  1. Toronto had a 216 + or something run differential at this point in 2015 and were 2 games under .500 We are at a 56 + run differential at this point. Our sucess going fwd will be all about run prevention. Run prevention is from the first pitch to the last. That is why you can't ignore/just dump trash in your "in-between innings and think it is all about late innings, Sps and offense.
  2. Would love that move! Fits various needs!!
  3. It is not devoid of logic to understand in baseball the pressure dynamics on the pitchers, managers, defense etc when it is a 3-1 game vs a 6-1 game... You are being obtuse if you don't think we need to upgrade our middle long relief.. If you aquire a late inning guy, it pushes guy down maybe 1 inning. I want a Murpee, Lange, Sears, Poteet, Eli Morgan, Crismatt, type that can pitch two plus innings lights out when you need that bridge from starter to late inning guys. I was saying yesterday that if we fail to get the SP/s we want we might have to pivot and get as many as 4 BP arms. Richards, Banda, Beasley are areas for improvement/ upgradebale.. That is 3 right there... Not even addressing the Kikuchi situation and how that plays out.. If we get lucky we could also upgrade Castillo.. There is a lot of room for improvment in totality on the pitching side and you are not seeing the big picture by looking at our pitching through a straw.
  4. It was 3-1 in the 5th before Richards gave up a 3 run HR.. That is why middle relief is important and we need to upgrade there also.. Wainright might not go 7 if still 3-1. The Jays at home and with their offense can 100% surpass a 2 run deficit... We didn't lose the game due to Wanright, we lost it because our pen was not able to keep it close and make everyone of those late inning ABs pressure packed and the manager worried about who's on deck and if such and such gets on if the tying run comes to the plate. That is why some teams are bringing in set up types in early inning situations like that... Those moments in mid innings can have a great impact on the game tratectory. We should NOT ignore our middle and long relief as part of our goal of overall team improvment. It is not about just a holds guy or a closer etc... Those moment in the 5th inning are just as important especially with our offensive abilities..
  5. https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/toronto-blue-jays/lourdes-gurriel-jr-21125/ I don't understand this whole thing, on one hand it says arb eligible in the article you posted, then it says FA. The other sites have FA 2025... Where is it saying he is a UFA end of 2023??
  6. LGR jr is not a FA until 2025, is a MLB piece, OF, good bat, Cuban. All the things Miami wants except for being left handed... Regardless, Miami wants OFs...
  7. The Reds would though, and they have lot's of juicy targets! Full speed ahead!!
  8. Yup, and they are looking for MLB bat... Problem is they want a lefty power bat, of which we don't have one... Might have to do a three way to land Pablo Lopez and maybe we can pick up one of their RPs as well.. That would be very fertile hunting grounds..
  9. Anyone think Rip (Cole Hauser- Yellowstone) when they show the dugout profile shot of Schneider?
  10. Lange would fit really well also..
  11. Their pen sucked up until the deadline and then was excellent in the playoffs..
  12. Or you have to Risky Business it and say What the f*** and go for it... With the Wild card situation, there is so much competition, it will cost you. The question as you pointed out is the cost going to be prospects or $$ I would rather spend $ in for a penny in for a pound and do what we need to to take us to the next level. Indians did it with the Miller trade in 2016... They didn't win the WS, but came damn close and Miller was a huge reason.. If we could get an Iglesias and the only cost is $$.. You need to do it, the stars lining up and getting something of equal value with little prospect capital or $$ is highly unlikely..
  13. IF we went as high as 4 it would be a combo of upgrades to current RPs, late inning guys and a 5th SP, long relief type guy or spot starter SP/RP like a Sears (Yankees) Poteet (Marlins). I am NOT ok with what we have in totality in the pen. We need to upgrade in multiple spots.. It is not add 4 to what we have. We have the same pen we had a few weeks ago... We just have some recency bias since we have been winning.... I do not want to go to war with what we have now and want to upgrade by some combo of SPs/RPs, or IF we can't make it work with SPs, then go the KC Royals route cerca 2015 and have a lockdown pen from the 5th inning on and you only need to get 4 ips out of your starters...
  14. Again, I said up to 4 RPs all depending what we do with SPs... I made it clear I am not saying 2 Sps and 4 RPs it depends one on or the other and the types of RPs and SPs.. We need to make the playoffs before we can start talking about playoff rotations and only needing 4 SPs.. There is still 45% of the season left. You can never have to much depth. I can name really solid depth guys in AAA or waiting to come off the IL for the Yankees, Marlin's, Mets as examples.. We don't have that... We have nothing waiting in the wings for SP or RP... We still need more depth..
  15. Yes!! That is what we need to do.. The cost is $$ and not some future HOF, but he is an elite back end arm that lengthens our BP and immediatley helps our SP situation since we don't need as many innings from them to reach quality in the pen.
  16. I said 2-4 BP arms, depending on what we do with SPs. If one, of those guys regresses or gets injured we have zero depth except for Kickuchi.. and then you have 3 SPs for 45% of the season remaining. Berrios has been hit or miss, Stripling SSS.... We need more depth... When I say 2 SPs I am talking about a Luis Castillo and maybe a Chad Kuhl etc... I would have really liked Cody Poteet as a 5th SP swing man, but he just went on the 6o day IL... But if you think we have enough SP depth, you have not been following baseball long enough.. If we get a guy like a Poteet, (obviously not him) then we don't need 4 BP arms, but if we only get 1 SP, then I do think we need an infusion of set up types, and upgrade middle/long relief.... We won't be playing the AAAA Royals and the Bad news Bears Red Sox down the stretch..
  17. Our position of strengh this year IMO is ability to eat $$ on big contracts. Without wiping out our farm, I think we are at a disadvantage compared to other teams with specs and need to leverage $$ for SPs. Our farm is not as strong as it was the past two years in terms of trade capital without totally mortgaging our future, we don't have the depth IMO. LGRjr was just an example.. It is easier to replace LGR then it is to aquire a solid SP. We are only doing ok with SPs because we don't need a 5th starter until Saturday I believe. We need at least 2 SPs IMO, that is barring any regression or further injuries. We also need 2-4 BP pieces. I really think the only way to get there and get quality return is moving MLB pieces and eating some bad contracts as part of a deal or taking on big contracts..
  18. With all the pitching needs we have, I just don't see how we can check all the boxes without moving a position player.. Most likely someone like LGR jr.. Hence, the aquistion of someone like Laureno as a replacement. The A's might not match up with what the team is selling, i.e an SP with big $$ remaining... Hence use MLB pieces and eating $$ to obtain for us, replace loss for us via specs etc to someone like the A's..
  19. He hasn’t played the whole year. He is starting to warm up. He would make our team better without a doubt in my mind. Don’t think he would be cheap though.
  20. Poor Charlie, be gets fired, called feminine in a BJMB thread and is being accused of cursing us.. LOL La is generally reserved for feminine. El is the masculine Having said that, very happy to have Schneider.
  21. He is who I wanted after Gibbons in the first place. Hope he is here to stay and this is a waste of a thread.
  22. Who was that blond 1b we shipped to the Brewers for Estrada. Not Overbay, after him. I heard he was partly shipped out for being a clubhouse team/issue. Adam L??
  23. Waiting on my drunk/high/will regret in the AM trade offer....
  24. Orioles supposedly will be making Santander and Lopez available among others.. Santander switch hitter gets us a lefty bat.. Lopez a back end high leverage RP..
  25. Plus they lost John Means for the year and are still on our heals.
