But after two seasons with the Reds, he was unemployed in mid-January this year when he decided to hold a workout near his home in Lake Mary, Fla., a little north of Orlando. He told Nacario, his agent, to invite 29 teams. (The Rockies, Hoffman’s team for six years while his career languished, were excluded.)
