Considering what Vegas gave up to get Tatar, this seems like an overly large investment in Pacioretty. He either costs them a big extension well into his 30s or walks after the year, doesn't seem like a smart move.

We need steady innings for the next couple years no matter what, and the money is there to spend right now. I don't see any reason to avoid any opportunity to add a durable, quality veteran on a reasonable deal.
Need to have some quality and consistency on the field regardless of whether we are truly competing in the next couple seasons.
Danny Duffy shut down for the year, KC likely roll with a six man rotation staffed with the following household names: Junis, Keller, Fillmyer, Lopez, Skoglund and Sparkman.
Then again, name value has probably been Duffy's strong suit.
I think a return sometime in May would be my optimistic/uneducated projection. That's a full 12 months of recovery and then 8+ weeks of rehab/extended ST, which sounds about right to me barring any setbacks.
Obviously no two recoveries are exactly alike, but I believe I read that the D'Backs were hopefully Taijuan would be back in their rotation within about 13 months of his TJ in late April.
I make a lot of trades.
Also I had a fun idea last night for a combined hockey + baseball dynasty league. It would run all year round with the championship being won at the end of the baseball season, right around the same time the new hockey season gets underway. Added difficulty in trying to get two teams, from two different sports contending at the same time to win one combined league title.
