Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 thanks for posting this site on the old site. ive been reading but not posting on the old site for about 5 years and it was a mess there and going downhill every day. whats the deal with swearing though, is it a semi-free for all like drunk jays fans or is that cause for castration in these parts? keep in mind that swearing keeps the blood pressure down so for health and safety reasons we should consider that.....just sayin. thanks on the troll site you couldn't even say lmao or gay
IBTrini Verified Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 ...Also, feel free to use this post for suggestions. I want people to feel 'at home'. As s***** as the old board's layout was, it was something we all got used. Some people hate change, but some people also liked the simplicity of it. So I think we need to find a balance... The old board had an "Unread To Me" option which I have not been able to find here as yet. To me, this was a great feature cuz I did not participate in all the threads and neither did I keep track of the ones I posted in so it was a really simple yet effective way to follow-up on such activity. Can this feature be made available here? Thanks.
IBTrini Verified Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Agreed on both. Signatures are just a pain in the ass, and let's get cracking on the troll-smashing. You can disable seeing signatures and avatars for a cleaner look - Go to "Settings", "General Settings", scroll down to the "Thread Display Options" section and remove the check-marks in the "Visible Post Elements". Hope that helps.

Buggs Verified Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I'm in! But I do have one question! Why do I see High85 posting here?? isn't he one of the reasons for the move??
admin Site Manager Posted May 7, 2013 Author Posted May 7, 2013 Don't think that's him. Why he chose that name, I don't know. But he isn't posting like an idiot yet. I've banned two other high accounts so far.
IBTrini Verified Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 There is a legend that shows you how the forum topics work: I was aware of those options however it did not convey the same idea unless "Hot Thread With Unread Posts" is equivalent to "Unread To Me". Is it? By the way, did you ever use the "Unread To Me" feature on the other board?
IBTrini Verified Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I'm not sure he knows what you mean. Something like this would be nice though, but I'm on here enough I wouldn't use it. Thanks for the clarification. Sometimes I may miss a day or two so when I do come back I am definitely not going to wade through a mountain of posts to see if someone responded to or asked for clarification on a point I made. With that particular feature all I had to do was to click on it and only those posts, where someone did respond, would appear.

Hard to say, I can take a look. But realy, unless you're quoted, you wouldn't know if someone was replying to you or just adding a reply, if you know what I mean.

Laika Community Moderator Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 RE: "Contracts and Payroll" section - it's nice but I would we wary of posting proprietary information like this in such an obvious way. Wouldn't want Cots / BP sending you angry emails, or threatening litigation even.
admin Site Manager Posted May 7, 2013 Author Posted May 7, 2013 I gave them credit at the bottom. It is not propietary information either, it is public information. It's no different then me listing the batting averages of our team. If anything they'll receive more traffic from this. Actually, I just noticed they don't even have copyright info anywhere on their site. You can't even technically copyright numbers anyways, so it wouldn't matter too much, more so word for word copying of their articles.

It looks like BP tends to allow for non-commercial use of their data as long as you provide credit, so I think he's probably okay on this. I'm not a big fan of embedded excel files on a web page though.

admin Site Manager Posted May 7, 2013 Author Posted May 7, 2013 Whatever happened to that "landingdoc", think that was his name. He used to be one of the most active members and always posting stuff as soon as it was released (sometimes too much). Did he change his name or is he gone?

I vaguely remember him, I have no clue what happened, he just kinda stopped suddenly.
admin Site Manager Posted May 7, 2013 Author Posted May 7, 2013 How long ago did he leave? About same time most of us slowly stopped?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 How long ago did he leave? About same time most of us slowly stopped? No, I think around October.

LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 just wanna thank whoever started this movement and went along and proceeded with creating this new board. For years it was so hard to read the last board, and finally we have something we can take seriously. Well done guys, looking forward to it
Woodbear Verified Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I have a question that might have been answered already - please be patient with me. I'm a super long time reader of te old forum, visiting every day that I have net access. You needn't go into technical detail, but how do you intend to keep all the worst offenders from joining here? Maybe they just tone it down a bit and get tolerated? Also, what is to prevent multiple accounts like what dragged down the other site? Can't wait to read more informed baseball discussions. Only wish I knew some advanced stats better. I just take poster's words. I won't contribute much, seeing most of my likes/dislikes of players and ability are based anecdotally through limited observation and I am often (I admit) driven to liking players for past performance or a great season. Ex: Lind is now done, but it took me a very long time to reach that conclusion. Thanks for the new forum.

Everyone is welcome but if obvious trolls start popping up they will be banned. The difference between this forum and the old one is that we have active moderators, whereas the old forum's moderator was not active at all and didn't really do anything to keep the board clean.

My biggest tool will be rapid deletion of garbage threads. That was the biggest problem on the old board. They'll get the message and hopefully stay away or stick around and try to participate in a more meaningful way.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I am absolutely floored by some of these post counts. Within a month of the board opening we're going to have multiple 1K+ posters, and GordieDougie at 5K+. I'm on pace for 1300 this week, so that's quite possibly a conservative estimate. All my tests were taken today, too, so I have a lot less studying to do (somehow I think I did well). I may even post more lol.

Chappy Community Moderator Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Novelty will wear off a bit. Unless Jays go on a tear, than I think it will increase lol. I think the new forum will rejuvenate interest amongst other posters who haven't posted much in the last few months due to the trolling. Still some regulars who are MIA right now, so it could still pickup a bit.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 A continued influx of new members can counteract that. Its crazy though - I'm sure you never expected 6K posts in 3 days. Yup, there are still new members joining as they find out about the forum.
