  1. Sorry but aren't you essentially an oompa loompa who lost his green hair?
  2. Is it maybe that Renfroe still has more stink of previous failure on him?
  3. They've been linked to Willson Contreras, at least speculatively. I wonder if that means they have designs on using Varsho elsewhere on the diamond and at DH. I can't believe there's any notion of moving Kirk, f*** that. He's an absolute treasure and needs to be protected from you savages. Nothing against Jansen but I'd trade him to connor to be his next wife if it meant the Jays keep Kirk.
  4. How does Barger compare with Biggio as a prospect? Somewhat similar pre MLB profile?
  5. I'd assume Thomas is probably far more difficult to obtain, either more costly or possibly just not available. Acquiring a cheap controllable guy like McCarthy pairs nicely with signing a wild card like Bellinger in my opinion. You pencil in the latter to start and the former as an improvement to our former bench OFs. If you get to a certain point in the year and it turns out Bellinger continues to be fried, you have a more than adequate stop gap starter already in place.
  6. The tournament opens today with host Qatar taking on Ecuador in the lone match
  7. 13M base, 16M club option or 2M buyout. 15M guarantee seems steep but he's not so very far removed from being worth more than double that per year.
  8. Barger is a middle of diamond athlete with a bat that could knock down the door for a big league spot this season. I wonder if he could adjust to play some CF/OF
  9. I wonder if he'd do a one year + club option/buyout type deal. A little more upside for the team if he turns it around and a larger guarantee for him if he's fried.
  10. Yeah at least from this distance it looks like the exact font or something too close to the Marlins
  11. The easy/lazy way to determine potential suitors for a catcher trade, is to look at the list of teams rumored/expected to be a fit for Willson Contreras. MLBTR has those as Red Sox, Diamondbacks, Rockies, Astros, Cardinals, Giants, Yankees, Twins, Marlins and Rays. Cancel out the Yanks and BoSox because f*** those guys, but among the other eight teams lies probably our best fit(s).
  12. Let me be the first to say, George Springer might play RF in 2023
  13. He very well may settle in as a very good 4th OF. Which barring a bonafide starting CF, would still be a very nice addition for this team.
  14. I don't see the logic for the M's at all, unless they have zero confidence they could land a similar bat in free agency for comparable money. I guess maybe they felt they wouldn't get a better bat without having to make a long term commitment? Giving up cost controlled assets, including one that excelled at the MLB level this past season - seems short sighted at this point of free agency. I love Teo and will miss him, but it's pretty easy to see why this was an astute asset management move for the Jays. They can likely easily pivot and use the salary savings towards another OF in free agency and wind up with a net positive this year, plus the years of control on these arms. On a one year deal, I'd gladly take a shot on a left handed hitter like Brantley or Conforto. Benintendi isn't the most sexy option, but he provide some value with the bat and GG corner defense. On a three year deal or so, I could get behind it. For a cost controlled option, a little off the radar but I like Jake McCarthy from Arizona. He's a bit blocked there by Carroll but has shown he can hit from the left side. Tremendous value on the basepaths. Not sure what to make of the defense as it appears he faired very well in CF but poorly in the corners in a larger sample. Controlled all the way through 2029.
  15. Big raise for Perez, from 4M.

If they left the west coast and headed right, they're just gonna end up down south.

It all starts with the parents. They have been trying to downplay and sweep it under the rug since day one. I recall reading the police report back when the story first broke a couple years ago. The Millers were essentially refusing to cooperate, the Dad tried to chalk it up as general horseplay aka boys being boys. Of course a kid is never going to properly comprehend his actions or feel remorse, if mom and dad are patting him on the back telling him it wasn't that bad. That attitude is what made almost every team put him on their do not draft list, more so than the incident itself. If he was truly ashamed, and had made efforts to make amends because it's the right thing to do - this story would essentially be over by now, in terms of having been able to move on with his career. But the prevailing take away from teams was that he says what he thinks he needs to say in order to minimize and try to get past it for his own benefit. The family to this day, still just aren't getting it. Dad on twitter liking and retweeting comments that refer the incident being exaggerated. Sister tweeting videos of the victim attempting to sway public opinion of his character.

Yeah he doesn't need to be dropping the gloves, or at least not with any frequency. But he can at least show that he gives a f*** about his teammates and has a bit of fire in his belly. That said, almost every other superstar in the game (Crosby, Ovechkin, McDavid, MacKinnon) has dropped the flippers at least once, even just to show the rest of the league that they are not going to be picked on and to show their teammates they have their backs

Watching a sport that is literally known for this stuff and then complaining about it, is complete Karen behavior. Not to mention the fact that these scrums absolutely happen in football and even baseball for that matter. Besides, there are universal concepts at play here. I don't care if it's professional hockey players or school children on the playground. If you start an altercation, have your friends all pile in to have your back, and then stand there while they are out numbered - you are a coward. You know damn well that it's complete bitch boy move by Matthews. Hockey has provided more than enough actual opportunities to complain about toxic hockey culture, no need to go reaching.

Being a non fighter is not the same as having no fight. The body language here is pretty damn telling. Everyone else on the ice is desperately moving about trying to defend their teammates, and he's just standing there like he's afraid to chip a nail. You don't have to drop the gloves and start throwing haymakers but at least grab someone and even out the numbers. Maybe he'll mature out of it but he really just seems like too much of a diva to ever be the emotional leader of winning team.
