Yes every game against a bad team is winnable. But you don't win them all, that's not the way it works, bad teams beat good teams all the time. The Dodgers recently got swept by the Pirates in LA. A group of hitters that hit .300 aren't going to go a combined 6 for 20 every single game. Sometimes they'll go 6/20 and win. Sometimes they'll go 10/20 win by a lot, and it'll be balanced out by games where they go a combined 2/20 and they'll probably lose that one it happens. You're allowed to be frustrated, it is annoying in the moment, but it'll happen probably 20 or 30 times over a season so you should probably let it go quickly if you can. You're going to be very miserable if you let it annoy you for multiple days afterwards. By the time you finally get over it it'll happen again.

The Jays record against bad teams is one of the best in the league. Sadly we've played fewer of those games than anyone else has and about half as many as Houston has somehow. Houston has played 15 games against teams better than .500. Almost half of those were against us.

You don't use your 2nd or 3rd best pen arm when you're losing in the 5th inning. Assuming he pitches a scoreless inning now what? You're going to have to use the lesser arms anyway. Use them first while losing, if you get to the late game and it makes sense to use a Cimber, Mayza, or Romano do it then rather than burn your best arms for it not to matter anyway. That's not to say they should have used Richards. But when you've got 5 innings left to go and you're behind the best reliever you should be using is your 5th best one. I guess that's Phelps? If everything goes perfectly and you take the lead then you go Garcia, Mayza, Cimber and Romano for the last 4.

Moreno caught Stripling's side session yesterday. I expect he'll be plugged straight into Jansen's role catching Gausman, Stripling, and Kikuchi. Kirk catches Berrios and Manoah and likely DH's 2 of the other 3 games. That leaves 3 DH days which I assume will be 1 Springer, 1 Vladdy, and 1 to rotate. All that to say I expect Moreno catches again tomorrow, Kirk DH's. Knowing Charlie someone like Gurriel will sit to get Tapia in there again.

Tiedemann 5 IP, 9 K, 1 BB, 3 hits, 0 runs Thews 84 pitches which is 8 more than the 1 start they pulled him due to pitch count which is interesting

Through 3 innings and 2 batters he was 3.1 IP, 5 K, 2 BB, 2 hits, 1 run. Then perhaps ran out of gas against the final 4 batters. Young pitcher running out of gas late in an outing making the line look worse that he probably pitched is completely acceptable IMO. Most of the outing was strong. Stamina will come but it's not a priority right now. Way more ideal doing it that way than consistently giving up a walk, hit and run every inning where you're just bad rather than having a reason for the marginal line.

Kirk sat last game, and there was a day off. Clearly they have a plan for him to catch Berrios tomorrow for a while now. Assuming it's not Collins that's going down then if you're not planning on starting Moreno keep the extra player on the roster until you plan to start Moreno(likely Saturday with Kirk DHing) and Collins can backup. If it was Collins going back down then I'd just make the move now. Have we had any news on Vasquez? That looked bad enough for an IL stint. I was thinking that might be the move but then remember Mayza might be back for a reciprocal move there.

Tanner Morris promoted to AAA

Service time isn't really an issue. We have him for this year and 6 more regardless if he comes up now or starts next year with the Jays or anytime inbetween. The only way they get an extra year is if he stays in AAA until 2 weeks into next season and doesn't perform well enough to get a full year credit under the new CBA rules. IIRC that's top 3 in rookie of the year voting gets the full year? Even super 2 shouldn't be an issue. If he came up now and stayed up I think he would probably qualify as a super 2, but up for 2 weeks, go back down come back in September or whenever wouldn't make him a super 2. I'm more concerned about Collins defense TBH. If Kirk starts 4 out of every 5 games at catcher than great. I can stomach Collins for 1 start per 5 games. I feel like he'll be starting 2 or 3 of them to keep Kirk fresh(DHing). Even if he doesn't hit all that well Moreno with a 75 wRC+ I feel like is easily better than the median result you get out of Collins who will likely have bad defense and you just hope he can get hot with the bat. Of course Moreno could be much worse than that as well. It's not some awful decision. I can see the other side of it for sure. Just saying I'm leaning towards getting a look at Gabby.

