    If this happened with the Blue Jays the exact same group of fans that is so incensed over the Blue Jays decision to let a mediocre replacement level longman type go to the Yankees would also be super pissed at the front office if Yarbrough had this type of blowup as a member of the Blue Jays.

    I might be inventing a quote that he never actually used, but I think that Buck Martinez would suggest that Easton Lucas looked really starterish in his season debut.

    I think Giminez's contract is pretty friendly to both sides. If Gimenez blossoms back into a star the deal starts to look team friendly, but if he bounces back to 2023 level 4 FWAR it looks very fair to both parties.

    I think Wagner has potential to hit a ton of doubles as the exit velocities are solid enough. I had a peak at his Statcast numbers and he's really struggling against the heater with a .215 xwOBA against the heater. That trend is going to need to reverse if he's to continue to enjoy success.

    Jays have already offered Vlad a truckload of money. I think he's most likely going to receive a rude awakening in free agency.

    Giminez very well may be morphing back into a star player in front of our eyes this season.

    I'd still be totally on board with a Bo extension at this point. Vlad's shown himself to be a delusional greedy idiot and it's entirely possible the team may have dodged a massive bullet with Vlad turning down the already well above market value extension offer.

    Vlad has actually been getting under the ball a tad too much so far. Leading up to the game his groundball was easily at a career best 35%, which is a 10% drop from his previous best.

    Well this game certainly went the way everyone expected. Lucas handily outpitches Mackenzie Gore Gore is roughed up by the Blue Jays Springer dinger off of Gore Several hits from Straw off of the bench It's really easy to feel good about this team right now. Once Santander and Vlad start chipping in with the home run ball this offense could be downright dangerous. I was very impressed with Lucas, as his fastball in particular was a weapon up in the zone and the command was very solid as well.

    Still prefer Yarbrough at this point? We know that Yarbrough's ceiling is decent long man, but Lucas really opened my eyes as a dude who looks like he might be a legitimate option for the back end of the rotation.

    I think Wagner has looked very good at third base in spring training and early in the season. He's not a gold glove candidate like Ernie Clement but the defense has been very solid so far.

    I'll reserve judgment on who I'd rather see pitch between Lucas and Yarbrough until I've actually seen Lucas pitch. He did produce pretty decent numbers in AAA last season and his stuff+ numbers look decent as well so he may prove to be a cromulent depth rotation option.

    This feels a lot like last year when most of the better rotation depth options started the season on the injured list.

    Some of the tools look to be a little better than advertised. Roden's sprint speed has worked it's way up to above league average at 27.5 ft/s, albeit with an awkward looking running technique. The defense has been very good so far as well.

    Vlad has an unusual issue this season in that his launch angle is actually a bit too high as he's getting under the ball too much. The exit velo is excellent as per usual, hopefully he can level the swing out a bit as he appears to be attempting to lift a bit too much. With Santander he's a notorious slow starter for his career but the power should come eventually. He has a career 84 wRC+ over Mar/Apr for his career with only 12 career home runs.

    Jake Bloss was torched for 9 hits/8 runs (3 earned) in only 4 innings last night. Schneider mentioned that they wanted Bloss to be pitching well before a potential rotation callup so this start didn't exactly help his cause.

    I didn't specifically reference any past performances directly, but thanks I guess. I would tend to think that the 141 wRC+ that Gimenez produced in 2022 is at least somewhat inspiring, but perhaps your standards are better for some reason. He's never been a Statcast monster even in his best season, but the 2024 result saw him underperform the expected statistics to a decent degree, suggesting that the bat could have been pretty close to league average that season with a little better luck on batted balls.

    At the end of the season that's ultimately true but a bad start in April still leaves 5 months remaining to play catch up in the standings.

    That's after removing a 30-40 home run bat in Santander from their roster as well.

    Yeah Manoah was the opening day starter a single time in between the Berrios starts.

    The Gimenez trade felt primarily financially driven in nature. I recall shortly after the trade Cleveland GM Mike Chernoff stated on record that he felt that Gimenez was capable of making the necessary adjustments at the plate to return to being more productive offensively.

    The first game of the season was just one of those games where the Orioles parked every single mistake pitch in the seats like they knew what was coming. I believe Berrios' command was just off a bit in that start, and the Blue Jays opening day starter seems to get bombed by the opposition in most seasons in recent memory.

    Too many fans only look at the latest season in isolation with zero regards to prior performances when formulating their opinions on a player. Gimenez is a perfect example of this.
