  1. Well it’s not like everyone’s position is secure, apart from Grichuk (and that’s only because of his contract). Gurriel could still become more of a utility player if he’s needed in the infield. Hernandez is still an experiment at CF and could see quite a bit of time at DH if we don’t replace Smoak with a vet. Fisher has potential, but hasn’t done anything yet. With next year’s new rules - 26 man and 3 batter minimum for pitchers - we may even see us carry 5 outfielders (if Gurriel and Hernandez aren’t full time OF) for some of the season if we want a look at Alford or another acquisition.
  2. Yeah, I’d like to replace my prediction of Burnley going down with Brighton!
  3. I forgot about how bad Brighton are! So many Championship level teams this year.
  4. Bold. Very bold! 1. Manchester City 2. Liverpool 3. Tottenham 4. Chelsea 5. Arsenal 6. Wolves Relegation - Norwich, Southampton, and Burnley.
  5. I get what you're saying but the day we sign Chris Davis is the day the fans descend on the Rogers Centre and burn it to the ground.
  6. Canada is a factor for many American players whether you like it or not. Without more money or a winning team (which we don't have yet) most are going to pick an American team.
  7. This made me look up Cecil's stats for this year. Oof.
  8. Sorry mate but this is an even worse example of rose tinted nostalgia than your theory that umpires used to be better back in the day. The majority of adverts have always been s***.
  9. The most relevant one is where he says we won't spend big until we are already 87-90 wins. Cheap vets this offseason it is then.
  10. Just the billion pounds spent by English clubs this transfer window.............
  11. Yeah if Atkins just signs a few cheap vets and we're not even linked to Cole that'd be deflating. I'm mean I don't think we have a realistic chance of getting him but if you can't be optimistic about the sports teams that you follow then sports are pretty pointless haha.
  12. How much of a premium would we have to pay Cole for him to come here and not one of the traditionally biggest payroll teams or another team with lots of payroll space? We can't offer a winning team (yet), and we aren't in America (a factor for a lot of American players). Are we really going to offer more money (possibly having to be significantly more to make the difference) than anyone else? I can't see it, amazing as it would be. Would completely transform the narrative with the front office, especially if we finish the season relatively strongly with our young batting. He's also from California, I think he's more likely to sign for the Padres or Angels (if they can afford him) if it's not the Yankees, Dodgers etc.
  13. This is a weird article: ”Over an extended period, the consistently poor messaging (from the front office) seems disingenuous, allowing for grey areas in the public’s mind and dumb narratives to develop and persist, aided by zingers from acid-tongued columnists.”
  14. Fisher has never done anything at MLB level. The last time Sanchez was injury free all year he won the ERA title.
  15. That's also the reason why we won't be signing him (even though we have the payroll space if Shatkins wanted to).
  16. TBF baseball hasn’t made as many advancements as other sports that dedicate more time to training and less to games, but the answer is no they don’t. Advancements in sports science have vastly changed training and preparation in all sports. The players in all sports are on average faster, fitter, and more consistent. There’s less room for taking a day off, or being at less than your best, both because of the higher standards and the increased exposure (i.e. every moment of every game is televised).
  17. I’m not really convinced that two injured starters, a collection of unproven young pitchers and whatever we add in free agency is even close to a start to a solid rotation. I’d be (pleasantly) surprised if Atkins was aggressive in free agency for pitchers. Unfortunately I think we’re in for another year of cheap vet acquisitions while we sift through the Merryweathers, Kays, Waguespacks etc to see who will stick in the rotation.
  18. BLUE JAYS Bo Bichette: "BO" Cavan Biggio: "BIGGY" Buddy Boshers: "BUDDY" Brandon Drury: "B DRU" Derek Fisher: "FISHER" Wilmer Font: "FONKY" Freddy Galvis: "TOCO" Sam Gaviglio: "SAMMY G" Ken Giles: "100 MILES GILES" Randal Grichuk: "GRICH" Lourdes Gurriel Jr.: "#PIÑAPOWER JR." Vladimir Guerrero Jr.: "EL K" Teoscar Hernandez: "MR. SEEDS" Danny Jansen: "JANO" Derek Law: "LAWDOG" Tim Mayza: "MAYZ" Reese McGuire: "PIECES" Thomas Pannone: "LIL G" Sean Reid-Foley: "SR-F" Justin Shafer: "SHAF" Justin Smoak: "MOAKEY" Brock Stewart: "BEEF STEW" Trent Thornton: "BUTTERS" Jacob Waguespack: "WAGUESPACK"
  19. For the Jays I like Mr Seeds for Teoscar and Butters for Thornton. Derek Fisher can f*** off if his pick of ‘Fisher’ is for old school reasons, haha.
  20. That is optimistic, there’s a reason Vlad was considered one of the most hyped prospects ever. Still if either come close to that we’ll be in a great position! FWIW 4 of the top 10 WAR leaders last year were 3B and that doesn’t even include Donaldson, Bryant or Arenado.
  21. Bo starting his career on fire, pretty much like we though Vlad would. Bo is already worth more WAR! Those two are going to be epic for us next year after going through the usual rookie up and downs.
  22. Group A = candidates to be cut from the Rays’ 40 man, group B = lottery tickets in short season ball?
  23. You’d also think that having a new team (and potentially a new stadium) would give a bump to the attendance in Montreal if/when the Rays are relocated.