If everyone stayed healthy I expected he would have stayed in AAA the whole year given the 2 guys we had, the position he plays, and his results so far. When Jansen got hurt in April it was clearly too early developmentally. I think he's been there long enough with good enough results that you should be ok bringing him up for 2 weeks as an injury fill in as long as he continues to play(I would just plug him straight into Jansen's role) assuming you believe he's the best option for a contending team. I think he's a better option than Collins. I'm not suggesting he come up for good. Barring him blowing the cover off the ball for 2 weeks I'd just send him back down when Jansen was healthy. The Jays might have a different approach with the plan that when he comes up here's here for good, they don't want to demote him again, and they don't think he's learned everything he has to learn in AAA yet. The last part I absolutely agree with. I just think a contending team should be using their best option as an injury fill in as long as it doesn't disrupt development. I don't think playing for 2 weeks in the majors on a Jansen type catching rotation(3 of 5 games) and then going back down disrupts development.

But if Charlie does that we lose the DH, and no big deal in a 8-0 game. But then Charlie uses that as an excuse never to DH the backup catcher for the rest of the season. Jansen took one for the team really. Kirk probably owes him dinner.

I guess there's some reluctance to call up Moreno and then send him back down when Jansen is healthy? I think he's our best option now, and though he could definitely use more time in AAA, perhaps even the entire year you need to bring up the guy who will help the team the most. If it was Kirk who got hurt I think you could call up Collins and just have him catch once every 5 games and that's it. I get the feeling they want to cap Kirk's catching days to 3 per 5 games. You want someone who's a little better defensively if they're starting twice everytime through the rotation. I would have called up Gabby and gave him the Jansen games(3/5 catching) and unless he completely dominated just sent him back down once Jansen was healthy but that's obviously not the plan.

Jansen injured, No Moreno

Worth noting that Juenger pitched just 1 inning in relief after pitching multiple innings in every other outing this year, all but 1 as a starter. Was thought to be a pen option when drafted. Wonder if they're going back to that with a thought that he might impact the Jays pen this season.

I know it's not perfect but according to Baseball Trade Values those 3 Royals have a combined median value of 43 million surplus. Roughly equivalent to Jansen, Groshans, and Jimenez(43.1 million). Just trying to gauge an estimate. I wouldn't do that trade.

Jays fans can breath a sigh of relief. A rainout yesterday lead us to realize he can pitch on Saturdays as well 5 IP, 6 K, 3 hits, 0 BB, 1 unearned run. The unearned run was the only baserunner that inning.

Apparently Jansen, Teo, and Vlad were all experiencing minor nagging things they wanted them all to be off to male sure it didn't turn into something more. Vladdy pinch hit for the DH, got an intentional walk so basically didn't play. Teo did play a couple innings. Jansen apparently wasn't availabvle at all. In that case the choice was Tapia or Zimmer playing. My issue with that is if Tapia's playing he should be in the field. Gurriel could have DH'd instead. Had they done that them maybe they don't need to give Gurriel a full day off yesterday on a day where Springer is also out with an illness. They seem to get locked into their scheduled DH and off days. Something came up that forced Tapia into the lineup. Rather than adjusting Gurriel's scheduled off day to DH day and make it a couple days earlier they just DH'd Tapia, then Springer got sick and was also out on Gurriel's scheduled off day and we ended up with 2 gross lineups instead of 1. Luckily we won both games anyway so it didn't end up mattering but a little more flexibility can improve the lineup during they schedule DH and off days while getting them in there anyway. Is that a Charlie thing or a management thing? I have no idea. I suspect management has their hands on getting these guys off days. Does Charlie have the ability to be flexible with when they happen? They said in the pre game today that Chapman's scheduled off day was later but they moved it up to today because of the HBP yesterday. So at least there's some flexibility there I guess.

Does anyone have the BA list? I'm kind of curious how many 2021 draft picks are ahead of Tiedemann. Was looking at the MLB list last night and was caught off guard by Benny Montgomery the 8th overall pick not being there but Tiedemann was. Would he literally be a top 10 pick in a redraft?

2 game of both Kirk and Jansen being in there back to back and 7 wins might do that to you. Just wait until Jansen plays 3 of the next 6 games and Kirk only plays 4 of them while Tapia plays 5, Biggio 4 and Zimmer 2 and the tune will change. Or maybe we'll win all 6 and it won't matter.
