  1. Planning your current moves for potential future free agents isn't a good approach imo. If there are players you like and you can flex some of the muscle you've been raving about all offseason then go do it. If you can't then sure, we have no choice but to wait. Don't be like the Raptors with Giannis or the Knicks every offseason planning for things that can change on a dime. Especially considering you aren't even a lock for getting anyone.
  2. Of course lol. I just meant the comment as a jab as to why no major free agents have signed. We are showing ourselves as a main option for most of these guys and they're still hoping the hot girl shows up.
  3. If the major free agents really wanted to be in Toronto, I'm sure they would have already signed here by now. We're the ugly girl that no one wants to take home until the lights turn on and you say f*** it lol.
  4. That's huge for the Padres. If you could, you'd love to have 4 SS's playing all 4 infield positions.
  5. The positive spin is that this means we're still in on the better players with one less rival. We already have Biggio and Bo for 2 Infield spots so there's only space for 1 more infielder this offseason. I will only be disappointment by this if we strike out completely on DJL or Lindor. To be honest, my hearts already set on one of them.
  6. How many guys can the Padres keep trading for? Do they have an unlimited supply of prospects? P.S. I love that there's a separate thread for this. It gets hard to monitor all the information being thrown into 2 or 3 big threads.
  7. There are like 3 threads where everyone talks about the same thing almost... this happens a lot lol.
  8. You'd have to think free agent signings would have to happen before this date since we're a major player in the market. If we end up with Kim, it will clearly have implications as to who we'd go after.
  9. I haven't seen enough of DJL at 3rd to comment on whether he can be gold glove calibre there too. If not, id hope we get a SS and move Bo to 3B because Biggio there full time is a disaster imo. That would mean Biggio to the Corner OF or back to the Zobrist role.
  10. DJL would play 3rd with Biggio at 2nd if we got him no? I don't want to see Biggio at 3rd in anyway unless its for emergency purposes.
  11. Sign me up for "Buy Bauer and get 2 pitchers free deal" lol
  12. I feel Springer is the domino that would make the Lindor acquisition easier so for that reason, he's the one I want. I've ranted about upgrading our CF and SS defense all offseason and these two make that happen, not to mention they'll bat in the top 3rd of the order. I wonder how a poll would turn out if we had to pick one of Springer, Bauer, Realmuto and DJL at their projected contracts.
  13. Pretty much this. When Springer does fall off, he can move to a corner OF position to finish out the contract.
  14. Its been 2 friggin months of me checking this forum daily hoping something meaningful breaks. Somebody sign already for f***s sake lol.
  15. Was just responding to the posts about people using his speed and thinking he should be signed to be our CFer. Seems a bit far fetched and something I could see the Jays doing a few years ago. We are trying to take huge steps forward in the next year or two and I'd prefer not to make questionable moves like that. Rather we just try to address our known gaps or hold off on making the moves that may restrain us in the future.
  16. A lot of debate about someone who most have never seen play lol. Speed isn't the only skill you need to be an elite CFer. Maybe his instincts to catching fly balls suck or his arm at a distance isn't as accurate. So many factors to consider that most probably don't even know can work. I dont think you can sign a guy to an alternative position without being certain of it.
  17. I would say the team needs pitching AND defense. A lot of those players who helped our offense also weren't good defenders at their positions so it was a tradeoff. Thats why it would be great having 2 way players in Springer, Lindor, DJL, etc. Not only do Springer and Lindor upgrade our defense at premium positions, they also allow upgrades for the positions that Bo and Grichuk would move to. So in theory, we would be upgrading 4 defensive positions with 2 acquisitions. Id consider this a priority too, along with the pitching.
  18. Not a CM fan at all but what about all the Spanish speaking free agents where he can speak his native language? Can't be totally bad there lol
  19. I agree with all your moves but would replace Kim with trading for Lindor lol. It would probably only cost about 10 million more per season than signing Kim since we would also be sending out some sort of contracts too in a trade. Obviously that would hurt our prospect capital but its worth it. All that would cost around 70 million which is asking for a lot in one offseason so its probably wishful thinking. Side note... Feel like we've all been regurgitating the same stuff for over a month now. People already complain about baseball being slow on the field, why do they need to have offseasons like that too lol.
  20. I think we'll be counting on 2 of them as our 4 and 5 starters. The odd man out goes to the bullpen to be our long guy/6th starter
  21. Oh I totally agree but we're already paying Roark 12 million so we're stuck there. I'd bank on Stripling more but we have to hope one of them has a bounce back year. I believe both will be in a contract year so there's always a chance.
  22. I see us only going after one more legitimate starter unless we have plans to make a trade. Feel the rotation is set otherwise. 1/2 Ryu and ? 3 Pearson 4 Ray 5 Stripling/Roark (whoever has the better spring takes the spot)
  23. Jeff Passan on Tim and Sid said that he would pick the Jays landing Springer. There is enough mutual interest on both sides to make it happen. Just need to avoid a team coming in and offering enough to change things.
  24. He seems like the best fit at CF if Springer doesn't come here. His defense would be huge, basically making him a slightly better Pillar for us across the board. Although signing him pushes out one of our current OFs. Feel like this move only happens with a follow up trade (Lindor?).
