I agree.
When you think back to the decades of the past you always think about the dynasties during that decade. Having 10 different teams win in a decade is not something that I find particularly interesting. I like having a team will multiple championships over a short period of time...you don't appreciate it at the time, but looking back, it's something that I respect and remember with fondness.
Oh I'm not saying there's a need, that it should, or would ever happen. My point is merely that if owners really care that much about fairness and controlling cost (i.e. Draft Cap) then go after the big ticket item. Putting a cap on the draft does absolutely nothing. It's not like we ever saw teams spending $20-30M in a draft.
Would the playoffs had been made without the deals? And if not, was it still worth it even with no World Series. I guess that's the question we'll never know the answer to.
Vernon Wells and Michael Young were both on the 1998 Hagerstown team. I know Young wasn't really a top tier prospect, and neither put up earth shattering numbers that season, but in retrospect, then both had damn good ML careers.
