  1. Just take the loss and move on man. I love how people instantly throw out the "cherry pick" argument every time they lose a debate. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black, as it's obvious you are massaging the statistics when comparing these two pitchers as the one and only statistic you have been using all along to compare Bassitt and Gibson is FIP. Bassitt has been a FIP beater for his entire career, and that is happening this season as well. Bassitt has a better ERA as well as a better xERA vs Gibson to back this up as well. You can piss and moan all day long about how the front office chose to sign Bassitt instead of Gibson, but the fact is they tried to sign Gibson and he chose a different offer. I just love how you spend so much time bitching and moaning about the front office with all of this hind sight criticism. It would be awesome if the front office could just choose every player they wanted to sign and get them signed at discount rates. I hate to break it to you but there is competition among all of MLB's teams for free agents and sometimes there is a need to pony up and pay market rate to sign quality free agents.
  2. It's been reported on multiple Blue Jays broadcasts that the Jays offered Gibson the same $10 million contract but he chose to sign with the Orioles. Aside from overpaying relative to the competition a Gibson signing simply wasn't in the cards. There's little point to bemoaning how the front office didn't sign him because they made him a competitive offer that he chose to decline.
  3. I have a really hard time seeing the team move Bo off of short stop long term in order to replace him with Paul DeJong. DeJong has a really good chance to revert to the bench quality bat he's displayed for 3 of the last 4 seasons.
  4. Wait, you are saying that a dude who can pull off the splits at first base isn't flexible enough to be an elite hitter? I've seen some really weird takes but that one takes the cake.
  5. At a glance I don't think DeJong has the arm for third base as he's 24th percentile in arm strength. Although he's improved tremendously, Bo at 3rd is also likely a recipe for disaster given his issues with throwing accuracy on shorter throws from short stop.
  6. It would be a really tall ask to call up a rookie to make his major league debut, all while replacing one of a team's most important players in the thick of the wild card race. Barger can compete for a spot on the club out of spring training and not be dumped into the middle of an absolute pressure cooker situation.
  7. I really hope that Seattle decides to sell. Teo would be a perfect fit for this roster.
  8. Prices at the deadline are much higher now than they used to be due to the much larger pool of potential contenders. If the front office moves the likes of Tiedemann and Orelvis for rental players then you can go ahead and bitch about how they emptied the farm like AA did.
  9. It's too bad the Blue Jays have one of baseball's worst minor league systems. They must have had to move several top prospects for Hicks. Oh wait, they moved a few middle of the pack back end rotation options. There is a wave of middle infielders currently filling the roster in Buffalo, but those don't count obviously. The team had a rotation full of legitimate prospects that allowed this trade to be made without touching any of the top prospects, so it's not nearly as dire as you are trying to portray.
  10. Tiedeman is almost certainly going to be a lot more than a cheap back end of the rotation arm.
  11. If he's not healthy he won't even be on the roster to start with.
  12. Yeah it's quite the swing in value adding Hicks to the pen and removing break only in case of emergency option White from the roster.
  13. The potential difference maker rotation options are already dwindling a bit with the Scherzer and Montgomery trades. It also sounds like the Cubs may go for it so that could also mean Stroman may not be available as well.
  14. You are speculating whether Romano will be removed as closer. If he's done nothing to warrant being removed from this spot why would you even bring it up as a topic for discussion unless you thought there was a reason to do so?
  15. Romano had done absolutely nothing to warrant being removed as closer.
  16. I think the entire pen is going to be stacked if/when everyone is back healthy and at peak effectiveness. A pen with Romano, Green, Swanson, Hicks, Mayza, Garcia and Richards as a starting point is pretty stout. There will be an interesting battle to see who fills out the remaining spot between Cabrera who has been really impressive in his small sample with the team, Pearson and Jackson. It appears as though there will be a tough decision on which guy is the odd man out when it's all said and done.
  17. Yeah both of these guys likely max out as 5th starter/innings eater types, but each of them may have been legitimate depth options as soon as next season. Given how the team had all of the older depth options flame out this season hopefully the rotation depth will be more successfully addressed next offseason.
  18. Damn that's a really steep price. Definitely needed another leverage arm with Romano on the shelf right now so good on Atkins for pulling the trigger.
  19. Alejandro Kirk appears to be serving up a giant steaming cup of shut the f*** up to all of the filthy fat shamers on this board. You guys should be ashamed of yourself.
  20. I think Chad Green is likely to be the late inning shutdown guy once he is ready to be activated.
  21. Umm have you not seen how poorly Romano has performed in non save situations? It might not be the best move in the world to move him out of a role where he has really excelled.
  22. It's far from dumb to run a 6 man rotation for a few weeks where the team has no days off. The Jays ran with a 4 man rotation for an extended period of time and are extremely fortunate that they escaped with all of the starters in good health afterwards. Bassitt in particular has been battling some minor issues this season directly as a result of this, and the remaining rotation members had to completely alter their maintenance routines in order for the team to survive this stretch. Gausman was on track for a career high in innings, and had his own minor injury scare heading into the all star break. The top 3 of the rotation has pitched a ton of innings this season, and the ability to back off of a bit during a tough stretch of games will allow these starters to get a little more rest and recovery time heading into the stretch run of the season. It's a good thing they will be able to take the foot off of the gas a little bit for a few weeks given how hard the top 3 has been pushed this season.
  23. Come on man, even you are better than this. Who gives a f*** whether Kikuchi was bad last year. Your argument is similar to saying Manoah should be kept in games longer because he was good last year instead of taking into account how he is actually performing this season. Kikuchi is a much better pitcher this season than he was a year ago. His stuff is better and his command is much better. His numbers third time through the order this season are much improved vs over his career as well. When he's dealing against a weak lineup, has ace like stuff on the night, is commanding his pitches effectively with minimal mistakes, accumulating whiffs, has shown no sign of fatigue either with regards to stuff or command, pulling him in the 70 pitch range is an extreme example of over managing. The Mariners did not look dangerous against him the entire game, and most of their baserunners up to that point were softly hit infield singles.
  24. This game outlines how Mitch White needs to be gone as soon as Chad Green is ready if not sooner. If management doesn't trust White to get 3 outs with a 4 run lead, Swanson running on fumes and everyone else unavailable White is literally useless to the team.
  25. There's no guarantee Scherzer would even be a pitcher you wasn't starting in the post season based on his performance this season. The worst case scenario would be Scherzer suffering injury and missing most of the remainder of the season and getting no return on the investment.
