  1. 116 WRC+ at Coors, 144 away. Though looking at his past years I wouldnt project that going forward.
  2. We want a young, team and cost controlled group of core players. Trading away an extremely young (who already has experience), very good closer and using money to try and replace him isnt ideal.
  3. We would still get the pick this year but no first round picks are attached to a qualifying offer with the new CBA (2017 onwards)
  4. Fowler is younger, less injury prone, faster on the bases and plays better defense/arm. Jose has better power.
  5. It will be short term, not a hope in hell he gets 4 years+, likely not even 3.
  6. If they are going to play Pearce in the field everyday, might as well forget about Fowler, try acquiring Eaton and use the Fowler money on EE. Im just not so sure Pearce in the OF and Jose/EE at 1st is optimal
  7. He wouldnt even get 4/60 right now. 2/33 with an opt out
  8. Pretty dumb thing to do. One of the top pitching prospects on the planet and he decides to go punch people and break his hand. He has thrown 105mph too.
  9. Sandoval as the full time DH and Turner at 3rd
  10. We still dont know who else they will sign to DH. Its quite possible they go all in and get EE, the timing is perfect.
  11. Our pitching staff has a higher probability to regress imo.
  12. It might be offset by the increase 1 WAR is worth going forward..
  13. Trout is probably the GOAT, Id guess somewhere in the neighbourhood of 8/400 but I know s*** lol
  14. My mistake, I should have been more clear but we were discussing the actual cost paid by the Red Sox. I am aware of the theoretical value that someone like Mike Trout has under a $/WAR model.
  15. The context of the original post was what the Boston Red Sox actually paid to get Chris Sale
  16. There is sort of a curve relating WAR to $$ they actually get at the higher end. Donaldson could put up another 7 win season but in 2019 noone is going to give him a 5 year deal worth 300 mill, same with Trout at 500 mill for 6 years...
  17. Yeah but it doesnt work like that though. Mike Trout is the best player in the world but I wouldnt say he is worth 9x9x3= 243 mill over 3 seasons.
  18. Am I missing something? I get that Its Chris Sale but 100 mill for 3 years.. how is he worth "way more"?
  19. I hear there is a no throwback jersey clause in the contract.
  20. I agree, if he keeps his production up I cant see the FO committing to the kind of money and term that he will command (and get from someone). If he has another big season, that might be the right time to trade him, rather than let him walk and get next to nothing.
  21. From a brief search online in a worse case scenario a resident (in the tax bracket these guys are in) of a state with no state tax (I dont know where Dexter Fowler's primary residence is, but he is from Georgia which has a state tax) would receive about 2.7% less if playing in Toronto. 2.7% of 60 million is about 450K a year on a 4 year contract, hardly a deal breaker imo.
  22. I was under the impression Pro Athletes pay tax based on their primary residence but Ive seen a number of sources recently that seem to suggest the opposite.
  23. Some stats for Morales for the past two seasons: AT TOR, NYY and BOS combined 76AB 2HR 18H Other parks 483AB 28HR 132H Kauffman 568AB 22HR 162H So 1HR per 38AB @ Those 3 HR friendly parks 1HR per 17.25AB @ Other parks 1HR per 25.8AB @ Kauffman His power is better from the left side vs L as R 15HR in 420AB vs R as L 37HR in 707AB Small sample size but I was expecting a little better production at those AL East parks. FYI @10 mill I like the Morales signing.
  24. nobody here is more excited about Pearce than EE. For 2/12.5 it has the potential to provide great value. This allows us to go after someone big like a Dexter Fowler. If we added him, a backup catcher, bullpen help etc the payroll is up around 160mill. The casual fan doesn't understand this isn't a fantasy league, you can't just go out and blow money away on multiple year deals when we already have a few big commitments and JDs free agency looming. Pearce could turn out to be a massive bargain. If he can stay healthy and play a full season he could be worth 3 WAR. If he doesn't it was a small commitment for small $$ ie little downside risk
  25. I wish these Jay Bruce rumours would go away.
