bendera3 Verified Member Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 There might be a chance he asked to be dfa if he thought a team would pick him up for a month in the majors instead of going home

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Re Ruiz @ MLBTR: By Steve Adams [september 6 at 10:58am CST] Catching figures to be a major priority for the Phillies this season with Carlos Ruiz eligible for free agency and top catching prospect Tommy Joseph having endured a lost season as a result of concussion issues. However, Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com provides an in-depth look at the Phils' catching depth beyond Joseph, noting that Cameron Rupp has already reached the Majors. Phillies director of player development Joe Jordan tells Salisbury that he's also very excited about 2013 second-rounder Andrew Knapp, and a rival scout familiar with the Phillies' system was particularly enthusiastic about Dominican prospect Deivi Grullon. Here's more on Ruiz and the Phillies... Ruiz would like to return to Philadelphia, writes Salisbury in a separate piece, and the organization has taken note of his recent surge at the plate, with GM Ruben Amaro Jr. stating that Ruiz looks far more relaxed. Pitching coach Rich Dubee, who knows Ruiz quite well, feels that Ruiz is best limited to 100 games behind the plate at this point in his career, however.

Laika Community Moderator Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 Its weird listening to the Boston crew discuss things like WAR and DRS when we have Buck Martinez and f***ing Jeck Morris. Don't worry, Sportsnet has brought in Jesse Litsch to smarten up the broadcast. I like Morris though. Really hoping they cut ties with Tabby and put Morris on TV next year. I can stand Buck and Jack. Although I would make that hope contingent on them bringing in someone for radio, because I can't stand the idea of Wilner sliding into an even bigger radio role. p.s., this is the Fox crew, not the regular NESN Boston crew. Although Dan Orsillo and Jery Remy are fairly excellent.

BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 I can't say I've listened to more than a few hours of Morris, but he's been Sutcliffe/Morgan bad to me. Stuff like saying Buehrle's recent ERA is so low because he's had no run support and is pitching to the score. That's the kind of stuff I expected from Morris, but haven't heard much of it.

Stuff like saying Buehrle's recent ERA is so low because he's had no run support and is pitching to the score. He's pretty good man. Not a genius or anything, but compared to his colleagues he actually seems fairly cerebral, even if he's still waist deep in a lot of old school baseball BS. And he's got a solid voice, which you can't really say for Buck or Tabby. Not sure how they even got into broadcasting in the first place... oh yeah, it's an old boy's club.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 They need to pair Morris up with a sabermetric guy. The contrast between the two should appeal to people on both ends

Yup, and I want to dislike Morris even more because of this stupid HOF push but he's really been a pretty good announcer. He's old school but not really obnoxious about it.
