  1. Given the overall tone of that post it's pretty hard not to imagine you pounding on the keyboard while red faced with veins popping out of your forehead while writing it.
  2. That was an especially violent swing that Teoscar took upon injuring himself, enough so that Mr. Vanilla Pat Tabler commented on how there was no need to swing so hard you hurt yourself. He must be a bit of a soothsayer or something. We see Bo swing like that on basically every swing though, hopefully he doesn't eventually end up seeing the same fate. I can't help but think that the shortened spring training is at least partially to blame here, I believe the covid shortened season saw a ton of soft tissue injuries after the shortened spring training of that year as well, so baseball as a whole may be in for a rough ride injury wise this year.
  3. I'm maybe not the best guy to comment as I had a similar outburst against JimmyFelix1234 or whatever the hell he calls himself but it honestly looks like it's that time of the month for you given the meltdown we just witnessed. Terminator is obviously just having some fun with a bit of mild trolling, not sure it's worth this type of angry outburst unless I'm missing something.
  4. It was a completely unnecessary risk as Grichuk had several years of control remaining at the time. There's really no reason to lock up 2 win players early like this anyway, these types aren't particularly hard to attain. I don't lose sleep over it as the contract wasn't so onerous that it really prevented the club from acquiring more assets, but hopefully this served as a lesson learned for the front office.
  5. Absolutely amazing performance by Vlad last night. Couple of gripes though, just gotta think the bullpen could use another leverage arm, Richards really hasn't been getting the job done so far. He was lucky not to have given up a homerun to Stanton, I thought that looked gone off the bat. Charlie needs to wisen up when he sees his players obviously injured on the field. You could see the concern on his face after the Teoscar swing, that was the time to get him out of the game, no sense in potentially making things worse by letting him continue. It almost feels like a player needs to fall over dead before Charlie will remove him from a game with injury. On the flip side of this he allowed Vlad to remain in the game with a lacerated finger so I guess it's not all bad.
  6. This is obviously with the benefit of hindsight but I can't say I'm feeling great about the Jays catching and outfield situations at the moment. The Grichuk and McGuire trades may have felt defensible at the time each was made but with the early injuries to each of Jansen and Teoscar it would sure be nice to have each of these guys back right about now.
  7. I thought it looked like Judge swung at the previous pitch as well.
  8. Probably because it was such a rare occurrence.
  9. Taking one look at the way the guy is built can help you answer that question for yourself. He's already experienced hip issues so no sense in pushing him too hard and ending up injured. If you think the Jays catching situation looks grim now imagine what that would look like if Kirk were to go down with injury.
  10. I would make this change today if it were possible.
  11. Biggio used to barrel up baseballs with far more frequency when he first came up to MLB. This has been steadily declining since his first season in 2019, along with decreasing sweet spot and hard hit percentages. His batted ball profile has taken a real turn for the worst as his line drive and flyball percentages have both dropped significantly with a corresponding increase in ground balls. I don't know if this can necessarily be explained by a change in the baseball, or whether this is more indicative of a player with eroding batted ball skills.
  12. Those rings are pretty awesome but I can only imagine how intensely uncomfortable they would be to wear for any amount of time.
  13. IIRC he suffered an oblique injury in the spring.
  14. At his age that's likely the best he can hope for anyway.
  15. No mention of soft hands though so the Pat Tabler erection detector was only registering a 6 out of 10.
  16. There's sure to be some growing pains but at least the electronic strike zone can be tweaked over time to iron out the glitches. That has to be better than what we've seen up to this point in the season where a human umpire that can reliably call balls and strikes has yet to be seen in Jays games.
  17. The fact Carter was able to produce 100 RBI while also producing a negative WAR value just proves what a great run producer he was.
  18. I don't know if there will ever be another sporting moment in my lifetime that can replace the pure elation I felt when Joe's homerun cleared the fence. I was literally jumping up and down with joy. What about his personality turned you off? I tuned out of baseball for quite a few years after the 94 strike so didn't follow the team much at all until the 2000's rolled around, maybe I missed some kind of drama during that time.
  19. There should be a Joe Carter award for such an accomplishment, although the bar would need to be set higher (or lower actually?) as Carter managed a -0.6 WAR with 30 home runs once.
  20. Another day another lousy umpiring performance. It's remarkable that people in the game day thread were blaming Vladdy for not swinging at missed call number 1, when you have a player with elite plate discipline you don't want them hacking away at obvious balls early in the game well before you've even established that the umpire is going to be causing headaches with bogus ball/strike calls.
  21. That was my observation as well, it's almost like the guy is closing his eyes before releasing his pitches as he generally has no idea where his fastball is going to end up. On one pitch he'll miss several inches up and off the plate to his arm side, then on the next he'll groove one down the middle etc. Constantly falling behind makes it tough for your secondary pitches to be effective as hitters can really key into looking for pitches to drive. Kikuchi's heat maps for 2021 show far too many middle middle meatballs, he's going to need to really iron out the command if he's to have any kind of success. Could this be a result of not being able to grip the baseball? This is more of a casual observation as I don't know how to break down heat maps over time, but but after the sticky stuff crackdown his results really cratered. How much of this is due to the stark loss of spin on his pitches vs poor location is an interesting topic.
  22. If a player is on the 40 man roster already this is certainly an option, but in the case of Martinez he hasn't been added to the 40 man yet so somebody else would need to be removed first. This would potentially lead to losing a player from the organization, while also starting Martinez's service clock as well.
  23. Manoah's entire MLB career only spans 21 starts at this point, so in a certain sense 5 starts for him is a significant sample of his overall body of work. At any rate it's entirely defensible to be excited about the young man's potential given how effective he's been so far.
  24. That looks to me like it was an illegal takeout slide as the runner didn't appear to make any effort to maintain contact with the base.
  25. As Spanky previously mentioned Manoah is on an impressive 5 start run dating back to last season. In 5 starts he's produced a 1.38 ERA, 2.64 FIP and been worth 1.0 WAR. The one start this season looks to have picked up right where he left off but with a new weapon added to his arsenal in a nice changeup and a potential tick up in velocity as well.
