[Heyman] The hitting market — Jorge Soler, J.D. Martinez, Justin Turner and Rhys Hoskins — is heating up. The Jays are a front-runner for Soler, with the Diamondbacks and Red Sox also interested.
Don't know much about the guy. Just hope this doesn't take any funds away from us being able to improve on our biggest weakness, which is obviously hitting. Let's please start making some move on that front.
He was batting 9th by the end of the season on a crappy hitting team. You don't blame him for all of the Jays problems but he is certainly part of the problem.
Like I said, hope he's able to turn it around at the plate this season. Since we're not adding major difference makers, we will need everyone in the lineup to step up proportionately.
Manoah was horrible last year no doubt... I just think it had to do with a fat guy who couldn't handle pitching faster with the pitch clock. Wasn't mentally and physically ready for it but I think with an offseason to work on his issues, he can regain his form. Let's see
Varsho's issues were strictly skill related and there's also a mountain to climb for a guy who won't be playing CF primarily again. Let's hope he was a victim just like all the other Jays hitters for a subpar year. Need him to hit .250 with HRs in the high 20s.
You're an idiot for hating Manoah who already had a Cy young type season in the majors and preferring him to a guy people didn't want to see in the batting lineup at the end of last season. If only there was such thing as a designated fielder, varsho would be great
You can choose to be low on Moreno based on his projections (which I don't agree with) while I can choose to be low on Varsho based on his atrocious batting. Pulling for Varsho because he does seem like a great kid who is giving it his all.
I love Biggio as the 10th guy and think Bo was our best player by far last year. I hated Biggio when he was our fulltime 3B and Bo's defense at SS but am still very positive on them currently.
Now Varsho on the other hand, ya he needs to win me over with a better season at the plate considering what we gave up for him lol.
Damn, a lot of dudes down on Manoah. I expect him to bounce back just like Berrios did. He just needs to keep his fat ass in the gym so he can handle the pitch clock without it messing him up.
To be honest, the Jays have been rumored to be doing that with practically every free agent that doesn't get what they want right away. It's a good approach because you never know when you get a bargain but there's only so many reports you can take seriously lol.
Think we just need to hope for those reports of some teams in a money crunch (SD, MIA, CLE, etc.) to be true. I thought there could be a chance where we could get some talent by eating some money but nothings happened on that front.
One thing I always love about the Jays is that they're always trying to get the best bargain on their Plan B free agents. You can tell how many of the guys we've gotten were Plan A's vs Plan B's.
[Nightengale] While several teams still remain engaged with Snell while seeing if his price-tag drops, the Toronto Blue Jays in particular have been quietly monitoring his free agency… If Bellinger does not wind up back with the Cubs, the Blue Jays and Mariners are lurking
As much as I'd love Ryu on a cheap 1 year deal, signing him pretty much signals Manoah will be in AAA no matter what no?
That'd give us 5 guys under major league deals so for that reason, I think we'd use that money on a bullpen arm instead.
