Why do managers wear uniforms? All other sports they wear a suit and tie, expect football... But still not a uniform. Every sport has some sort of tradition that doesn't really make sense.
Seems pretty clear.
What would disappoint you more...the Jays not even making a serious attempt at Cole....OR....them not actually signing him?
Clearly it would be the not trying. The pursuit of Cole is entirely in the Jays control. Whether he signs is in Cole's hands. Can't get mad at the Jays if they go balls deep with an offer and Cole decides he wants to go elsewhere.
He really can't say too much at all. Not sure what kind of apology people are looking for considering the legal aspect of this that's ongoing.
"I'M SO SORRY. YES. I DID IT ALL."
Clemens was perceived to be past his prime at the time, and was signed to one of the richest deals in baseball iirc. I also think this was before Rogers took over.
Look. It could happen. Anything is theoretically possible. I just don't see it. As least not this offseason. Maybe when they're serious contenders again.
It's a legitimate question. I think it's way too early to make wholesale changes as their core is mostly under 25, but yes, if they don't show some growth soon, they do need to consider moving a key piece out and bringing in some fresh blood. But even before that happens, I think they'd axe Babcock and give another Head Coach a shot with this group first.
I'm a fan of tanking, but I understand that it's different in baseball. That said, when there's really nothing left to play for (and there hasn't been for awhile), locking up a higher pick and more pool money can only help. What does winning 8 of your last 10 really do at this point in the season? Lock up #5 and give the scouts something juicy to work with.
Like looking at Wins-Losses for a pitcher. It's a team stat.
It's like saying Kershaw sucks cause he can't get it done in the playoffs.
The whole team needs to show up and do their part. Leafs, as a whole, haven't been good enough in the past couple of Game 7s.
The usual suspects...
Giants, Braves, Tigers have money but no one is going there, Nationals, Yankees, Red Sox, Cardinals, Twins have money but won't spend it, Dodgers, Rangers, Angels, Cubs, Orioles have money but LOL, Astros, A's won't spend,
Very few. But I don't see them wanting to overpay. I feel that the Vernon Wells extension really left a bad taste in their mouth and they haven't been gung ho about getting into 9 digit deals again. Can I back that up? Not with anything concrete other than they haven't done it since. I don't think that's by accident.
Remember, Rogers isn't really doing that well right now. Look at how they're canning all their high paid TV/radio personalities. That NHL deal has been a complete bomb. I don't know how much that impacts future payroll, but it is a consideration.
Well of course. Most everything that's written here is someone's opinion. That's why I said let's wait it out. That way, we can all see, without a doubt, that your opinion was wrong.
And like I said, what's your definition of 'in on'. Making a phonecall? Fine. Every team in the league will be 'in on' Cole. But I'm talking about a serious run at him. There will be no serious attempt there.
Because there are different reasons why you forge emotional connections with teams. Geographic proximity, so you're familiar with the team and organically get attached? Maybe you've moved and still cheer for the team from the city you started in. Family allegiances...your dad, grandad, cheered for Team X and you grew up with that being the team in your household. Lots of different reasons.
