  1. With the off days, I was hoping he would be skipped in the rotation. I only mentioned it because someone posted an article that the Blue Jays were interested in starting pitching, but obviously not that much if Stroman is being used again instead of another option like Hutchison. With Smoak being resigned, I was hoping he wasn't going to become the regular first baseman when the team is playing against a national league opponent.
  2. Take the next 2 in Phoenix and call it a mini winning road trip.
  3. Stroman is scheduled to pitch again in Phoenix against the Diamondbacks and I wonder who will be sitting without the DH. You would hope Edwin would start at 1st and Smoak would be sitting and then possibly come in as a pinch hitter late in the game and also take over defensively at 1st.
  4. The Stro "gum chewin" Show?
  5. I was just making a sarcastic response to the guy who said that teams play differently based on who's broadcasting them. I wish mlb had an option to completely turn off the broadcasting and just have the sounds of the game with the graphics on the screen, just like they do with the condensed games.
  6. I like the Giants crew of Kuiper, Krukow, and Jon Miller. Kay sounds like a very fair announcer and not as much of a homer as you would think a new york announcer would be. Before the baseball package ever included sportsnet in the states, every blue jays game was televised on the other team's broadcast so i got used to hearing the yankees and red sox announcers frequently even though the teams would frequently beat up on Toronto. I always liked Jerry Remy's new england accent. Nomaw Gawciapawa!
  7. Thole got 2 more hits!!! His batting average is the same as Ryan Howard!!!😅😄😆
  8. I like Dan Shulman the best! And I think Buck Martinez sounds better as a colour commentator than a play by play man. It's funny you mention Devlin doing basketball primarily since Gary Thorne has been broadcasting the Orioles for awhile and he used to be the voice of American hockey. And Howie Rose still splits time with both the Mets and Islanders and I think both announcers sound good doing both sports. They're the Bo Jackson's of play by play!
  9. Watching the Padres game the other day, I noticed the catcher position was hitting leadoff, Derek Norris, which I remember seeing only 1 other time when Jason Kendall would lead off for the Pirates. Can anyone think of any other catchers who have hit first in the batting order?
  10. The only time a Blue Jays player hit 4 home runs, Rod Black was doing play by play, so maybe Rogers should hire him back!!!
  11. I remember the GNR riot here in the st louis area back in 1991 when axl jumped into the crowd to go after a guy who wouldn't put his camera away during the middle of their concert. Then he stormed off stage instead of finishing the rest of their songs, and the crowd became mayhem.
  12. I remember the original rbi baseball game from Nintendo that came out around 1987/88. They only had the teams that were in the playoffs in 86 and 87 but the American League team had a few good jays players. George Bell was one of the big home run guys and Jimmy key was one of the better pitchers. Vince Coleman from the Cardinals was impossible to throw out on any ground ball or steal attempt.
  13. At least they have another game in less than 12 hours.
  14. You know we're fiending for baseball when I ask something stupid like this: Over the years, there has been some pretty cool walk-up music for several Jays players. I never was much of a fan of hometown STL Nelly, but hearing Delgado come up to bat in a crucial situation to "Hot in Herre" seemed to intensify the moment. I'm not going to list all of my favourite ones, but a few from the catcher position I enjoyed were Darrin Fletcher "Scar Tissue" by RHCP, Gregg Zaun "Limelight" by Rush, and Tom Wilson "Mother" by Danzig. Also, it was funny hearing T.I./Rihanna "Live Your Life" before Vernon Wells came up to bat to inevitability pop up or chop the ball to the left side of the infield for a predictable out! If YOU were an mlb player and got to choose just ONE walk-up song, what would it be? I would pick the beginning to "Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult.
  15. At least the Padres were nice enough to let him pitch in the All Star Game in San Diego (as a Padre) before shipping him off to a contender.
