I think: Brett Lawrie is better hitter than Machado

I think you are very very wrong. Like Lawrie, Machado has shown that he will crush fastballs, however the recognition of the change and willingness to swing for singles (which he happens to get some doubles) it isn't close. Now for the next step, laying off of the curve, which will lead to more walks (generally). I'd say Machado ends up awfully close to a Adrian Beltre type. Of course Lawrie can develop too...but I just see Machado being much better at making adjustments.

I still love Machado, and all things considered, he blows Lawrie out of the water.

I just think his skill set seems particularly prone to the type of year that, say, Starlin Castro is having right now.

I can't really buy into anybody being a true talent +25 run defender, especially after one season. And for every assumed power increase that actually comes true, there are dozens that never come to fruition (ignored silent evidence).

If you want to bet on him being a legit star level player year after year, then you have to buy into a lot of things. You'd be buying into an increase in .ISO, an increase in walk rate, the BABIP being true talent, the quantitative fielding value being true talent, blah blah blah.

On the most recent Fringe Average podcast, Jason Parks said he'd rather have Machado's prime than Trout's or Harper's, which struck me as utter insanity.

Why not? At least Machado has seen/will see the playoff in his prime, unlike Trout and Harper, whose teams are headed for rebuilds.

The Nationals aren't heading for a rebuild....

Machado is the most handsome though.

He prefers "defensive player prime" over "5 tools stud player prime"; it's stupid

CF is also a premium position in the defensive spectrum.

Their teams are completely irrelevant. This was a hypothetical "which talent would you take?" scenario.

I'd go with Harper.

Bryce Harper is decidedly more handsome than Machado.

Dempster suspended 5 games and fined

Girardi also fined

Dempster has been so awful since the AS , thats probably a nice break for the Sox.

If its 5 games, wouldn't that be one start? They should probably skip a few of his starts regardless, and he definitely shouldn't be in the playoff rotation.

Well, d'Arnaud is still looking for a hit--and he's stopped walking as well--2 k's tonight. Perhaps the Braves have watched video on him while he was taking all those walks in San Diego.

He's stopped walking, guys...for one game. Good thing we traded him for Dickey!

You are honestly an extremely stupid human being.

I'm not so sure.

Are we really sure he's/she's/it's human?

If Harper was in an underwear ad, I'm surprised it wasn't for them special Mormon underwear.

Well, Boston continues to screw around--John Farrell wasted his bullpen, letting Brayan Villareal in because they didn't want to use Koji Uehara. Villareal walked in the winning run(Scutaro)--and cost themselves another game. Tampa's now in 1st, and with series against L.A. (Dodgers) and the Orioles coming up, they can't afford to lose these games, especially with Tampa, Cleveland, and NY getting hot.

Thanks to that loss, Boston's lead is down to 5 games on Cleveland, and they're tied with Tampa for 1st in the AL East and the 1st wild card.

Bogaerts went 0-3 BTW..

D'Arnaud first MLB hit, a double

It pleases me greatly that these two posts were 19 minutes apart.

the D in d'Arnaud is not upper case, however, King. Please stop that!
