  1. Tbf the Red Sox could have the hitting to get to a .500 record and a likely playoff spot, but yeah I wouldn't think they'd be odds on at all. IMO both them and us should be more around 50/50 making it.
  2. Due to my irrational hatred of Brandon Drury, I've been trying to work out how he may be excluded from the opening 30 man squad now that Espinal is rumoured to be making the team. I reckon if we go with 15 (or 16) hitters, he makes it, but if we want an extra pitcher and only have 14 then the bench would have an extra outfielder instead: McGuire, Fisher (assuming Hernandez starts), Espinal, Panik, Alford/Davis. Either way when the rosters are reduced in 2 weeks, we won't be carrying Drury, Espinal and Panik at that point.
  3. It's a few too many for a normal season, but for this season it's the right thing to do. Hopefully after the new CBA there's a happy medium of 12-14 teams including wildcards.
  4. That doesn't quite work, as you'd have 5 teams trying to get to 1 (top 4 + the other team). Could have top 3 or division winners though.
  5. Playoffs may be played in a bubble, especially if there's lots of covid related disruption in the regular season.
  6. Wouldn’t say no to minor league offer to Cecil, but good chance his career is done now.
  7. Maybe sharing with another AL East team would work. Can’t really say we won’t let you in, without banning all away teams as well.
  8. Does that mean the Pirates can't play there as well? Or is it because we'd be playing games against the Florida based Rays?
  9. With Covid and the new CBA on the horizon now's the time to try to extend stars. Why take the risk of being a free agent in a potentially depressed market?
  10. He was well below even that last year though, so it seems unlikely he'll ever significantly exceed the contract's value - underlining Glory's main point that the contract was both unnecessary and has no trade value. Luckily if Grichuk continues to suck, either using him off the bench or simply waiving him once we've got a few decent outfielders, isn't a franchise crippling move.
  11. Plan F play all "home" games as an away team and have a base for off days at any available site that has the required facilities. Plan G opt out of the season and secure the 1st pick!
  12. This article sums up the thinking in the decision: "The absurdly divergent, often negligent approach to COVID-19 in the United States — where containment efforts are an abject failure rooted in stubborn, intentional ignorance — stands in sharp contrast to the calculated caution employed by the federal government here. The Blue Jays’ schedule includes three trips to the outbreak epicenter of Florida, including next week to open the season in St. Petersburg against the Tampa Bay Rays, as well as one to the hotspot of Georgia for a series against the Atlanta Braves. The Rays and Miami Marlins each make one visit to Toronto, while the other teams they’d be hosting will have also visited places where cases are spiking. So even with Major League Baseball’s protocol featuring tests every other day, even with an additional test for everyone in Toronto – nasal swab instead of the less intrusive saliva to increase accuracy – the frequent border crossings were an impossible risk variable to resolve. Hence, the travel element avoided by the NHL and NBA with their bubble-protocols — but that MLB chose to forge ahead with — ultimately sunk the Blue Jays’ endeavour. Marco Mendicino, the Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, said in a statement Saturday that “based on the best-available public health advice, we have concluded the cross-border travel required for MLB regular season play would not adequately protect Canadians’ health and safety.” “Of particular concern,” he added, is that “the Toronto Blue Jays would be required to play in locations where the risk of virus transmission remains high.” In saying as much, Mendicino not only highlighted the dissonant paths taken by Canada and the United States in regards to the coronavirus, but also implied that the MLB plan isn’t foolproof enough to avoid the players acting as vectors for the disease."
  13. Must just be because that clip is recorded on a phone. It's not as good as the real thing but it's much better than that:
  14. Are you joking? You can’t recognise the differences between Latin based languages and Asian languages? You’ve never noticed how similar so many words are?
