  1. I think it's a tad early to hand Roden a spot coming out of Spring Training. I'd prefer that the team makes him prove that he can keep producing top notch offensive contributions right until the end of the spring. I've been impressed with the total package he presents at the defense and baserunning have both been very solid as well.
  2. The slow page loading issue has been fixed on both desktop and mobile. Thank goodness as the load times were pretty painful for the last while.
  3. Yeah a Robertson signing is a no brainer at this point as Swanson has already suffered from forearm and elbow issues a few weeks into spring training.
  4. That's an awfully tall ask for a teenager that ran a 30% K rate in low A ball. I don't know how much of that is due to pitch recognition vs hand/eye coordination, but his ultimate ceiling will depend of making the necessary improvements to bring this under control.
  5. That seems a little optimistic unless you think he's the second coming of Arod.
  6. If Varsho can throw without issue I wouldn't be particularly interested in playing him at DH. It's just a massive waste to park one of MLB's best defenders on the bench. This would force a lesser player into duty in the outfield, and would reduce the flexibility of the DH spot as well as reducing potential playing time for bat first players like Wagner, Orelvis etc.
  7. I'll have to disagree pretty strongly with that assessment. I can get on board with utilizing underlying numbers to evaluate what *should* have happened on the field and the likelihood of success or failure on an individual basis, but the actual on the field results and associated statistics are the primary driver towards wins and losses.
  8. I did a little reading on the subject, and it does appear that there are a few spring training statistics that carry some value. Prospects Live suggested that maximum exit velocity for hitters is useful and that pitch characteristics (pitch velocity, spin rate, break etc.) are useful for pitchers. https://www.prospectslive.com/which-spring-training-stats-matter/#:~:text=Conclusion,you can't enjoy them.&text=Please check your inbox and click the confirmation link.,-Read Next There is a study posted on the economist that argues that spring training stats do have utility despite their inherent noisiness. This appears to be the study that shows that walk and strikeout rates are useful, as is isolated power numbers. Unfortunately it's locked behind a paywall so I wasn't able to read through the entire study vs perusing a summary on ESPN.com. https://www.espn.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/77800/which-spring-training-stats-actually-matter
  9. Anthony Santander going 3 for 30 in the spring would be far from ideal given the likelihood that it bled into the regular season.
  10. Just don't let Max challenge balls and strikes and that's a golden combination.
  11. Yeah that shoulder looks awfully healthy to me. I'm also curious to see how he looks once he gets a chance to play the outfield and test out the throwing arm.
  12. I generally enjoy most of what Stoeten writes, my only real issue is some of the SJW nonsense he pushes at times.
  13. I saw a post suggesting that a reader had seen the job listing for the Athletic Jays beat writer and it was in the $75k range or thereabouts.
  14. I recall there was discussion that they were attempting to hire a new writer. I used to receive a ton of value from my Athletic subscription as there were the aforementioned 3 Blue Jays centric writers along with several Flames writers as well, but not it's down to zero for each. A large chunk of the Blue Jays coverage now is basically Ken Rosenthal dunking on the organization at every possible opportunity which is not something I'm interested in paying for as I could read Steve Simmons for free if I was actually interested in that kind of content.
  15. Adames basically produced a Bo Bichette season in 2024 with a 119 wRC+ and -16 DRS/0 OAA. It's nearly impossible to know what to expect from Adames moving forward.
  16. That was the Athletic who fired him. I believe he was drunk for a podcast where Stephen Brunt was being interviewed. It's a shame he got himself shitcanned from the Athletic job as that publication used to feature 3 Blue Jays centered writers and now is down to none.
  17. Bo tends to go in defensive slumps where he makes a bunch of mistakes and his metrics have a tendency to plummet as this occurs. I hope that it will be possible to track changes to the metrics a little more easily at some point in the future to make it easier to quantify the drops to the various metrics once the inevitable slump hits. I think his arm strength has never been much of an issue, I believe his issues stem from poor mechanics at times that leads to the errant throws. We shall see how the range looks this season after the barrage of calf issues last season, hopefully that hasn't been overly affected.
  18. I was impressed by Nimmala in the field as he was silky smooth at short stop and flashed a very strong arm. He wasn't overly challenged by any of the plays but I thought he looked very sure handed vs Bo who has people holding their breath when the ball is hit his way.
  19. I liked the stuff he was featuring but the command is definitely a work in progress as he grooved a bunch of fastballs.
  20. If you read between the lines even a little bit it appears as though Bo is very old school in his preparation approach. He's made comments that strongly suggest he's not particularly interested in the more advanced data and training approaches. That's fine as it's obviously his prerogative with regards to training methods but I fully believe he's holding himself back with the extreme over aggressiveness at the plate and unlocking his full potential will require improvement.
  21. In the unlikely event that the current front office actually wins a playoff game you can still keep him. This version is much better.
  22. If I'm not mistaken the shoulder issue wasn't a long term and that the initial injury happened a month or so before his season ended. I believe it occurred on a defensive play.
  23. Ok I'm getting suspicious someone has hacked Jonn's account or something.
