  1. Just another sign of mortality staring us all in the eyes... A once potent offense regressing in big way due to cruel father time.
  2. Yeah but we're talking about Russel Martin here. How many times has he struck out swinging this year? Have him squeeze and you take the Rangers by surprise and don't risk him K'ing or rolling over on one like he did there.
  3. I know it's early but I'm really starting to think that these guys are 1 season wonders.
  4. Anyone else starting to f***ing hate Martin?
  5. It's getting really frustrating seeing this shitballer for the 2nd time this season just mowing down these "dangerous" power hitters.
  6. Theres nothing I hate more than seeing a team get a runner on 3rd with no outs and then subsequently fail to drive the run in. Just have Martin squeeze for f***s sakes
  7. I don't think so. Their rotation has been costing them a lot of games and putting the team in rough situations but the offense and elite level bullpen's been compensating for that particular roster weakness. You consider the talent of guys like Davis, Machado, Trumbo(in the AL East) and Jones and you have a pretty elite core... Not to mention valuable pieces like Hardy and Weiters. I get it. I want the O's to lose as much as anyone here. It makes my blood boil if they beat the Jays, but we can't allow ourselves to be ignorant of the talent that they put on the field. It's a pretty darn good team, and they're a definite threat of ours. Certainly not a club we should dismiss as "trash".
  8. It's a good team and it's certainly possible, but a lot of people overlook the vast improvements that the O's and Bo-Sox made. The divisions a lot better than it was last year, and the Jays can't just expect to go on another miracle run again.
  9. What do you think his 650 OPS in his 300 at bats with the Blue Jays is attributed to? Sure, it's not the largest sample size... But he's approaching a pretty ugly seasons worth of offensive stats considering the money the club is paying him. There was an interesting article posted on fangraphs documenting his regression today. You guys should give this a read http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-worrisome-trend-for-troy-tulowitzki/ The ending of the article somes it up perfectly: "Pull-heavy guys who don’t make contact are often at the end of their road as productive hitters, and it certainly seems possible that Tulowitzki’s time as an impact offensive player is coming to an end........ ......Troy Tulowitzki as an elite player is probably gone forever"
  10. This is an illogical comparison. Tulo's career has been halted by some serious injuries and he's now going on into his 30's... It's foolish at this point to assume that he's just slumping and that he'll rebound to his glory days. Not to mention that the guy spent his career playing in an absolute hitters paradise.
  11. Sure, the bullpen hasn't been great, but when you rely on them in close tie/1-run games then they're always going to be an easy scapegoat. The simple fact is that the Blue Jays are built on offense and if they have 3 regulars in the lineup hitting around 150 halfway through May then you have a big problem on your hands and they're just not going to win games.
  12. It's a grip it and rip it offense. Guys are gonna strike out a lot.
  13. All Tulo had to do was put it in play. I really don't see how you can keep his bat in the lineup like this.
  14. + I respect that you run this message board, but I don't understand what you mean by "rampant stupidity". You've obviously seen how many times both Tulo and Goins have killed countless offensive chances with their approach at the plate and if you honestly think that Travis is gonna come back after being injured for more than a year and continue on with his productive rookie numbers then I don't know what to tell you. The truth is this would be a team riding high in 1st place if it wasn't for Tulo, Goins and Martin at the plate.
  15. @Spanky99 You believe it's acceptable for both your starting SS and 2B to be hitting with a 150 AVG going into mid-May? I realize players go into slumps and you obviously have to give Tulo more rope but you have to cut the cord with Goins at this point. Hell, just let Barney start everyday until he approaches Goins' woeful numbers.
  16. Sure, but then you have another guy in the starting lineup who might not hit.
  17. Over reaction? I don't see how. I think it's clear at this point that Goins shouldn't be given extended playing time. It's not as if he hasn't been below replacement level before. And you can't keep putting Tulo in the lineup if he's not going to hit. You are right about one thing though, this is a good team, and it's almost surprising that their record is as good as it is with all things considered. But that just goes to show how awesome the rotations been.
  18. Fair enough. Although I'm not really sure that the Rockies are going for a full-blown rebuild. They seem to be taking the half-pregnant measure and I think if they believed that Tulo was still the kind of player who would give them 5+WAR a season that they wouldn't have bothered trading him.
  19. Absolutely. I found it a little unorthodox that the new front-office didn't bring in their own team management guys but I suppose that was a PR move. The bench is a huge problem, and back to my point- would benefit greatly with a guy who could play some infield that you could at least sub in for Goins and Tulo (if he continues to struggle) late in the game... But they have no options. The fact that Ezequiel Carrera is the go-to bat off the bench late in the game is sad.
  20. Despite Goins' glove, I really don't think he should be on a big-league roster so I wouldn't exactly consider him a viable option. Andy Burns hasn't even been all that good in the minors so I wouldn't feel very comfortable giving him extended playing time. The biggest disappointment is easily Tulo. I think the first warning sign would have been the fact that The Rockies happily shipped their face of the franchise player out of town. Surely he can't continue to be as abysmal as he has, but even if he levels out with an AVG around 230 or 240 he's still an albatross to the team considering his contract. Sure, If we're rebuilding than you can try and piece things together and give whomever a chance but this is a team who's built to win a division. Changes need to be made.
  21. When is he slated to return? He's been out so long that I don't think you should expect much out of him though, but my goodness has he been missed.
  22. Simply having 1 defensive wizard/offensive black-hole in a lineup is a risky decision and the Jays currently have 3, 2 which happen to play side by side at middle infield.
  23. Jays really need to address their infield positions. I understand that Goins and Tulo are great defensively, but they're both killing the team with their offense. Tulo's average currently sits at 162 and Goins is at 146. It's not early anymore folks. Their offense has been so detrimental that I don't think you can keep them in the lineup on a daily basis. The only problem is there's no other options. Barney's looked good, but don't be fooled: his offense has always been his Achilles heel and he will come down to earth sooner than later. Can you guys think of any sensible trade targets or call-ups who can provide a little pop for the infield?
