  1. Yeah I'm sure we'll be signing Cole, Strasburg and Rendon any time now haha.
  2. Prospect wise Anderson has only cost us Chad Spanberger, who is nothing, so this helps set the (expected) tone for this offseason. Low key, low risk moves. Pretty boring!
  3. Not even that cheap he’ll be one of the highest paid players now:
  4. Wow I’m really surprised at that. One very bad result and he’s out. Ruthless!
  5. That doesn’t make much sense. In total Kay, Merryweather, and Borucki have appeared in 22 MLB games and we don’t know what the return from Giles is yet. Right now the core isn’t good enough for us to make the playoffs in 2020 for 3 main reasons. 1. Outside the core, our position players are shite. 2. Our starting pitching is shite. 3. The majority of the core is mainly potential. In 2020 if some of them don’t take the next step forward, or even take a step back (e.g. Bo has a sophomore slump / Gurriel reverts to a utility player) then the core isn’t even that good right now. That’s a lot of gaps to fill from both inside and outside the organisation. It’s not realistic to think this front office will spend the hundreds of millions of dollars that’d be required right now to try to fix it all at once. Though I hope we acquire more than last year’s reclamation and low risk vets, I'm realistic enough not to expect us to be major players on the free agent market this offseason.
  6. Depends what you mean by impact. If you mean all star caliber then possibly no one. But Kay, Merryweather and Borucki are all going to get a shot in the rotation in 2020, and importantly the Giles trade has a good chance of bringing in at least one player who is ready to be given a chance at MLB level. If the majority of the core continues to improve, and we manage to rebuild the rotation and the outfield then with a few decent additions we could be good as early as 2021.
  7. I know what you mean but technically it's the second year in a row it's happened after Steve Pearce last season!
  8. Absolutely the last thing we need is another outfielder who is average with the bat (at best, in 2018 he was appalling) without being a defensive star. Agree with your general point though.
  9. You won’t find a single fan who doesn’t want to move into “the next gear”. What you will find is some fans deluding themselves that the next gear is the top gear.
  10. Unlikely IMO. We’d just have loads of threads with a few comments in each. We don’t have a big enough community of posters right now to sustain a reddit style new thread for every conversation.
  11. I have some bad news for you.....
  12. Yeah and they are also freeing up about $35m from free agents. I’m not sure that they’ll offer enough to get Cole (they still have a high payroll and some of those free agents need to be replaced), but wouldn’t be surprised to see them get Strasburg if he opts out.
  13. Yes it counts as it’s guaranteed money, but I’m not sure if it’s averaged out over the length of the contract for luxury tax purposes (just like a signing bonus) or they take the hit next year.
  14. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of offers EE gets.
  15. Nats losing their franchise player in the off-season, getting in as a wildcard then beating both the best teams in the NL and AL on their way to the title is going to go down as one of the all time great playoff stories!
  16. So you must agree that Tampa doesn't "deserve" a team either right?
  17. Probably not that much as Cleveland will be looking to cut payroll again. Doesn't matter though, with just 2 years of control there is no chance we give up any prospects for him.
  18. Sure, and there are a few teams (like the Rays) that will never draw fans too. Those teams are rare exceptions though.
  19. Haha, you say that like it's unusual. Most people don't want to regularly watch s*** teams in any sport.
  20. Not per year no, but certainly more than $16m!
  21. Operating income doesn't include taxes. Importantly though Rogers allocates significantly less than market value to the Jays for TV rights. If Rogers didn't own the team they'd have to pay much more. So you're right that it's not really accurate to just look at the high level figures and say the Jays are a loss maker for Rogers.
  22. hahahaha your analysis should have said that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a more realistic destination
  23. The holders don't automatically qualify and we went out in the euro group stage last year.