  16. This may not be relevant, but does anyone know the Blue Jays record in the first half when they wore the road grey uniforms versus the blue alternates when they were the visiting team? I read somewhere last year that the Blue Jays, I believe, wore their traditional road grey uniforms the least out of all mlb teams the few prior seasons. Apparently, the pitchers choose the uniforms for the game they're starting unless the home team is wearing something of a similar colour? Is that correct? Since last season, after the trade deadline, I remember the Jays wearing their road greys only ONCE, and that includes playoffs, and that was a game in Tampa where the Rays were wearing their blue alternates, so the Jays were "stuck" wearing their road greys that one game. So I believe David Price only wore the road greys that ONE game while he was in the dugout (he wasn't pitching that day). I've noticed Estrada and Happ choose the blue jerseys fairly often when they pitch, regardless if they're at home or on the road. Personally, I don't like alternative uniforms or hats. You should wear your road jersey on the road and the home jersey at home, just like the Yankees do. The player who ALWAYS wore the blue alternate jersey when he pitched was Matt Clement when he was with the Cubs. It drove me and my brother crazy!!! EVERY game, he would be wearing the blue Cubs jersey on the mound! I actually googled it and found an article where he mentioned that he likes how that jersey felt on his body versus the other ones. I never saw him in the Cubs road greys on the mound, and also the home pinstripe whites, but supposedly he was "forced" to wear the home whites during a Cubs home opener one year when he was starting. Just found that interesting.
  17. I still don't understand the big deal about Bautista pimping his home run that was a potential series winner for a team in a 22 year playoff drought. It would have been different if the Blue Jays were already leading 10-0 when he hit the home run since that would just be bad edicate to rub it in to an opponent when you're already beating them into the ground. But, that gave the Jays a lead after the events of the prior inning. It was a very close, emotional, and sea-saw series clinching game. I know as a Jays fan since 1999, I enjoyed it all the way down here in bumble f*** Missouri!!! Speaking of which, remember Albert Pujols staring down his home run against Brad Lidge of the Astros in the 2005 NLCS when he hit a come from behind home run over the railroad tracks at Minute Maid Park to keep the Cardinals alive in the series? Home run celebrations happen in the playoffs when it's a big moment, Texas is still butt hurt about arguably the most famous choke job (2011) in baseball history!!! "We will see you...tomorrow night!!"
  18. Brandon Moss has hit some long home runs at Busch Stadium this season and he occasionally fills in out in right field and first base. He's a good replacement when Matt Adams is slumping or injured or when the Cardinals want a left-handed bat in the lineup instead of Stephen Piscotty.
  19. I remember Doug Mirabelli being Tim Wakefield's personal catcher and how much of a downgrade was he to Jason Varitek?
  20. I haven't been to Toronto in 12 years so sometimes I have a tough time following when someone mentions something in the city, like a restaurant or a street, or anything else that a person who's not familiar with the GTA on a regular basis wouldn't know off the top of their head. Heck, it's been so long ago that I've stepped foot in the 416 that the Leafs actually won a playoff series!!! It seems like a different lifetime that I watched Joe Nieuwendyk hang Patrick Lalime out to dry in game 7 at a bar at York University!
  21. Looked like Edwin kept his arms behind his back to do his best not to touch the umpire anymore than he already did.
  22. Ichiro has had close to 3,000 well placed singles and he's a future hall of famer.
  23. Maybe the Indians should bring back 10 cent beer night to boost attendance!!
  24. Hopefully by the end of the weekend, the Blue Jays front office will have worked out a deal with their Cleveland buddies to keep some of the Indians north of the border when they leave town on Sunday!! f***in LeBron James, I blame this all on him!! He's given the players for all the teams in The Mistake By The Lake too much confidence and a winning attitude now!!
  25. I'd be happy with a 6-5 record on this next home stand, preferably 7-4, but Cleveland is obviously hot and Kansas City and Detroit have played better lately. Doesn't look like Ventura is going to pitch in the series against the Blue Jays as he just pitched Tuesday and got lit up against the Cardinals. He's scheduled to pitch in Philadelphia prior to Toronto so hopefully he gets beaned and booed in the unfriendly confines of a national league park!
