As for Boston--this is the 2nd time in two weeks Rodney's blown a save(but only his 2nd BS of the season, surprisingly.) Still, the Rays have a shot in the 9th--who's going to close for Boston tonight?

In the second half last year we'd have Scoreboard Watching Threads, it worked out really well.

 

If there's interest (15+ posts per night), we could have one daily, or go with one for the whole season.

 

I'd go for the whole season. Don't want to have a ton of those cluttering the board. I like the idea, though.

MLB hoping for large replay expansion in 2014

 

NEW YORK (AP) -- Major League Baseball hopes to expand video review by umpires for the 2014 season and says all calls other than balls and strikes could be subject to instant replay.

 

Commissioner Bud Selig and MLB executive vice president Joe Torre say they still can't commit to expanded replay for next year. Torre hopes to have proposals by the August owners' meeting.

 

Replay has been in place for potential home run calls since August 2008. Selig initially wanted to add trap plays and fair/foul calls down the lines, but Torre said a far larger expansion is possible.

 

Selig and Torre spoke Thursday after a quarterly owners' meeting. Torre made his presentation to owners following two high-profile mistakes by umpires last week.

 

Says Torre: ''Have we had a bad week or so? Yeah.''

I can see balls and strikes being a bit tedious, but I'd like to see something along the lines of an NFL instant replay policy adopted.

 

Where manages get 2 or 3 challenges per game and maybe have to sacrifice an out or something if the call is not overturned. I hate seeing 1 run games in the ninth where a team has 2 runners on and the ump makes a bad call to end an at bat. Or a check swing call goes the same way and helps end the game. I know I said balls and strikes might be tedious, but I think if they just limited the challenges it would be ok. How many times have we even seen a guy score at home and an ump make a horrific call that changes the outcome of a game? Guys not even getting tagged at home plate and the ump makes an out call, completely changing momentum of the game. I don't think it's just me, I've been watching this game for 3 decades, but the umpires are getting worse and worse all the time.

 

Worse yet, they are becoming uber aggressive when confronted. I think there needs to be an avenue to show these f***ing idiots that they're not right all the time. Close games in the ninth are being decided so many times by bad f***ing calls and something needs to be done about it. About the only penalty I can think of for a bad challenge would be an out, which would definately make things more interesting for managers who decide to challenge a call in the ninth when they are down, but maybe that's what is needed so that teams aren't challenging every debateable call.

xFIP normalizes the HR/FB to league average and Cingrani, if he'd get luckier with the balls flying out, would have a lower ERA

Mike Leake's been pitching well too, you can only have five guys in your rotation.

 

Like Angrioter said, Cingrani has a lot of stuff to work on. He's been succeeding but needs to make adjustments for long-term success.

 

Leake would be a nice trade chip to fill a hole.

 

It's amazing, CIN has all this depth, and none of them ever get f***ing injured. We have 0 depth, and all the injuries.

The Reds are built on young pitchers who have little injury history: Cueto, Bailey, Leake, Latos. And Arroyo never gets hurt.

 

The Reds have identified that young pitchers who don't get hurt will likely continue to not get hurt. JJ and Morrow do get hurt, and Dickey, Buehrle, and Happ are old. It's not all bad luck.

 

Mike Leake's okay, but I doubt he brings that much in return. He's valuable to them, having an extra starter in a good thing and their team doesn't have any holes anyway.

 

Happ isn't old lol. But agreed on other points. Just don't like seeing such a good young starter demoted.

Anyone watching the Orioles Rays game? I'm pretty sure Molina just hit it out and the umps reviewed and called it a double. The ball landed on top of the wall, and in Camden Yards there is a wall of concrete right behind the wall. It appeared to make contact with the concrete, which would mean it was a home run. The ball bounced back into the field.

 

Oh for the love of f***, not this again. Stupid umps.
