  1. He is a different man, now. He's always been awesome, but now he knows his time is running out (father time) and he has gone on record as saying he's trying to have as much fun as he can before the party is over. I personally think he would love a trade to the Jays. I mean, can you name a team that seems to have more fun? But this is 100% conjecture.
  2. A few people have mentioned LGJ may actually play okay at 3B. I don't know how I feel about this.
  3. I agree. And I am noticing that other MLB clubs are starting to consider artificial turf. The new stuff is pretty amazing.
  4. I would also like to see expanded active rosters, maybe to 28 players, and a shorted regular season so 4-6 more playoff teams can be added. The players should be hard core on increasing the number of players on the roster. It starts more service times, gets more AAA players the league minimum, would allow for more bat-only vets to stay in the game on the bench, more specialized defense only players, etc.
  5. I don't have an economics degree, but you would think the union would push for a salary floor pretty hard. Some teams seem intent to get rich of the TV contract, and do little else than provide top talent to the have teams. I would love to force the stingy teams to pay > $60M a year in payroll. Presumably that means more $$$ in the players' pockets, a healthier free agency situation, and the AAV for players to go up. Seems like a no-brainer to me.
  6. You're right. He's no Harold Baines.
  7. Mostly your comments. Didn't you suggest we sign him now? Maybe that was someone else. But then you implied that I want to wait until FA. Those would be two, black and white, options. Unless you are not on the sign-him-now bandwagon. In which case I think we are on the same page.
  8. No I am not. Maybe in the last year or two, give him the $$$ via extension. Or not. Depending on the new CBA. But between now and then, put that money towards other needs. You are thinking too black and white. It is not a case of giving him $1B NOW or doing nothing until FA. Somewhere in the middle is the answer that mitigates risk significantly.
  9. I thought Santos would be great. He had such great stuff. But he flamed out so quickly.
  10. For sure. But I mean they will need to get something. That may not happen. Maybe Gurriel jr and Kirk for an impact player.
  11. What are the chances the things I want in the new CBA happen? 1. Expanded playoffs 2. Robo-umps 3. Division re-alignment 4. Universal DH 5. A hard payroll minimum, and soft maximum cap (with luxury tax after X).
  12. I think if they give him the most money when it is time, he will sign. Let him perform into a big contract over a few years. If the Jays are really one of the big boys, $$$ when the time comes shouldn't be scary.
  13. I don't see the point in giving him 12-years, 800M or whatever. He will sign where the money is, regardless. I would rather wait, and hope that he doesn't succumb to catastrophic injury, weight issue, etc.
  14. Unless you want to date him, why?
  15. I think any day vampire works.
  16. I heard it on the radio as I was driving on the highway and had to pull over.
  17. I am old enough to remember the Fernandez/McGriff for Alomar/Carter. Man, that was a crazy trade. So many fans were livid.
  18. Great (IMO) article on three trade routes the Jays can do after the lockout that would cost ~ 24M and meet most of their needs for 2022. https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/three-roadmaps-addressing-blue-jays-remaining-off-season-needs/
  19. I think he's be > 2.5 and he's a leftie with power. I would then go after Ramirez at the trade deadline or offseason. He will cost less. I don't want to part with 3-4 solid prospects for Ramirez, but I wouldn't be upset if they did, either. The difference between those two players may only be 2 or 3 WAR, which of course this last year would have meant a playoff spot. Ugh. Being a GM would be incredibly tough.
  20. I had sort of written off Kyle Seager as a move Shatkins would have made 2-3 years ago, but the more I think about it the more I like it. He'd be cheap, and after the Jays sign 1-2 more bullpen arms, that would be good. He's good for ~ 2.5+ WAR on this team, pretty decent offense and defense, and we get that leftie bat 5th or 6th in the order. And he wouldn't be a long contract so he wouldn't block any of the kids. And of course, no QO. What sort of money would he be looking for?
  21. Absolutely there should be a floor. I am tired of the posers like the Marlins making millions of TV revenue yearly, and putting none of it back into roster improvement. Also, universal DH please. I would actually love, love love to see a radically expanded playoff format. A lot of the small market teams like Pittsburgh really will never have a chance otherwise. And then September ball becomes more of a crazy roller coaster ride.
  22. I wonder if the Jays could take Votto of their hands to cut down on the prospects going back for Castillo.
  23. That is seriously a crazy difference. Like maybe historic improvement over 3 seasons.
  24. Maybe $40M, 30M, 25, 25, 25. $40M works for 2022.
  25. Okay, I would s*** in my pants and throw up.
