    Would they even understand that you are playing a joke on them? I don't expect they would be familiar with Weird Al or the original song that Amish Paradise is based on, so I say play away and see what happens.

    There is quite a bit of money coming off of the books. Ray's 8 million, Matz 5.2 million, Semien 18 million, Roark 12 million, Yates 5.5 million, Tulo 4 million, Yamaguchi 3.75 million, Chatwood 3 million. That's nearly $60 million in expiring contracts alone, so there should be a decent amount available to address club needs through free agency.

    Callaway was a serial offender who committed his infractions over the course of decades. I don't know if he's a good comparable to Bauer. Roberto Osuna for instance was "only" suspended 75 games for his offence, although we never may fully know the details of what he actually did.

    Yeah no need to f*** around any longer, Pearson even with a bit of wildness would have to be more effective than the corpse of Brad Hand at this point. The bullpen desperately needs pitchers who can get outs right now.

    Is there actually a precedent for this length of suspension? I can't recall any MLB players having received what would basically amount to greater than a 1.5 year suspension for a domestic violence related infraction.

    This could simply be the case of a good player having a bad year. His statcast batted ball metrics are pretty much in line with his career averages, but his batted ball profile shows him having used the entire field more compared to previous years where he was more pull heavy. He has been tinkering with his approach to become more aggressive, but this might be counterproductive for him as one of his best attributes was his ability to work walks. Biggio has been swinging at more pitches and subsequently chasing more as well. Get him back to the previously more selective approach and the results should improve.

    Given the accuracy of injury updates from the club I take this to mean that Springer is done for the season. Day to day with this club means several weeks, where week to week typically indicates several months.

    Up until the most recent Springer injury I thought the club had a very strong chance to work their way into a wildcard slot. Trading away top talent for a contending ballclub likely would have really pissed off guys that you want to retain as members of your future core. Unfortunately without Springer and the continued tirefire of a bullpen their chances have essentially faded away, but I don't think there was really any way to predict that Springer would have suffered a freak injury and ended up missing most if not all of the rest of the regular season.

    I still find myself wishing that the club would have given Vladdy Jr. a chance to play third base in the spring to see how he looked there. After the weightloss with the way he's moving on the field now he likely could have played close to if not better than average at third base. Having Rowdy at first base and Vladdy at third base likely would have strengthened the club a great deal compared to having Biggio play out of position at third.

    Why do Biggio's 290 poor plate appearances this season automatically cancel out the more successful 695 plate appearances from 2019-2020? He's been playing through injuries all year by the sounds of things, with injured hands early on and both a bad back and neck later on. I'd say give him a chance to get healthy first and get back to playing a position in the field he is suited for before completely writing him off. He's only 26 for crying out loud, it's not like he's a washed up older veteran.

    With Martin and SWR gone two of the premium trade chips are already used up. Cleveland would certainly be well within their rights to ask for either Gabriel Moreno or Orelvis Martinez, and as you say giving up either of these guys in trade would be a tough pill to swallow.

    Going forward I wonder what his role will be on this team. If Semien is retained he might not have a starters job available, I wouldn't be surprised if Kevin Smith ends up claiming the starter's job at third base next year. Does Biggio have more value as a trade chip or as a super utility player? Time will tell.

    Biggio came off the IL a while back and went on a heater for a few weeks. Perhaps we was actually healthy for once instead of battling through various back and neck issues. Either of those would have to be pretty debilitating for a sport that is so rotational. There is a good player still in there somewhere, he hasn't suddenly lost all of his talent.

    How is it looking any worse than it did initially? I originally wasn't a huge fan as I thought that Martin and Woods Richardson were close to untouchables, but post trade reflecting has me realizing that each guy given up had some serious warts emerging. I think Martin can still turn into a great player if he can tap into his power professionally, but there is no guarantee here. Woods Richardson was still striking out a ton of batters, so his ceiling remains very high. Like Martin there are question marks whether he will be able to reach that ceiling or not. Berrios was terrific in his first two starts with the team, and looks to be fitting in nicely so far as we can tell from the tv broadcasts. There is a very good chance the club will be able to extend him before his contract expires, and he's likely the clubs number 2 starter at worst heading into next season.

    Teoscar has been on a heater in August which has inflated the BABIP numbers a fair bit, but his lowest BABIP month of the season is July where he still posted a .321 BABIP. His xWOBA and WOBA are within a few points of each other, so ultimately the high BABIP is of little concern when evaluating his offensive performance. All of Teoscar's batted ball metrics are within the upper 80-low 90 percentile rating, so his offensive stats are well earned.

    That's a relief at least. At the initial time of injury this looked like something that could have ended Springer's season.

    The long term prospects are great. I disagree greatly about them never making the playoffs this year though. The team as constructed in the offseason was very strong, but unfortunately they have been sunk by injuries to the bullpen. If they had even a bit better bullpen health they very likely would be several games ahead in the standings compared to now.

    I felt really good about the team after the amazing homestand. That has really reversed after the back to back disaster games in this series. If Springer is out for an extended period I'm having a hard time seeing this team staying in the wildcard race.

    Odd they just threw Murphy away in order to replace him with an anonymous AAA reliever instead. As soon as Pearson is ready Overton likely finds himself on waivers next, likely having pitched one or two innings total. Terrible asset management by the front office.
