What's funny about this series is that Montreal fans have shown how backwards they are.
Leafs winning or losing does nothing to either hurt or harm Montreal's team.
Montreal owns Florida's 1st round pick in 2023.
Florida's place in the playoffs directly impacts where that pick will end up.
Them beating the Leafs hurts Montreal's team as it directly impacts the value of one of their assets.
Habs fans still cheer against the Leafs, because they hate the Leafs more than they love the Habs. I get cheering against your rivals...but even when it's actually detrimental to your own team?? Leafs will always be in the heads of Habs fans.
If the roles were reversed, I'd want that pick to be as high as possible. I want the best chance possible for my team to draft a piece that could be a valuable core piece of my team for years to come, and hopefully a piece that is part of a championship squad. And before I hear the, 'the draft is a crapshoot' argument...There's a reason 1st rounders make it, and are typically stars way way more often and frequently than 7th rounders. The earlier you pick, the greater likelihood of getting a player that will become something significant. That's just common sense. I would want every advantage I could possibly get when rebuilding my team, even it's it's only picking 5-10 spots earlier. That's not an insignificant thing in the 1st round.
As for being down 2-0? I'm so used to this kinda thing I'm numb to it...I just thought the Habs angle was amusing.
