 2014 WHO??? seems like the appropriate comment to make here He was gonna be the next Bobby Orr when he was coming up with the Leafs. Or, you know, massively overrated by CORSI. Corsi. To be pedantic. GARDY!
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2014 Author Posted January 15, 2014 Okay the Leafs won, but did the refs lose a whistle up their ass? That s*** is inexcusable, it isn't the 80's/90's anymore. #BS That was pretty bad at the end of the game on JVR.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Never thought I'd say this... but man am I glad i picked up Bozak on my fantasy lately.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Leafs beat Boston, start the parade!
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Less than an hour after dealing Devan Dubnyk to Nashville, Edmonton has acquired goalie Ben Scrivens from the Kings for a third-round draft pick.
