  1. But you're making it sound like Shapiro has a history of going big. Has he ever gone big? Maybe I'm forgetting something, but he was never really in a position to do that in Cleveland...so why do we just assume that he'll do it in Toronto? Fans questioning Rogers commitment and willingness to spend big isn't a new thing. Why are we just assuming that it's gonna happen with Shapiro. Until it actually happens, I'm going to remain skeptical. Hopefully we see some significant talent added when the time is right, but I'm not going to just assume that it's gonna happen.
  2. I don't think it's ever been about not having room or the cash for it...they just don't seem to have the appetite to get into those $100M+ contracts. They did it once with Vernon, he didn't perform...AA was able to move him...but they haven't even really seriously sniffed around that kind of money since. Rogers just seems completely petrified about taking any sort of meaningful risk with respect to big contracts.

We are going to miss the playoffs. Burn the boats. Fire Babcock. Trade everyone.
  6. There are very few people on this planet that I actively root for their failure. Stroman is one of those few.
  7. Completely irrelevant in today's climate. Common sense no longer exists.
  8. If Taubman could throw 99 he'd still be an Astro.

But he's a champ now. Surely that has to make a difference.

  12. Ah. I misunderstood your question. I thought you meant if the teams had a say in what level gets dropped, not what city gets dropped. That I don't know about. Guess it would depend on legalities and lengths of existing contracts with the cities. No idea how long they typically sign with a city for.
  13. They may allow a voting process to come to some consensus, but I can't see them allowing each organization to select which affiliate they want to drop. That would completely screw things up if you suddenly have a league with only 5 teams left. I would think it has to be the same across the board
  14. You may have abandoned reality... Doesn't mean the rest of us should.
  15. Are you saying the Yankees and the Royals both have a 3.333% chance of signing Garrett Cole? Please tell me that isn't the math you're using. we all know there are about 10 teams or so that so the vast majority of the FA signings. Right now, that ain't the Jays. Be it Rogers' risk averse mentality, the fact that we're in Canada, or the fact that the Jays are a bottom dweller right now, these are all factors...big factors. Going after Cole would be great, but unless it's a ridiculous offer, it's just going to be leverage for his camp at this point. That may change in the future...but not today.
  16. I'm not saying we shouldn't try. My point is that this organization isn't at the point where high end guys actually would consider actually signing here yet...and it is frustrating.
  17. If it's only 1 level that they're cutting, that could work. My guess is it would likely be the Bluefield level.

Boxy forgot, so I'll step up for him. Go Leaves Go!
  19. Are they gonna cut the draft in half? If teams are currently adding 30-35 players every draft, and 30-50 IFA signings, that has to get slashed in half if they're getting rid of that many teams. Realistically, no other professional sport has the kind of minor league setup that baseball does. From a business standpoint, it's probably the right move.
  20. (Jays make strong offer to all three) "Thank you very much for the interest in our clients and your generous offers" (Players and agents use these offers as leverage to get a better deal where they really want to go). Rinse. Repeat.

That's better. I thought you were going to go with 'you should be used to waiting seeing as the Leafs haven't won in over 50 years' or something along those lines, but that'll suffice.
