I love baseball but the sport does a horrible job marketing it superstars. Most people wouldn't know if they walked by Mike Trout, which is INSANE. Although it doesn't help that a quarter of its stars don't speak English lol. Also doesn't help that the game itself is slow, along with its offseasons. Their draft is a joke as it may take 4 years to even see the players mentioned here in the Majors. Then there are many unnecessary complicated aspects like the Rule 4 draft/international spending/posting periods. Oh and all the old heads who refuse to want to change the game in any way because of its "purity." If i didn't grow up watching/playing the sport, there is 0 chance I'd be following it now. Everyone I know makes fun of me for it but the love is too deep lol.

Trying to be cost effective will do that to you. You can take Shatkins out of Cleveland but you can't take the Cleveland out of Shatkins... *now that all changes if we get Springer lol

We have Stripling battling for the 5th spot too. Looks like we are hoping 2 of Ray, Stripling, Chatwood and Roark have bounce back years.

Luckily Springer and Bauer are still available so won't be too negative here lol. After "fixing" Ray, we think we can do the same here. I really don't want to watch more analytical baseball where guys are pulled automatically after 3 innings. That only works if we have a dominant bullpen and not the likes of AJ f***ing Cole there. Exactly... if we could have a bunch of CFs and SSs all over the diamond, we'd have the best defense in the majors. Martin won't be calling shots as to where he starts off in the majors. By the time he does, Springer would be ready to move to a corner OF spot. And that's the best case scenario

Springer or Bauer and this offseason will be a success. I'm confident we will get a couple of 2nd/3rd tier players. -
We will eventually finish 1st place in one of these races... just hope its something we really want.

I think a lot of people are on edge of striking out this free agency. I'm still confident we will get Springer since Bauer will probably be out of our price range. Now if Springer signs elsewhere, I might storm the Rogers Center like those MAGA idiots in the US lol.

You do realize that JBJ isn't good enough for you to get in a bidding war for? He's a guy who you take if he fits your price/timeline. Now that differs from some of the elite free agents you mentioned and Springer, who most of us hope we can outbid teams for.

This is exactly what I'd expect. We've run out of options on Mcguire right? Seems right that we'd give him one last shot as the backup.

As a Blue Jays fan, it's just hard to get your hopes up that we can get 1, let alone both of them to come here. Sucks that we signed Grichuk to that unnecessary extension because he'd be the clear odd man out in this situation. Instead we'd have to trade one of Teo/Gurriel since we'd get the most back for them. That possibility was more fun to ponder when Lindor was still available. -
Agreed. You want him to get all his struggles out before you start the clock. Only way you start the clock is if he forces your hand in the minors by dominating. Heck, even then we've seen countless examples of service time manipulation.

If he kills it in AAA, I think he could still use some time to determine whether he could play a premium position at a high level (SS/CF). Maybe the Jays already know the answer to that question so this could just be a fans take who haven't gotten a chance to see him properly yet.

Ya I doubt Martin's clock begins in 2021. 2022 would be the best case scenario no matter what imo. I'm sure we'd use other players as plug ins if key players were to go down next season. Also I see Martin's position in the majors being determined by our need at the time. If we sign Springer and we think Martin would be a great CF... then I'm sure he'd start off playing LF/RF. Once he proves he can do that at a high level then we try to worry about the "issue". By that time, maybe Springer would be better off as a corner outfielder himself.
