    They Jays have some interesting free agents after this season. I think the Jays make a strong offer for Justin Bieber. I hope the Jays have strong interest in bringing back Dominguez. Before last night's game, I thought Scherzer was washed. Now I am interested in a 1-year deal to bring him back. I do not think Bassitt comes back, and I think Berrios may opt out (IIRC). So 1 more year of Max may really work well. IKF and France will not be back. I don't think the Jays can afford a long-term Bo contract, but I have no idea what happens there.

    I agree. I think there is a decent shot. I don't know what gets him, 5-year, $125M? I think the FO has to be commended for signing and trading for character guys, guys who are great in the clubhouse and great team players. I think Bieber fits that bill. I strongly suspect there is mutual interest to get a deal done.

    I would be surprised if any starter gets more than two times through the batting order.

    I'd keep Nance over Scherzer, but I guess they may want that "veteran presence". IMO, Scherzer is absolutely washed. I honestly wish they would stop talking about his sage role in the clubhouse.

    Any guess on the ALCS roster? I think the Jays have until Sunday morning to figure s*** out. I will bet Bichette is back on. IKF off? Bassitt back on. I think Scherzer is left off. It will be interesting.

    Laurer is for sure better. Scherzer is washed, for one, and the Yankees typically bring 5+ lefties to the batting order.

    It is one of the best comeback years I can remember. I was actually okay with the FO releasing him over the winter if they had decided to do that. I thought he was washed.

    Just reading through some of the articles, and listening to the talking heads last night makes me believe that Bo feels ready to play, despite some results of imaging and other diagnostics, and they want to confirm he can't hurt himself anymore by playing ASAP with the information from a second opinion. At least I hope that is the case. I guess we will find out soon enough.

    I am still stunned we got Fisher for Cavan Biggio. Fisher really could be a big part of this bullpen for a long time. Just, wow.

    Bo is getting a second opinion with a specialist regarding his knee sprain - the results will determine the length of his IL stint. Blair and Barker say this is not good news.

    I feel like this is a question that's been discussed often, and I realize this is hypothetical... If Bo extends, does the Jays middle infield get better with Gimenez at SS and Bo at 2B? MLB AI thinks so... Projected Jays Middle Infield (Giménez SS + Bo 2B) Defense: Much stronger, above league average. WAR: Could add +2 to +3 WAR over a season compared to current setup, largely due to Giménez’s glove and Bo’s positional realignment.

    I am still shocked at Springer's turnaround. I actually thought DFAing him over the winter was a tenable option. It's like found money.

    Biebs, Bo, or Both? Does anyone have an opinion on Bieber? I really think the Jays aught to offer him something like Burnes' contract - Corbin Burnes signed 6 years, $210M. Maybe model the structure after Vladdy's signing bonus contract, before MLB closes that loophole. I guess it sort of depends on sustained Lauer success, or Manoah's return. Or maybe not. Truly a team needs 7 decent starters to make a season of it, it seems. I am hoping Bo signs a 10-year deal for $27.M AAV - but I don't know if he would take that. He may want $30M AAV at this point. Unsure. With those signings, Bo, Bieber or both would have to defer a bit for 2026 and 2027 to avoid the 32% luxury tax threshold. I think the FO is okay with a 20% luxury tax threshold. Whom should the Jays target out of these two, if it's an either/or situation? My head says Bieber, but heart says Bo. Ugh. Tough decisions.

    It is sort of a worst case scenario, isn't it? The FO brought in great talent for the BP. But things have been rolling snake eyes ever since. I have said this already, but I am still shocked Yesavage is not up with the team. Maybe he's not instantly used in leverage spots, but I would be tempted to use him there over Little, etc. at this point. When Little is up in the bullpen, I turn the game off.,

    Regarding Trey Yesavage, if he is added to the 40-man prior to September, and called up in August at some point, he is 100% eligible to play in the playoffs, but if he is called up in September, he is still eligible to play in playoffs, but only as an injury replacement? Either way, it starts his service clock, but this far in the season it should be a big deal.

    Dude, they had no choice. They're in first place—you have to go for it when you're in that spot. Holding onto every prospect doesn't win you a playoff series. You trade from the farm to give the big-league team a real shot. And let’s be real: only 30–40% of top prospects ever turn into legit MLB players. Most fizzle out. The Jays need help now, and they made the kind of smart, targeted moves that can actually make a difference in October.

    Decent trade deadline grade (from me) for these trades: A- They picked up Shane Bieber to stabilize the rotation—he’s not Cy Young-level anymore, but he’s still a solid mid-rotation guy with playoff experience. Seranthony Domínguez adds a big arm to the bullpen; he throws gas and has late-inning experience from Philly’s postseason runs. Ty France gives them a quality right-handed bat who can rotate through 1B/DH and actually get on base—perfect depth for a playoff lineup. And Louie Varland is a sneaky good pickup—former starter who’s thriving as a reliever now, with great stuff in short bursts and reverse splits that could be clutch in October. And years of control left. Didn’t give up top prospects, plugged every major hole. Deadline grade: A– Let’s go.

    What do the Jays really need? I'd say an (almost) elite closer type reliever, a solid middle reliever, ideally a really solid SP, and maybe (if there were any players left to trade) a big bopper. I think Brent Rooker may be a good fit there.

    Anthony Kay is having quite a season in Japan. He may be a guy to target this offseason.
